Is practice going to be set up into practice heats? Otherwise I see no way to do practice for 550 racers and not need people in line for hours at a time??? I figure you could do 2 practice rounds a day, making for long days, but it makes the amount of track time equal for everyone...and eliminates standing in line. It will also limit the number of cars on the track at a time and many other headaches.
Just wanna know what to expect.

Good point Matt, plus we have a hard time lining up with just 100+ entries right now. Honestly there is not a lot of standing room for lines of this magnitude.

I have to disagree with the practice with your heat idea. It does keep the lines and such down but if you have a Nitro that has a plug go bad or something on the box and the time is up before you make it on the track the day is now a waste. This can go for electric if you set your car down and run one lap and break the car or want to try a different tire you are very limited on time to do this.
May I make a suggestion If you want to run 3 minutes per practice round. Why not take the total number of cars for that class divide by 7 per heat and then multiply this by 3 minutes.
For example
13.5 edm has 52 cars this would be 8 heats so why not run 24 minutes of practice for this class
13.5 Latemodel has 72 cars this would be 11 heats so they get 33 minutes of practice for this class.
etc,etc
With this you can have a round of practice every 4 hours so two to three rounds with maybe some open before and after the two rounds.
If it is set up as heats this will take longer than the above 4 hours per round because of the waiting to get guys out there before you start and waiting on the computer. (However I think that this is a good idea later in the week to check for any problems with transponders and such) So this is mainly for Tuesday practice.
However none of this will work without someone watching and handing out the clips to everyone in line waiting.
Just a suggestion!! FIRE AWAY!!

Blazing fireballs from California!!!!
No, not really, however, your way allows some people to get more practice than others and that i feel is less fair than someone unprepared for their practice heat. Its the open wheel CHAMPIONSHIPS...be prepared to run your car!!! Its not for beginners that arent smart enough to bring a new plug out with em, just in case, and if you break, you break...thats part of the game.
With this many cars, i feel it must be fair for all involved. 2 days of practice heats equals 4 guaranteed practice runs on the track. Thats all that is necessary. Bceause guess what at the end of the straightaway.....theres a left, as there is on all of our oval tracks across the nation...lol.
Bring on the heat Cisney!!!

Practice heats from Wednesday on. There's not a lot of room for a line with all the people that are going to be there. The next heat can be on their boxes checking their plugs etc... while the current heat is on the track. Much less chaos than the line & clip system.

Sounds good but who will tell the guy who's out there for 6 minutes and 4 of them were doing donuts to get off the track?

Me to & it shows!
Seriously, we have to think of the big picture. With lines way too long the fire marshall would have a field day! :( We need to devise a suitable plan, & heats may not seem the best, but there are very reasonable. You could always have someone trackside to change a tire, plug, body, battery, etc.

Well heck I like donuts too. In the meantime I think we should do all practice by heats so to keep everybody from using too much track time. Keep it even like Matt says.

Ok guys, here we go again ! If im not mistaken, @ last years OW we had practice sessions by class. As the people lined up ( I know room is an issue ) 8 drivers were allowed on the track @ a time for 2 minutes then the next 8 & so on & so forth till everyone got there 2 minutes of fame to win practice:checkeredflag:. I know my memory isn't what it used to be, but I think it worked pretty well & we all got @ least 2 sessions, maybe 3.
For instance, say there are 72 13.5 LM's, that would be 9/2minute heats that should only take 30 minutes tops & thats w/a min inbetween to change drivers. There are 7 classes that don't have that many entries in all (I picked 13.5 LM because its the largest class), so a round of practice using this formula would take an avarage of 3&1/2 hrs. Yes, someone would have to police this, but im sure w/all the able bodies @ this event we can make it work.
Now, go ahead, Matt & Jeff, FIRE AWAY

Dustin,
It all depends on how good the chassis is...If its 2 tenths better, then Id say your ahead of the curve!

I'll spare you guys all of this typing and tell you that the practice schedule is all but done and will be posted in the next day or two. For now everyone can plan on being at the track Tuesday morning when the doors open at 8 am. Practice will begin sometime after that in one form or another, how does that sound. Seriously guys I have been working with Chris for the better part of the last 2 months on several concerns including this one. Im pretty sure the format we have for practice will work just fine and will be FAIR for everyone. This isn't our first Rodeo, lol. For those who need to know what to expect, you can expect to have practice beginning tuesday.
More info coming soon!
