Hi, new here!

My Son recently came across an old T.A. R/C-10 that was set up for dirt oval years ago. It's got some kewl old skewl parts on it as well as some out of date ways of doing things like silicone coated foam tires. We are trying to do is bring it back to racing and what my Son wants to do is update it with some new parts and he also wants to run a late model body.

We are located real close to Staubs, but I need more info as to whether or not we can even run this type of car combo or not.

Any additional info on car set up is appreciated as well.

Thanks
Troy & Kyle

Sorry guys. We do not run an electric truck class anymore. Please visit our website at www.staubbrothers.com (http://www.staubbrothers.com/) and check out the class specs link to see the classes that we offer. Since you are so close, I suggest you stop by when we open up in May to see what dirt oval RC racing is like and what options are available to you and your son if you are interested in getting into the hobby. It certainly is a great experience for a father and son.

If this is a car based rc10 buggy then it should fit into the rules for the 13.5 latemodel class. Silicones are no longer legal to be run but a good set of foams can be purchased and ran on this type of car with some small changes.(rear hubs changed to Custom works and B3 cvd's) I built a vintage rc10 last winter and ran it at bumps and jumps and was fairly competative with it. It will at least get you on the track. You will however need to upgrade to brushless and lipos because this 13.5 Latemodel class is a spec class one type of motor and battery(this being the dodc 13.5 motor and dodc lipo battery which can be purchased at bumps and jumps).

If you have any more specific questions please feel free to post them or send me a pm(private maessage).

Again please check out the link that Scott posted above for rules but I think you can make it work in the 13.5 latemodel class. This class also has a list of approved bodies for it which I'm sure is in the link posted above.

Hope this helps

This is the car that we want to use, but I've been told that it will not be a very good choice becasue the newer cars are much better. We may abandon the project at this point since there doesn't seem like there's a good place for a 12yo to start out at... Thanks just the same for the helpful info.

There is no reason you can't run the sportsmen class at Staubs'. That is open to novces with any car. There are mostly gas cars but you can run just fine with an electric car. Since it is you first time racing this would be a good beginner to get a start with. It may not be a big winner but it will get you started.

My suggestion would be just come out like Scott said and see what is all about before you throw the towel in.

I see the pictures fine. It's not a bad car, will make a good beginner car to run sportsmen. Might need motor & battery. When they open up you need to come out before you dump it.

Oops. I don't know what I was reading or why I thought it was a RC-10 truck. :o

But I tell you what, that is one nostalgic RC car you got there. The original RC-10 was my first true dirt oval car. Loved it! I bet you could sell that one to someone who appreciates the good ole days and use that money to buy a used Gas truck or even a used 13.5 Late Model.

As stated in an earlier post, our Sportsman class is an ideal starting place for your son. RC racing is a fun and addicting hobby. The best advice I can give you is start slow. Don't spend more money than your experience and pocket book can handle.

Turbo like Staub said use what you have (maybe upgrade to the lipo and brushless equipment) and let the new racer out in the sportsman class. The biggest advantage to the lipo/brushless upgrade is the long life of the combo. Then if he has fun and the $$'s allow move to something else. I can safely say there are ALOT of racers at staubs that will be more than willing to help a new racer out.

If you make it there for opening day of the 2010 seaon or any day during the season look for me in the pits. I'll be pitted behind a subaru outback with TBRC racing on the back window. Myself and the rest of the TBRC team will be more than willing to help in any way we can.

HEY Scott when is opening day ????????

May 1st will be opening day. It looks like that day will need to be more practice than a regular race (the snow has been a problem), but we plan to have at least one or two timed races to check out our equipment and work out the other changes/upgrades before the big Championship Dash race on May 8.
