Wow you are really trying to get a little sentimental with me here. I started racing at Monee when i was about 12 years old in 1993. May be off a year or so on the actual year. I raced there continually until I moved to the east coast in 2005. I had been racing a few years earlier but we didnt know anything about Roys track. So most of my child hood into becoming an adult I was there. To me Roy was a very soft spoken Man. But when he talked I listened. Just like a lot of people, it wasn't until I got older I wish I would have talked to him more about his story. One thing that i remember was wanting Roy to change his rule on battery MAH. We were losing to Chad Smith and others and the rule was 2000Mah max 6 cell. Mine were already about a year old and my dad came up with some money to get us a new pack. 2400Mah were the new thing and our local hobbyshop, Leisure Hours, didnt have any 2000's left. Next week i went to Roy and told him that and he gave me the "Too Bad Faron", that i can still hear to this day if i think about it! So the following week went back to race and I tried again. This time I got a couple of other guys to come with me. He said Fine, but. I thought o here we go. He then said with all of this extra capacity you "WILL" run 5 minute mains. I cannot emphasize the "Will" enough .We thought that was great and that was that. Later on after I moved out here to the east coast I raced a few Nitro Tour races in Pennsylvania. I remember hearing the complaints about the 5 minute mains and like the story goes about Craig Frase starting the tour and and Monee being his home track I think I had something to do with that. Only to laugh how Roy would have handled that.
