Sometimes you get pinched down there by a seemingly out of control car! When making a split second decision on whether to get clobbered or swerve left....sometimes you forget they are there.

How about an inside pit/hole. This way if a car gets to close it would just fall off the track or you can send your fellow racer into the pit and get them out of the race and you wont have to deal with them side ways in the corners.

Second!!! BERMS SUCK!

I don't understand The Mill has an inside pipe like a wall, Staub's has a inside wall. I don't hear anyone campaigning to remove them. There is no penalty for cutting the corner short with a berm.

I stopped by last night and WOW the track looked great. Let just say reconfigured means reconfigured. I love the look of the new layout and let's just say the racing should be great.

May 19th, 2010, 8:52 AM
I thought it was easier to see your car in the corners with the wall removed. The rumble strips did make things "interesting" to say the least. The dirt berm was the best in my opinion.

bumps and jumps rc
May 19th, 2010, 8:57 AM
There are 2 problems with the berm
One is that it is difficult to make offroad layouts with a berm
Two is that over the course of the year we lost 1' of berm the entire way around.
You guys thought you were getting fast - but actually the track was getting smaller.
I have decided not to put in rumble strips
Instead we will have Breckenridge bumps! :D

Both good points. But I would assume the rumble strips made it even harder to do a off-road layout. I just remember in years past with the wall a lot of guys would end up broke before the races even started. Mark is right, There should be a penalty for cutting the corner but when you get stuck up against it, it penalizes the next few cars to come along as well. I would bet there were a whole lot less broken parts and chunked tires this winter than in years past. If you got up on the berm you would get loose or out of shape and usually have to lift to get things gathered back up but at least you didnt have to pay full price.

No criticism here these are just my thoughts. Chris does a great job and I have a great time there everytime I go. I will look forward to racing at Bumps even if theres barbed wire around the inside as long as the cookies are hot!!!

who cares about off road, need more track maintenance then. did you ever think that the 1' lost was due to dragging not just racing? i didnt see people cutting corners, i seen them ramping them.

I used the same set of golds from Nov. till the tour race. Raced at one out door track so far this year had one bad chunked tire and one cracked rim. I think Chris's set up is best for keeping us racing and not totally killing the wallet.

I care about offroad - it is a vital part of the business - it takes both to make the business solvent.
The berm did shrink in size from dragging the track - that would be considered track maintenance.
The only cutting occurring at bumps lately has been your mouth!

Hey if you're going to name something after me at least let me look at it first;)

I have always been a fan of walls. Racers respect the wall and drive a line that allows them to mess up a little and still not hit it. Racing at Staubs last year I remember very few issues with wrecks being caused by the wall. With berms and pipes, racers take more risks, thinking they can cut the corner and maybe just get messed up a little if they hit it. But all you have to do is watch a few races before you realize how many wrecks are caused by cars hitting the berm and getting out of shape. That being said, the berm at Bumps last season was for whatever reason the best I have raced on. It almost made me forget how much I like walls.
Bring on the barbed wire!

you care more about off road than oval and i am just voicing my opinion!!!!!!! which doesnt count anyhow and my mouth is not the only cutting at Bumps.....look with in!!!!Bottom line is since I work here and know what goes on is this.... Other than two big races offroad drew more people on a weekly basis. Race weekends where almost equal every Sat and Sun but offroad Tuesday practice does 30 to 35 a week while racing on Wed, plus practice on Thur and Fri. Offroad generates as much money in 2 days as oval does in 4 days.

This place won't generate enough business with just running oval or offroad. It takes both to the shop open.

I look at it like this. Everyone has money or think they know whats best so go out and get a loan, build a track and see what happens. I will bet any money most can't make 3 years!!!!

I now know why he takes the summer off!!!!!!!!!!!! If it where me I would close and then you can keep your thousands of dollars sitting at home collecting dust. IMO the **** he puts up with isn't worth the little bit of money he makes.

You are correct $12 entry

Track is groomed and ready to race
First leg of the point series
First race on the reconfigured track.

I will get the feed up tomorrow - so those of you who can't make it can see the difference.
I am sure it will be hard to tell from the video - but the bottom is completely flat - and begins to start a bank about half way up the middle of the turn.
I have spent a lot of time on this - and I am hoping for multiple groves.
So we will all find out tomorrow what it changes :)

Chris is this series still open for anyone to run? In the future will these types of races be structured any different?

Sure open to anyone
I am not sure what you mean structured different.
You mean the same track every month?

I mean is it still going to be limited and 13.5? and will it still be open to expert drivers?

there is only one race left - this week.
I am not sure it matters - or for that matter I don't think anyone one cares.
Hope you can make it.

Last round of the series wed night.
$25 to win each class and $ for the point series.

Last new and different configuration.
What will it be? - not a figure eight
I'll figure it out Wednesday when I lay it out.

Mains will start at 8:50

Heading into the last race Joey and Kenny fisher are tied in 13.5 late model
Neither one was the TQ, that belongs to Curt Seiber
So whoever finishes higher in the main wins $68 for the points fund, and if that person wins they receive the $25 to win

In limited Brian Bowie is the points leader with Andy Phelps only 6 points back.
That is about 3 positions apart heading into the main
The points are worth $70 for this class.

I just wanted to thank you all for coming out all summer.
I had a lot of fun with the series, the different track configurations and the drama leading into both mains to see who was going to be the winner was fun.
Thanks again to all of you for making the trec.

PS I did post the points update last night.

I saw the points, I was just wanted to see the results of the 9/22 races. I know Curt won 13.5 and Bryan won LLM but would like to see the complete results.
