WRDA SDS Race # 9, Race notes.

-Clear and sunny skies, along with comfortable temperatures greeted racers for the 9th stop on the '02 SDS. 23 Big Block drivers signed in, along with 7 in Modified.

-Afternoon track conditions did not play into the hands of the local drivers. The highest finishing Canadian was Darryl Nichols who pulled down a 10th place.

-Making their 1st career WDRA SDS starts were Nichols, Jim Rufiange, Bob Governor, Ron Prinzen and Mat Roosevelt. Rufiange faired the best w/ a 9th, just missing the A-main by one position.

-Dean Anderson joined Billy Kimpton and Paul Brauer as a 2-time SDS winner. They trail Terry Schmitt's all-time win leading tally of 4.

-Both of Anderson's wins have come at R/C World. He was the winner of the inaugural WDRA SDS event last year.

-I'll agree with other reports that Mike Alivero had the move of the year in the dash.

-Point leader Terry Schmitt's heat race luck went sour on Saturday, but he rebounded nicely by winning the B-main, and challenging for the A-main win, in what I understand was quite a battle. Terry was able to gain a couple of points on this rival for the championship, Dr. Dave Gruel.

-A 1st turn tangle involving Mike Alivero, Kevin Ridley and Paul Brauer was pretty much the only incident of the A-Main. Alivero and Ridley could not recover, while Brauer managed to stay on the lead lap for the entire distance, and after an entertaining mid-race battle with Jeff Rupert, scored a 5th.

-Billy Kimpton forfited his pole starting spot in the B-main, leaving early. Kimpton had been fast with his infamous "golf cart", which was sporting a blue rag top this week..which matched his "toothpaste"!

-The next race is in 2 weeks at Latham. Hope to see everyone there.

Entertaining? Like I said Saturday....

"You couldn't race clean with a washing machine and a gallon of Tide!"

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
