I sold my B4 to a friend who never had a RC car before. I need the instruction manual that comes with the kit. Does anyone have one? Please bring it to the meeting at Vince's. I would appreciate it.
Now I will have some money to upgrade my sprint operation. I got my eye on a "new" 15 year old RC10. The 30 year old one is ready for 2WD open mod. Beware Commander Cliff!

I just found out that I won't be able to make the meeting.
Mouse and I talked about stuff the other day and I agee with him on most stuff.
13.5 latemodel rules look good.
Mod latemodel???????? Come up with the rules and I'll see if I want to run that. If 3 cars make a class and Maryville has an Open Mod class, then we could run anything in that class.
Just remember to listen mostly to the guys that actually want to run that class.

I'd be up for running a Mod Late Model class with no Motor, Battery, or ESC restrictions on rubber tires using DODC body rules.
It might be fun to have a Track Record night or something once or twice this year and bring out an Open car just to see how fast we can get a 2wd (or even a 4wd) around the track. Otherwise, I have very little interest in running an Open 2wd class as I would like to see some sort of Mod LM class gain some popularity this year for the possibility of it getting added to the series in 2011. I don't think an Open 2wd will be able to do that.

Did that the year before last.. takes too much time, people were complaining about getting out of there too late. It is fun though. People also complained about how we seeded the people after they qualified. Fastest to slowest or like real race cars? No matter what ya do not everybody's gonna be happy.
p.s.- what was said about the 13.5 late models? straight dodc rules with the street tracs?

The main question I would have to ask would be why are we taking steps backwards when the 13.5 class is supported NATIONALLY and there are many cars out there that are compliant.I could see outlawing the black diamond,as it was at the usowc in spec classes, but making people buy inferior technology to race at your track just absolutely blows my mind and I guarantee it will hurt attendance from out-of-towners and probably locally as I'm sure most of the guys already have this stuff.

well from what i got out of all of it it that yes there are certain rules but they are waiting for the series to define the rules. the 13.5s there was some talk about the speedos. the sprints are gonna be basically the same nothing changed. mdm 10.5 and maybe open speedo still searching for the majority on it. and there will be a mod late model with open tire, motor, and speedo but i think they were gonna keep the bodys without side thingys.
theres rules are not final so dont go off of what i have here it was just to see what people would like.
ps. jermey i have your motor.

he asked what the difference between the 2 and I showed him what an open car was.I dont care what anyone says, an open lm is one of the best cars to drive. It was one of the first d.o. r/c classes back in the 80's and 90's.The class died when they took the wings off because you can go just as fast with limited power because the spoiler rules are the same.

Before people start getting all worked up over the 13.5 class (too late?), lets look at this from a different perspective.
First, the 13.5 LM's in the series was ALWAYS intended to be a SPEC, SLOWER class. The 13.5 motor was chosen because at the time it was considered to be a stock brushed equivelant and produced reasonably slower speeds compared to a mid range (19 turn) and mod motors. Mixed with the Street Trac tires the cars weren't out of control compared to the amount of grip available yet weren't completely hooked up like carpet racing either. Its a nice balance of moderate speed and just enough grip to make it fun to drive.
The new ESC technology (dynamic timing) has turned 13.5 classes into virtual mod racing. The speeds in some cases (on-road for example) are almost if not identical to mod class speeds. Just about ALL forms of oval racing is seeing 13.5 and 17.5 classes going roughly 2 laps faster than previously with older ESC's. With a class that was intended to go a certain speed to cater to a broader range of driving abilities, the new dynamic timing speed controls will completely go against that intention. Afterall if the class was meant to see how fast we could get one to go, there wouldn't be a battery restriction and a motor restriciton in the first place.
Now only considering the speed issue, yea the class could be turned into a 17.5 class and despite the dynamic timing the speeds MIGHT be able to stay relatively close to the original 13.5/older ESC speeds. But here are a few more areas of concern. First, the class already had a good core group of drivers supporting it. Not allowing dynamic timing ESC's will keep the class true to its original intent AND allow the drivers who already supported the class to use their eqipment from last year and still be competitive. The Second thing to consider is there is no guarantee that the current technology won't get blown away by this time next year, or worse, midway through the season by even newer stuff.
The ESC technology is a moving target right now and there is no telling when it will settle down. Again, keeping in mind this class is intended to be a SPEC class it doesn't sound too wise to allow an ESC of the Month competition to take place in what is already suppose to be a spec, moderate speed class. We already have a mod class for those who like to tinker with speed controls.

We also brought up the idea to cliff about running qualifying with the sprints I think that would be really fun and more realistic.
Qualifying can be fun, but if you're after getting as much track time you can, you're basically reducing the track time unless you plan to stil run 3 heats which as Matt said would push the mains back further and get things later and later.
There is a version of RC Scoring Pro that has whats called Quarterscale Mode. The system will basically allow you to qualify (or draw for position), seed drivers in heats based on qualifying (Fastest in Heat1, 2nd in Heat 2, 3rd in Heat3, , etc ) and then score points in each heat to determine Main lineups. A little bit more realistic but can be more complicated as well. You also need to make sure you get the version that has Quarterscale Mode.
i was also informed that some legal bodies in dodc won't be allowed in the 13.5 class....
As far as the series goes that was always the case and no one complained. The only ones not allowed were bodies that didn't really fit the "realistic" look and aren't used by very many people to begin with. I think you'll see some, if not all of the newer bodies get approved and other than the 3 - 4 bodies (first few on the DODC list I think) not be allowed, I think the body rules will probably be the same (as they were already).
Whats the diffrence between "open" mod late model, and mod late model?
thanks
chad
"Open" Mod is considered anything goes (usually in terms of body/aero rules) and just Mod would be any motor/batt/esc/tires with some restriciton on bodywork.
the thingy on the side that makes an open car fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
see post 26 that is an open latemodel
lol... Brad I hate to say it but I wouldn't really call that an "Open" Mod car. Something like what Mouse posted would be more like what you'll end up seeing in a Open Mod class. I see Open Mod Late Model as what was run 4 - 5 years ago with bodies that resembled more a spaceship than a car combined with sail panels and center sections that would mimic a sprint car wing.

You know we do have a class called 2wd Open Mod. That is where the cars with the side panels (crutch):D wedge bodies or what ever would be running. That is why we made this class. It is for cars that dont fit a specific class. It could be nitro or electric. The Mod class that is being talked about is same bodies that we use in 13.5 LM class. But you can run any motor, speedo, buggy tires and batteries. Tires would be have to be inside the body. For now thats it. These things are still being talked about. Nothing right now has been decided on except the Mod Sprints. There are DODC only. We will have another meeting to talk more and decide things. Cyas....Mouse :revs::revs::greenflag:

Since the ESC question continues to come up, I have a question.
As most know, I haven't raced in a while and technology has obviously left me behind. My understanding of the new speedos (the little electronic gizmo, NOT the fashionable swimwear) is that for limited motor classes the timing is advanced at a user selectable rpm so that you get better upper end performance out of a given motor. On the flip side, in an open motor situation you can tailor low rpm power delivery while experiencing the upper end performance that the motor has to offer. In a sense this is taking the place of what we used to call throttle control (back in the day we used our left pointer finger and maybe a simple exponential curve in the radio to accomplish the same task).
Now my questions:
1. I remember that last year there was a big push back on gyros on the steering channel. Since many are in favor of using the ESC's (as well as doping tires but that's a different discussion altogether) in an effort to make the cars, for all intents and purposes, easier to drive why would gyros not be allowed on the steering channel? Both are electronic aides in driving the car but simply on different channels on the radio. I ask this question tongue in cheek since I obviously do not favor either electronic advantage.
2. Once everyone figures out the settings for a particular track and EVERYONE benefits from the same increase in performance (which shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks) what is the difference if everyone is running a Novak Havoc or a new Tekin ESC and motor (besides about $200 per person less money in their wallet)? Again, this is largely a rhetorical quastion since the technolgy horse is out of the barn.
These are just a couple of thoughts that I had since I would hate to see dirt oval head the way of dirt oval in the early 90's and, recently, pan cars (at least locally) and touring cars. In all three cases set up complexity, tire manipulation and ever expanding technology took this from a hobby to nearly a job and when it's more work than fun to race a toy car, the mid/lower level guys drop out leaving a handful of die hard racers who are unable to sustain local tracks.
One thing is certain, I do not envy the fella's (Mouse, Cliff, Chris, Allen, Bear, et al) that have to set and enforce rules. Just remember that in every case they are trying to do the right thing for the hobby and to ensure a level playing field for everyone.

Hey Scott, you forgot the price of the Hotwire from the Speedo to the laptop that you have to have to program it.
I think you have 2 different groups of racers.
1) The guy that races just to have fun with what he's got and can afford to get. Nice close racing even if it's for 3rd or 4th in any main besides the A-main.
2) The diehard racer that races every race, qualifer or main, like he has to win or nothing else. He has the time and money to try to be at the top.
Most of the time the 2 groups won't agree on rules.

I think the rule issue can be very simple go by DODC and leave it at that . If others dont want DODC rules then they need a second class for them it will make it easier when people want to run at Maryville or any of the Ill tracks they know there won't be a issue.
