I'm starting the season with an Outlaw Sprint, & Kyosho MDM, (hey Mouse, hows them bodies comming?). Hopefully I'll be rockin the new Hyperdrive Assault Sprint & Hyperdrive 13.5 2wd Latemodel soon after. Gotta get my racing budget in shape! The BIGGEST change I'm making this year is the new racehauler, AKA Biff DaVan, (named after Biff the Michelen Man... big & white...get it?) I might need to talk to Canham about wrapping that beast. :D Bring on the summer oval season, winter sucks!

Guys no need to wait for summer come on over to Albion(Rector raceway) for some high traction indoor dirt oval racing. The track is in great shape now and ready for some racing. I think the next race is 1/3/10.Bring the spr.,LM and MDM and any other electric over (will make a class as long as we have 3)and bring your friends, and lets race. The track has been smoothed out and ready to run some fast laps.If you have any questions send me a PM and i will get you an answer.Later Jason.

I'd like to know just what kind of tires does the track like ?
demoj21
December 24th, 2009, 1:48 PM
If you are asking about Albion, foams, rubber caps, and silicon tires are working, depends on class rules. For mdm taper pins, almost slicked would be a good starting point. Tim W. on here will know more about tire selection, i have yet to run on the new surface.Later Jason.

Remember 3 cars make a class at our track. SO yes there could be a LM mod class. As far as any rules that may be up to the guys that make the class. For now its Mod sprints, 13.5 LM, MDM and 2 wheel drive open. Gonna have a few meetings soon. Got to figure where and when. Probably will be a Vince's shop again. Just got to figure a good time and day for all. Let me know whats good. Cyas.....Mouse

What sort of body rules are we talking for mod? Ugly wedge bodies with side dams or the same body rules as the 13.5 class just with mod motors, batteries, tires, etc?

But you already have that, its called 2wd Open. Why can't Mod LM be a Late Model with Mod motors and DODC body rules?

2wd open is mainly for cars and trucks that dont have enough to make a class and dont fit into anything else. It can be electric or nitro.

Correct. But why does MOD have to be associated with OPEN? Why does it HAVE to be OPEN MOD? So we can have cars start looking like this?

And for what its worth I am all for building land-speed rockets and seeing how fast we can get a little toy car around a circle. I fully understand there are those who thrive on classes where there are little to no rules. Unfortunately those classes usually fade away as fast as they come around.
The Open Mod Late Model class died around here 4 - 5 years ago because it dwindled to a half dozen guys in the central Illinois area willing to race them anywhere. Those cars died just about everywhere across the country because they barely even resembled a late model at all, and since they had no eye candy appeal, they rely on the on-track racing which unfortunately lacked as well.
It has already been established that Marryville has a place for these things to run which is the Open 2wd class. If we are going to call them Late Models then I feel they should look like a current full size Late Model. I think its safe to say that a trend the last few years, not only in Dirt Oval r/c racing, but in R/C racing in general, is that the cars/trucks that resemble the full size counter-part the most become the most popular.
I have no doubt we can assemble a half dozen or so guys to run an Open Late Model class. But if thats all we can get, how long will it last? And if it is truly going to be "OPEN"... do they really have to be "Late Models", or can I attach 3 7x7 sprint car wings to a chassis and call it good?
Over the last year or two I've seen a lot of people take pride in their cars looking like a full size car down to as much detail as possible. Just because we don't have a motor rule, does that mean we need to abandon the "Model" part of the hobby and not use a body rule to keep things in the realm of sane?

The way I see it easy come easy go it's up to them to make it live I like rules too but have an open 2 wheel class they need lm class, truck ,ect and not bunch them all together Llet them see how long they can last. But in the same token it won't be good having 10 classes on a race night we won't ever get done. :yellowflag:

They can have a Open Mod class for latemodels and run they in the open class at Maryville. Just separate them in the heats.
I'm all for the slowem down real looking class, but if you can get guys interested in a class to have some fun, do it. I think after all the rules we had last year about Sprint car wings and the nice spirited talk about them, do we need to put a lot of rules on this class.
The Open Mod Latemodel class died out a couple of years ago when Allen dropped the class because of all the guys interested in running an EDM class. Well I think that EDM class died real quick. I think it was tuff running Open Mod then because the batteries had passed up the motors and you were buning brush motors up.
I think if the guys want to run them at Maryville let them run them in the Open class. If the class takes, off then separate them into their own class.

For the open late model class, i think it should be race what you bring, no matter what the motor is brushed or brushless, or even if it has a wing or not. I dont know much about the wings on them. But that's what i think. But either way ill be out there ready to have fun.
