A couple of questions about setup. What will be the tire of choice at Rescue for the CW sprintcars? If they are offroad pins will you have to run an offroad header for clearance, and will both nerf bars need to be removed? And CDM's. Pins in back, ribs in front? Any setup help will be greatly appreciated. I am sure many of us have never been there.

I ran a Nitro Sprint race there about 4-5 years ago, and the tire of choice were bowties on the rear and ribbed fronts. At the time, I think I was one of only a few racers using a CW car, as most of the regulars were running truck-based sprint cars or other similar cars (Klein, etc...) and I do remember that I needed to run a maximum sized wheel spacer to clear the header on the left side. As for tires, there was a trick used to "belt" the tires before mounting them involving duct tape and spray adhesive. We would turn the tire inside-out, and cut pieces of duct tape to size to fit the inside of the tire. Next, we would use 3M '77' spray adhesive and coat the inside of the tire. Once coated, lay the duct tape around the inside out tire and let the adhesive dry. Once dry, turn the tire back right-side out and you had a belted pinspike tire. It was a pain in the @$$, but it hepled keep the tires from growing under power.

Regarding the nerf bars, you would definitely have problems with unbelted tires, and even with belted tires you may still have problems. I know I ran my car without the left side nerf bar, but I kept the right side on.

Also, if you have a loose track setup with longer shocks I would use it, as the track tended to get a little bumpy as the day went on and a little extra suspension travel helps out.

Once again, my observations are from my fuzzy memory from years ago, hopefully someone else will give more current advise...

Phil for a GSX Sprint car you will have take the off-set out of the car. For the rear end you'll need standard length dog bones. In the front, you just move the whole suspension to the center position. You'll need and "off-road" pipe like from your GT2 or similar. THS makes a pretty nice and cheap one that I think Tower sells. You'll want to get a couple sets of Proline ribbed fronts M3 compound and for the rear a couple sets of Proline Holeshots, Bowties or Calibers (Safest bet is probably Bowties). Look at the set-up sheets for the Nitro Outlaw car on the Custom Works website under the Support section, tech tips - there are 2 setups from Nick Rank and Nathan Dean for loose tracks. these will give you an idea of overall setup (shock oil, springs, caber link locations, etc.)

Thats pretty much the setup info for rescue but i think the bowtie has been discontinued. get them if you can. I am going to try the calibers this sunday they look and feel like they should work. And on the CDM some times hole shots on all four corners works good and ribs up front always work. Look for the track to start out a little wet or moist as the track will dry out and take rubber it does get a little rough at times.

Phil,

I have a pipe and manafold that will clear your tire

Hey Phil
As far as the cdm goes set it up like you did for fremont to start... I have ran mine there and the only thing i changed was the tires ..Its a longer track than fremont was but the tires are bigger so the fremont gear should be close as well.....in fact i ran the same gear at madera this weekend that i used to run at fremont ...so the gear you have on the car now should be close...might be alittle high...but as far as shocks springs and ride height you should be close with your old fremont setup...It will be a good start,, then just give it what it asks for once you get there..:) Rex

Thanks guy's. Sounds like the sprint car is going to need the most work to change over. I hope to have it done by Saturday so I can get some practice laps in at BRC. Pete thanks for the pipe offer but i have a few offroad headers i can use. I just need to order more tires and rims :(. I sure hope we get more nitro sprints and CDMs out at Rescue.

Bowties have always been good for me at Rescue for both my Outlaw and Rocket. I did run Calibers there just after they came out and they worked just fine. I'll have both for comparison and fine tuning. One thing for sure, we'll not go through tires like last weekend. LOL.

Frank what foams are you using also are you duct or Gorilla taping any of your rear tires

I use the stock foams that Proline sends with the tires. I don't use tape, string or anything else to keep the tire from expanding. If I wing them up with no load they expand but when on the track with little or no tire spin I don't notice expansion as being a problem. I use the smallest punch to put two holes in the inside side wall near where the tread starts 180° apart. Hope this helps.

Bob,

I have 4 sets of tires for rescue 2 hole shot and 2 calibers 1 set of each have bomb one foams for set up options and might put a set together with tape the track will be fast in the groove and loose around the top of the track.

I did go out to Rescue yesterday and caught someone running on the oval in about 6'' of mud he lost a chock coller and thouhgt it would be a good idea to make laps around the track on foot to look for it in 6'' of mud. so i very nicely explained to him how that $10c part he was looking for was now going to cost hundreds of dollars for us to repair the track he had damaged nad then asked him if he made a habbit of destroying other peoples property for his own pleasure and asked him to leave and not ever come back.

Note: This was not a racer. From the parking lot anyone could see that the track was to wet.

I will start in the morning before the heat sets in and stay all day keeping the track wet. We plan to keep it under water untill some time thursday we will let it dry some to be ready friday for practice.

How long does the track usually take to dry out? There is sizeable amounts of rain forecasted for monday thru wednesday next week, and then again friday and saturday with a chance of rain sunday. I got got this from weather.com, and accuweather.com.

You may not need to put any moisture into the track.....

You are correct Matt the weather will dictate the amount of water put in the track
