Computers Suck. I had an awesome post, then I lost it.
In summary.
Ok, I typically pretty quiet. Keep to myself and stay off the smack talk threads. According to Matt I get about 9 good funnies per year.
I was pretty brutal on Brandon. I had to apologize a couple of times during the weekend. Matt and I were pretty relentless with his first weekend out of the house in months. Especially to race.
Matt, you have done an incredible job pulling together an awesome series. It is obvious you are both obsessed/passionate about dirt oval racing. Your broad knowledge of suspension, motors, engines, how a race program should go and how to promote is incredible. You are definitely self taught and have picked up many good traits/skills. You are not loved by all, however, you are honest and don't hold back. I can only hope that all this hard work returns to you a great opportunity and everything you are hoping for. You have provided me with great success, knowledge and even frustration. Yet, I still believe in you and what you are working for. Good luck.
Billy. I can't lie. When Matt said asphalt, I was thinking, screw that, this will be a throw out weekend for me. Then I kept hearing great things about you and your facility. We showed up and of course the smack talk and stories started while we waited for you to open the gate. To view the facility from the outside, it was incredible. I can honestly say it is one of the greatest/cleanest/layed out facilities in the country (except, for the shade coverings that are about 5'9", middle of my forehead). Thanks again and I can't wait until the next time we make it to your facility.
This series has proven to be one of the funnest things I've done. All the years of helping out with IMCA modfieds, Sprint Cars, Pavement Latemodels, midgets, road racing motorcycles and running Supermoto. The friendships established make this racing the best.
DLM2 Tires. Yes, the first batch of DLM2s I had, reglued probably 6of 16 beads. The next batch, 4 of 16, this last batch 2 of 16. They are getting better. On asphalt, I think we were on same tires all day Friday? Or maybe we put 2 on the right side. Anyhow, 2-3 sets for an entire weekend, with basically unlimited practice on Friday, 2 quals and a 15 minute main (basically 3 more quals). How can you complain about that? For the open wheel (not going to mention $$) I trued about 180 tires before I left, only to retrue about another 140 tires because of different compounds diameters, etc. We have had issues with those tires. Those were from an established business as well. It can't always be perfect.
Mishaga, I'm mad at you. Why couldn't you of roasted your tires like Scooter. Kidding. But really, we had not only a fuel, but a tire strategy. How cool is that? We had tires in case we had to do a tire change. We all had to tame down our driving whether we were running a small 21, a big 21 or even a modded 28. That is racing. Not, ok, strap in for 4 minutes with something most guys in the country run for 45 minutes in offroad or onroad. Ok, can't make time, put in bigger tank. Seriously, can you break or take a nap during the main at BRC. haha
Dope. I hate doping tires, even simple green I don't like, cracks my skin and my knuckles start bleeding. It is hard enough let alone traveling somewhere and trying to figure out the dope of the week or track. At all three Open Wheels, I've gotten a sinus infection. I hear stories about the 'old days' when it was hand cleaner only. Do we really need to soften a 30? Why not just run a 25? Just stupid. Plus the harsh chemicals on your hands, maybe your eyes, face. Atleast handcleaner, soft, and can you believe it, clean hands. Wives/girlfriends are even happy about that.
When I go to a thread, post on a tracks site about information or threatening/promise to come race there. I try to start off with, information needed. The most often message I've seen in my PM box is, 'wtf', 'you know this isn't a DODC points race right', 'why', 'how'. As long as discover or US AIRWAYS MC have avail credit, I'm doing it. Shoe boxes with upto 2 hampsters. I'm there. I think the fact that the majority of dirt oval racers willing to fly to a race are running the BOW series is impressive. Of course, majority of racing is back east. Still. We are more than happy to have the East visit the West. I'd be willing to help with lodging, anything I can help with.
Why can't 8th scales come to an agreement. Why can't we just agree to run something that is available for the racer that is affordable and will provide good racing. I know, I'm going to get Matt to redesign something in my garage. Use the most minimal accuracy tools to 'create' something. We'll test it with over powered thirsty motors. Decide we need 400 cc tanks, so that will be the rule we put in the books for the class. Oh, and we'd only sell direct, but defend ourselves saying that LHS could buy if wanted.
8th scalers will probably solidify, AFTER World Peace. So, please, let us go ahead and wait for Obama to complete his plan. hahaha
What else was there?
Oh, I'm looking forward to running BRC. I know, this will be the final round of the series, BUT, lets look at it as a warm up for the next 3 race series. Hopefully, we can raise enough funds, no matter how large/small those may be to make a difference for someone. Maybe it will be that next little push that makes something happen in research, or maybe one more comfortable day for one person who is suffering. I lost my mother to f'ing cancer almost 9 years ago. I hate cancer. Please, bring your racing spirit, your appetite for surely some more good ol bbq.
On the brighter side. My wife (whole month now) has gone 2 for 2 and is looking for #3 at Bakersfield Speedway on Sat night with her team mate Cody Swanson. Wish them luck.
