As we get closer, the forecast is now calling for 95 to 100 degree days friday and saturday! Please be prepared. It will feel even hotter as its the first 90 plus days of the year.... Drink lots of water and be sure to bring shade!

Since "meteorologists" know nothing.... the earlier forecasts are now out the window. The un-forecasted rain in Bakersfield monday and tuesday did not help the track, as it will now have to be resealed.
Weather.com shows rain next Thursday as of right now... not good. Accuweather.com shows no such rain.
Both sites are forecasting 80-83 degree weather that friday and saturday though!
We will see, as I will keep everyone posted.

Matt,
If the rain does come (despite the rain dance) in the middle of the week, would that mean we still run, but on a dirt track (not sealed)?
Thanks Brian

last year when I was down there the track was awesome and it rained that weekend and it was not sealed
it was dirt but with a lot of soda on it. it was one fast track (but we all ran foams)
think that it would be to your advantage if it does rain the Rescue gang is fast in the loose

I really will not make any calls just yet... weather forecasts are usually inaccurate until the day of anyways...LOL.
I have had 6 or 7 calls and emails about making Saturday practice and Sunday race day. I really don't see any issues, IF that is what the racers want, and will work out the best...
I am planning on re-sealing the track Thursday.
Let me know what you guys think....

I see no reason to cancel the race....unless weather forecast turns really ugly.

Talked to Frank today, plan is to get some sealer into the track this weekend (hopefully Sunday), and re-seal if necessary on Thursday. Also, plans are being made to cover the track if necessary later in the week to keep the surface protected should the rain materialize.
I don't put much faith in weather forecasts, especially in Bakersfield. Many times it will be raining over the whole state and dry here. I have even seen it dump a half inch of rain on the north side of town and be dry on the south side. We will just have to roll with it and do the best we can. I agree with not cancelling the race, as the weekend weather looks like it will be good, the only question mark seems to be Thurs-Fri. If the weather is bad on Thurs-Fri, then bumping the race back to Sunday as mentioned above is always an option...most guys travelling probably are staying Sat night anyway.
Regarding the surface, it will be sealed in one way or another. As I have stated many times, our track can only be run wet at night, and for all intents and purposes it cannot be run as Rescue-style loose dirt. Rest assured, we will all do everything in our power to provide you all with the best racing surface possible.

Weather forecast is looking better each day, chance of rain later in the week is now gone. Lets hope the weather guessers know what they are doing...looks clear after tomorrow, next Sat forecast is clear and mid 80's.

The usual weather pattern sees the rain stay North of Fresno, and that is what is predicted for later in the week. We got rain in Bakersfield this morning, and the showers are supposed to go away by this afternoon. The rest of the week looks dry at this point, so lets keep our fingers crossed and our luck horseshoes polished. I am headed to the track right now to see if we can do any work, if not we will start as soon as it has dried up from todays rain (usually within an hour or two after the sun comes out).
Current forecast for the weekend: Friday - Mostly Sunny 74, Saturday - Sunny 81...almost perfect racing weather, since it is usually pushing 100 in Bakersfield in late May.

Kevin,
Thanks for the update. I have several weather sites bookmarked and it's amazing how different the forecasts are. I've decided to depend on your reports and forecasts. Much more positive and less frustrating. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I've seen a couple of forecasts that don't look too promising. Any better news from your end?

Great news. I like your Weather Channel better. Mine says chance of showers tonight and tomorrow morning and the Southwestern Weather Network which is usually pretty accurate for here showed showers clear through to Thursday. It's raining here and forecast to do so into Friday. I think I'll just wait for your reports.
