I spoke with Terry last night (as I do just about every day), and have the following info.

They are changing the layout of everything outdoors, because they have decided to not put in the paved road-course. The rain has been a pain (sorry, don't feel like re-typing the bad rhyme), but Terry and Jeff Curran (the contractor) feel confident that the task will be completed in time.

Practice will depend on the weather. If it stops raining everyday, things will get done a lot quicker, and there may be a practice race. Friday will be PHR's dirt oval night during the summer, so there will be racing the night before, at the very least.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll stop out tomorrow, since the Oswego races are going to get rained out AGAIN!!

Hey Jeff, I'm curious as to why they decided to not put in the road-course outdoors.

The road-course indoors did not have the turn-out that was anticipated. That having been said, the "pad" to put one in outdoors costs a lot of money. Terry is putting the dirt oval in with the idea that the road-course could be put in later. Being that this was only a "half-season" by the time the track opened, we'll see what happens this winter. Granted, you can't run gas indoors, so there are some additional attendees that would have to be accounted for. If the indoor turnout is better this winter, maybe Terry will consider it for next year.

I loved running their road coarse, I would have rather had it on a friday or saturday night. Three heats and a main are nice but, I don't like getting home at almost 9 o'clock on a sunday evening. That's why I didn't go every week, but I had an absolute blast while I was there!!! The atmosphere was great and the guys up there do a great job!!!- thanks guys!

Maybe, with all the guys buying tc3's at Walts for the late model (4wd) class, they will get a better turnout next winter!

Craig,
Thanks for the suggestion and the compliments.

Don't read into this too much guys, it was a decision we had to make. There were a couple of reasons we decided not to open the outdoor road track this year. The asphalt alone was going to cost us around $7000.00 to have it put in. The second reason was that there is really no racer base for on-road gas in the Rochester area. With just a handful of people comitted to running consistently it was very hard to justify spending that kind of money, when it could be put to good use elsewhere.

On another note, this change of plans will make the dirt oval track a lot better. It will be right up to the front of the building so the risk of a drainage problem wont exist. We will also be able to use some of the lighting that is already installed on the building. The additional lights and water will not have to be run 100+ feet out to where we originally had planned.

Currently we are having a lot of "cooperational" problems with Mother Nature.I assure you that we will be ready for the WDRA race in a few weeks.
The contractor we hired for the job is at the track just about every day, waiting for the ground to dry out enough to get started. Please stay tuned for updates as we get this thing rolling and I appreciate your questions and patience.

I'm disappointed that PHR has suspended its Road Course plans at this time. Trust me, I understand. But, remember the words of James Earl Jones in "Field of Dreams", "If you build it, they will come." Your not building it so, I'll go to TARMAC or Amherst or Irondiquoit when I want to race my NRS4/2. I don't have an "indoor car" and the nights they were run didn't work for me anyways. You have a great facility there and I want to race with you guys but, until I can change MY schedual,or I get an "indoor car", I'll have to miss out on racing at PHR.

I think Friday nights will be awesome for the outside oval. Hopefully it can be scheduled so that we can be out of there around 9:30 or 10 pm. PHR is an awesome facility, the staff very helpful, and I will support it by racing there whenever possible. Please consider a 4wd wedge class for regular shows.

I know this is a dumb question but how does one get to the Performance track from the southern tier? It's probably all ready posted here but I am too lazy to search, LOL.

It's located on Rt104 about 150 yards east of the intersection of rt104 & 350.

150 yards? It's a little further than that, Jimmy! LOL

Check out the map link at www.performancehobbiesraceway.com (http://www.performancehobbiesraceway.com) since it is all there Mike. It would be easier, and less of a chance of sending you off to "parts unknown" by mistake. :D

Junior,
We will run 4WD for sure if enough show up. Thanks for the good words we try as hard as we can to make the racing enjoyable.

Larry....didnt I see you with a dirt oval car at the livestock exchange?....LOL

That decision doesnt mean we are never going to have the asphalt track. It's just on "hold" for the moment

I've been able to get THAT night OFF early enough to race for years. And, if I ever get another FREE night to race and PH is running something I have to race, then I will be there to race.

I'm also glad that the asphalt track is on hold and not a DEAD DEAL. When it is built, I will be there.

Never meant to offend PH. In fact, I tell everyone that asks about a track in the area, about PH.

Any updates on the oval?

hey lugnut...I stopped by tuesday night and they had the base down ready for the clay. Just by the looks of the layout and the amount of banking they are running the track should be plenty fast. It'll be real close in size of livestock but with 8' of banking in the corners.

btw...if any would like to know whats up please feel free to call the track for an update and not listen to those who are clueless to whats happening there like what was being said last hight from a couple people.

142 tons of clay arrived yesterday and today....the rain prevented us from laying it down but it should be done by the end of the weekend. Aside from any weather related problems we will be ready hopefully by next Friday.
