View Full Version : **IMPORTANT** Schedule Change

Race #4, originally scheduled for June 26th at Kit & Caboodle, has been changed. The race will now be on June 19th at Speedworld in Roseville, CA.

Many of the Nitro Racers were complaining about running on the tight indoor bullring at Kit and Caboodle. I am listening to you racers, but with only a few available Dirt Ovals in California, Speedworld was the only logical, and available alternative.

Yes this will be a pavement race. All classes will run foam tires except for the 8th Late Models which will still be using the DLM2 Spec Tires. Everyone who has been to speedworld knows how big there track is, however I ensure all of you, the track layout will be below 200 feet in runline. We will have extremely high bite, and on big, hooked up tracks, horsepower becomes the most important factor. I am working together with Billy Bowerman of Speedworld to bring the racers a fun race, with a high bite, racy, and tight oval track. Billy has hosted many world class events at his facility, and I expect that the racers will enjoy this change of pace, and the professionalism of Billy's race programs.

The track will not be open for practice on Friday the 18th. The track will open on Saturday morning, with an electric only session, followed by a nitro only session, and then a round of controlled practice leading into the days racing. We will run 2 heats and Main events.

I look forward to racing with all of you again!

Matt

how about pulling the wings off and race like real asphalt sprint cars.

No K and C? Weak? You guy are all scared! I thought the idea was to have every spectrum of tracks? I think this fell in that class. Ohh well...running on asphalt will change it up too, and Billy is a class act, so I am sure the race will be run well.

If you guys wanna run with no wings I say go for it! Mine will be staying on :D It sounds cool to run wingless until you run one on asphalt and crash it at 45mph.

I don't know if Doug at K and C wants this bigger event or not... But doesn't Kitts deserve their chance. Even if some of the nitro guys aren't into it, some of us were and not to mention how competitve the electric classes will be. Don't get me wrong, I think speedworld should be on the tour also, just think it kinda lame to ditch K and C for few complaints.

I thought K&C would have been really different, like a little bull ring, but the asphalt at speedworld would be crazy fast. Hopefully this is the only schedule change though, because I am sure a lot of guys had to plan these days off months in advance like me!!

Guys,
I thought long and hard about this decision. I knew I would upset some of you. I wanted to run nitro at K&C probably more than anyone else.... After speaking to many many racers who told me from the start that K&C would be their throwout because they have ZERO interest in running there, and considering the work that Doug would need to do to accomodate the Nitro cars, especially the 8th scales, I felt the change was in the best interest of the series.

After averaging 100 cars a race, I feel it would be bad for the series to have a race a major number of racers do not want to be a part of. I apologize to any of you that do not like my decision, but I am trying to provide the best possible racing for all of the series racers.

Thank you all foir your support of the series. I can't express how glad I am to be a part of this great racing! Remember it is you, the racers that make this series great!

I'll race wherever the series races but I'm afraid I'll need to fill up another big box with spares. Crazy fast.

Speedworld will have about 22-24 foot wide straightaways.... SHOULDN'T be able to hit much....but I will likely be the first to break something...LOL

And this is the only schedule change, unless mother natures steps in again. The remainder of the series is set in stone...

Does anyone know if Billy runs the oval on a regular basis or if he has a regualr practice schedule for the oval? I have never run on asphalt and I struggled on the CVR hybrid dirt/asphalt compound LOL. This should be interesting...

Personally I'm bummed about not running K&C and I think having the 2 throw outs might be what hurt them. I had kind of the same opinion about recuse, saying I wouldnt run there because the one time I did go there were rocks the size of baseballs on the track. Judging from the pictures though it looks like the track has come a long way! Funny about guys saying they wouldn't run nitro at K&C, I bought a nitro car only to run at K&C! I thought it would be really fun, kind of like running 410 sprint cars at Ventura speedway on the small 1/5 mile track.

I would like to hear that Doug is relieved by the decision and not upset by it, as it is my local track and I know having a big event generates a lot of interest in a facility, not to mention how awesome and realistic the racing surface is there.

So are the guys that were claiming K&C now the true outlaws on the tour? LOL

I see both sides of the coin on this one But Honestly I really didnt see any way that K&C would work for 1/8 LM Talk About Battlebots!!!!!!!!!!!! They need Room to run As far as 1/10 Nitro Cars I tlooks a little small for that but would work with some real good ventilation. I have ran nitro indoors before and you need lotts of air movement or it just sucks You end up with A headache in no time. It should be interesting to run on Pavement We will see just how really fast our cars will go

Matt I support your decision 100%. I just feel it's unfortunate that so many people assume something won't work, or will not be fun before they even try it.

Doug was not exactly looking forward to having the nitro guys show up.... He expressed to me he had thought about pulling out prior to our conversation. The amount of work, and modifications to the facility to accomodate the nitro cars also were a little much for one day. Doug has a strong race program, and a track that many including myself really love racing on.

I will work with Doug later in the year to promote his big annual race. With the amount of racers we are getting for the series, I am sure we can get 100 entries for a big show at K&C.

I checked the Speedworld web site schedule and there are no oval races or practices the rest of May. There is no schedule for June yet. Will there be a practice or local race day there before the BOTW race day?

Thanks, Frank

I am not sure about his club race schedule, but I guarantee that he will not race with the same layout we will have at the series race. The track is Asphalt, high bite, and flat. If we are lacking traction, we will put sugar down, so bite will be high no matter what.

any idea on the tire of choice for the electric classes?

I'd probably say foams, I think it would eat street tracks worse than CVR did.

Matt Murphy

Yes foams on 10th scales. Probably pink and purple compounds. Harder tire, longer wearing. Softer tire, faster wearing.

With almost no nitro guys planning on running the bullring, It did not make sense to have a series race there with half of our racers missing..... We would run all dirt tracks, if there were more dirt tracks to choose from.... JoJo, build a good dirt track, maybe we will come. Until then, we will enjoy our pavement race....

Matt, we actually have a tractor slated for 2 weeks out or so and we are going to start our Redding track, most likely won't be ready for a BoW race this season, but we hope to get on board for next series!!! The track is in a commercial complex with no curfew, lots of power, water, plenty of parking and a Hobby shop on site...

Sherm, it is at the south end of the airport in Redding, Ca , not much to take pic of yet, just piles of dirt, we have 120 yards of red clay dirt so far, but we need to do some rock removal and grade the track spot before we start moving it in. It will be approx 100' x 50' with 15' racing lanes and 20 ft of infield, hoping for 200ft run line or so, just depends on final layout. We are working on having it ready for 2011 BoW, hope to run some late summer/fall races this year though. Us Northern guys need a home track, rescue is closest at 2.5 hours and we've made a few trips to BRC at 4 hours, so would be nice to get a home track and build a good driver bas up North.
