View Full Version : 1/8LM class or classes for the $$$ race in Aug?

May 19th, 2010, 1:28 PM
OK guys.....I have been getting my PM box filled by everyone wanting to know what we are going to do for the $$$ race Aug 20-22 for the 1/8th LM class. So I talked to Bill and he thought taking the racers opinion would be best, so that is who we are leaving it up to......We will do a poll to see if you wanna run all the 1/8th LM's in one class or split em up.
Bill is trying to make as many people happy as he can (he realizes it's not gonna make everyone happy but.....) so it is here for all to see and vote on......If you plan on coming to the Money race in Aug, please vote and give us a brief reason for your choice. Thanks for your time.....
Rules can be found here:
www.bigbillsrcraceway.com (http://www.bigbillsrcraceway.com) Bill's rules
http://www.dirtoval.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47308 URL rules (Chili Bowl)
http://www.ottsspeedshop.com/dlmra-2010rules.html DLMRA rules
We know there are guys from OK, TX, MO, AR and KS that wanna come race but don't wanna run the Open class. We also know there are guys from TN, NC, IN, OH and other east tracks that wanna run Open only and don't wanna split up the classes.....so let's here it!

FIRST ONE Brad.....First one should say, "Run all them together using Big Bill's rules." Better?

Bill's open rules are the same thing as the DLMRA open rules they just don't name bodies and tires. They sound great to me! :D

To many classes don't make the show run longer.....to many entries do.....I think we will cut entries off at 250 this year.....Last year we had 224.....and we didn't have all the URL guys like the year before.....
We have tried running them separate AND together and found that there is hardly any difference....However, with all the new chassis's and misc items, racers all over are making the cars faster and faster every week.....the biggest difference is tires......so we just want whats best for the most people.....Plus everyone can race......a class for everyone in 1/8th LM. Right?

OK I don't know if I got it or not? I say run them all together but doest DLMAR rules just a bout cover it all?
I run a TMR Backlash so I can not go with the URL rules they are just to resistive and not
forward thinking as the class should be. after all this class stared with some one thinking of how to go faster in the first place

The question is not to have only URL rules, but have a limited class using URL rules and an open class using bills rules. I think this would be the best option for the racers from across the country. Allows open cars to race, and limited cars on a limited tire without sidedams!

I see this turning into a "them vs. us" discussion. I say 2 separate classes, 1 completely open anything goes, and the other more of a spec URL type.

Just run them together!!! race whatever the rules are for the track!! it's simple.

Well, the former NSCS guys proved they will not race those rules, and that is a big bunch or racers..... Bills is trying to do what they can to draw racers, be it one big class, or two medium classes..... The previous year, there was decent turnout in both classes!

I say you run Bill's rules. Why change rules for one race to make travelling racers happy? It's a BIG race...if they want to race at it they will fit the rules...if they don't want to conform to the rules then they won't race. It's great to have racers that are willing to travel to a race, but if they seriously want to race they will.
Do the tracks that race under different rules offer to use a different rules package for their BIG races?
For me...whatever the rules are...I will make sure that my car fits the rules.

Not really changing rules Curtis.....just thinking about adding a class. Bill runs open 1/8th on a weekly basis so we are just asking which "Limited" set of rules the racers would like or even if its worth having two classes.....thats all. Bring that new Losi down....:checkeredflag:

Curtis, why in the world would you ever think to run the track rules for a race at your track? ;)
Sorry all, I just couldn't pass this one up.:D

There might have been a decent turn out but look at what happened afterwards. Chad was criticized for using the parts that he had on the car. If you run it the way he did last year then that can't happen because it is open. I don't think that there were as many entries in 8 scale then with both classes as there was last year with one. I can't see that as a big bunch of racers. I see that as maybe 20 if they all came together and raced. I would be willing to bet that the open class will be even bigger this year than last year because of the newer chassis options that are being offered late in the year last year.

Tim, the idea is not to lose anyone from OPEN, its to gain the drivers in Limited.....AND maybe they will also run more than one class (nitro or electric sprint)....not to mention, maybe some of the guys who don't have the $$$, car or experience, for open, would feel more comfortable in the limited class. That's really it.....plus some guys would run their limited car in open like before.....hope you can make it again this year.....should be nicer weather than last year.....we hope. :)

I would really like to see a limited class as well, I would like to race open and limited myself and I know of a few guys that havn't ran much that would rather run limited at bills using DLMRA rules or the same as open rules just change the motor. Just my 2 cents

Run them separate and run them in the morning and afternoon. Rework the track before the 1/10 scales race. Maybe then the 1/10 scale guys will have a great track like the weekly shows are.

That's exactly what we have been thinking.....good idea Mr. GFRP....but that top groove is holding lots of moisture....you wont have to worry about that.

CANT WAIT TO GET UP THERE AGAIN. I KNOW 6-10 RACERS FROM THE VOLUNTEER STATE THAT ARE COMING. I SAY DEF. RUN OPEN (BIILS/DLMRA) AND LIMITED SEPERATE.
I WOULD LOVE FOR MY 10 YEAR OLD TO RUN LIMITED, BUT WE ARE OUT ON THE URL RULES. IF PUSH COMES TO SHOVE HE WILL RUN OPEN ALSO. PRAYING FOR NICE WEATHER AND NO 36 HOUR RACE DAY:thumbsup:

looks like 80 latemodels so far. Does Big Bills get any Electric 8th scales? I started running one and they are pretty equal to the nitro with the dlmra rules. Thanks Eugene

Stan, the only elec LM I have seen at Bill's was Nick A from A+ Bodies. He brought it up once and was flying....and I think he was still under geared. On a weekly show, I'm sure they would/could run with the nitro ones until there is enough to separate them....as far as the big $$$ race, there won't be any elec 1/8th scales. Hope you can make it and bring some others with you.

1035 views and it kinda looks like Bill's open rules combined with the Chili Bowl rules (limited) will make for a great show....we'll leave the poll up for a couple more days, but I doubt it changes much from this.
Is it Aug yet? Felt like it yesterday at the Pekin Central high graduation yesterday....90+ degrees for 3.5 hrs.....yuck!

I could see using a limited and open class would bring in more racers for this race rather than choosing between the different set of rules. My vote is for Limited and Open, so if a new guys wants to compete he doesn't feel that he has to have a $600 big block just to run up front..
Matt Murphy

I would love to have both classes also so guys can run big money class or small money class.... and be competitive at least equipment wise either way!
The track will NOT go black... Eugene works his @$$ off making the track dialed, and will keep moisture in the track, and keep the surface good and fresh!
