View Full Version : My Thoughts On Race #3 @ Racers Haven

First I would like to thank EVERYONE that came out to the race, which I believe was the best Dirt Oval race in the great State of California in over a decade....

Frank Amestoy, owner of Racers Haven, was very grateful to be a part of the series, and was blown away by the maturity, the talent level, the great sportsmanship, the ability to follow directions from race directors, and the amount of class demonstrated by the racers of our great series. I agree with him 100%!!!

I gave one rough driving call, and the racer knew he had gotten in over his head on that occasion and settles down.

Mother nature fought with us during the weeks heading into the race, but we got the track into what I believe was the best track ever had at the outdoor Racers Haven Dirt Oval! Traction was extremely high, and tire wear was non existent.

Racers Haven's local racers proved to be very, very competitive, and kept all the visiting racers on their toes.

120 entries is also a new record for the Best of the West series, and I love to see Dirt Oval racing growing in California!

The 8th scale Late Model A-Main was the most intense, CLEAN, 15 Minute main event I have ever seen, with many drivers on different fuel strategies, and overall a great display of driving talent by the West Coast racers...

We had our usual Driver's Social Friday Night where "GrillMan" Mike Isham grilled us up about 15 lbs. of Ti-Tip... and we all enjoyed some good ol' Adult beverages while hanging out with our buddies.

All in all it was a great time, and I did not hear a single complaint all weekend!!! That doesn't mean that there were not any, but nothing important enough to make someone come complain to me!!!

I need to thank TEAM LOSI for making sure our racers were able to obtain ample amounts of DLM2 Spec tires for this race. If they did not go out of their way to ensure we could get tires, tires would not have been available for another week! I am proud that Losi saw our series as important enough to have Losi step up and prove their dedication to RC Dirt Oval racing by assuring we could get tires.

Thank you again to all of the racers that came out, and I am proud to Offer the Rookie Short Course class. We had 7 Rookies, 3 boys, 4 Girls!!!! A racing program is only as strong as its rookie class!!! We need new blood all the time!

To our race series sponsors:
Our racers truly appreciate what you do for us with the merchandise you give us to give away to racers. I would once again like to thank these series sponsors and I hope all of our racers check out these companies and the products they offer to all of us Dirt Oval Racers!

Matt...another great race man! The facility, the racing, the 'Ronald McDonald' paint job on the track, the tri-tip, the people, and the list goes on......were all awesome! Thanks for all your help, and a huge thanks to Gary for the loaner motor, he saved my weekend after mine developed an attitude late friday night.

:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer: for everyone involved including the racers. It was a long day but the people and the action made it well worth it.

I have done alot of racing in my life from go karts to Southwest Tour cars and I can truely say that we have some of the greatest racing and comradery that I have ever been involved in. How often in real racing does the fastest guy in the land come over and help the newbies or the guy that is struggling to find a set up, Not Very... but at every race we have had I have seen guys like Matt, Allan, Jason and so on walking up and down the pits seeing how guys are doing and helping guys who need it. It is a far cry from the off-road scene where every man is for himself and always acting like he has the secret set up LOL. I just wanted to shout out a huge thank you too everyone involved that is racing this series, I also want to thank the CDM guys for their patience with my son running his first ever oval race, oh yea and thanks for encouraging him Shermin it really meant alot to him.......All my kid has talked about since we left is how cool everyone was and how much fun he had all weekend! This series has really got us Redding guys fired up about getting our track done so we can be part of the 2010 BoW series....

No problem guys!!! I think the bbq was the funnest part of the weekend for me, by far. The setup we had on the bbq handled perfectly! Wasn't too tight, wasn't loose out of the corner, just worked perfect. Mike worked it to an easy victory!! He had all the traction and handling needed for cooking up some delicious cow.

I was looking most forward to that for sure. Took a special trip home to get the bbq. Luckily the 'new wife' was nice enough to go shopping for us. Her Crew Chief (Ty) helped her trim the fat and do the seasoning.

Hopefully we can get the both of them out sometime to race. Ty was able to throw a pass on 5 cars down the back straight, only to climb the wheel of the 6th car and end up hanging it in the fence of Turn 3. Shannon has proven 3 wheels are more than enough when running 2wd buggy.

Shannon also won this weekend at Marysville running with BCRA!!

Who is in charge of dead cow and fire at Speedworld?

First I would like to say thanks to Matt and the whole crew at Racers Haven for putting on one hell of a show. That track was super hooked up. Thanks again for all the work it took to get the track ready. I learned alot this weekend. First thing I learned was never try to tune a car that is already fast, you might just tune yourself out of a good car! Next thing I learned was to give your old man some room when he is on a TQ run! A little love tap might make a car break. SORRY POPS!!
Mishaga and John, thanks for the help this weekend! It was much appreciated. Rolland and Jason, as always thanks for all the help! Al and Shannon, thanks for bringing the BBQ and all the dead cow! It is always fun hanging out with all the racers that stick around for a little social time. Shannon congratulations on your victory in the BIG car. See you all at SPEEDWOLD. Mike Isham

Hey Matt, did you see my dad take me out? LOL j/k
