I recently got a used but very nice Enforcer 7 DD but it is the end of our outdoor season here, and I am going to try some indoor grey carpet racing over the winter where should I start setup wise.

The car came with a 90 spur gear on it, but the kit comes with a 96 whats the difference? And how would you figure out what pinion to start with for a 17.5 motor ?

You will want to calculate the "rollout' which is how far the car travels for 1 revolution of the motor. I use an app on my phone called Nor-cal Hobbies Gears. Input the pinion and spur size along with the Transmission Ratio which is 1 for Direct Drive. Also input the tire diameter and it will give you a chart with the rollout and all of the nearby options. For 17.5 I would start with a 2.0" rollout. You may need to be lower or higher than that depending on the brand of motor and how much torque it has. Run for a couple minutes and see if it is getting hot over 150 deg F. If it is you may need a smaller pinion. If not hot keep going to a bigger pinion until it starts to get hot but not over 180 F after a 4 minute run. Running a smaller spur gear will have the same effect as a bigger pinion.

thanks I have that app and knew to use roll out not an actual gear ratio so to speak, was looking for a good start point, as I was told at one track to shoot for a 1.5 but was wondering if it was just for that track, and would think it would change depending on which track you were running. I'll shoot for 1.5-2.0 roll out to start and go from there depending on heat thanks a lot for your feedback.
