No. oval racing is done but just for the winter hoprfully. Scott is changing it over to off-road now. But hopefully he makes that fun oval to race on next season.

You guys could aways jump over to Joplin, MO for some outdoor loose dirt oval racing. The NSCS series finals are this Saturday at 3pm. Terry also has a race in October and the 2nd Annual Fall Bash on November 7th. Its only three races but you could get some more oval racing in before the snow flies.

I'd like to take just a minute to bring to the attention of the "dirt oval nuts" like myself that the turn outs at SMACTRAC this year for dirt oval was really poor. Scott worked very hard at setting up the track and was next to anal in maintaining it. It was always smooth and well groomed. I believe I was at least partially instrumental in getting him to switch to dirt oval for the summer because I suck soooo bad at off road, but I'm worried that next year there may not be a local indoor dirt oval track.

If you are interested in Scott trying again next summer I believe it will take some convincing on the racers part to get it done. Unless we can convince Scott that it would be worth his while to do all the work involved and spend the time away from his family I don't think it will happen. If you want it opened next summer let him know. If not I guess I will continue to suck at off road, but now do it all year round.:(

I think the best thing to do would be move the race days to saturday. Unfortunatly it would clash with maryville but mabey run early so folks could do a double header if they want.

Mabey around march pass out a free oval race pass to the off road crowd. This could help get some to try it at least.

Nah... that would create too many conflicts, like making sure one got done in time to make it to the other, & that would ultimately lead to a division of the loyal /passionate oval racers...car counts at both tracks would suffer. I think THE biggest issue was that most oval racers around here are used to running on buggy tires, not foams. Start the season & run the whole season on the tires that the majority of current oval racers in the area run on. Scott was very classy this season by taking the time to race at the "other tracks", hopefully more people will recriprocate that. Wednsday nights & Sunday afternoons, (to accomodate people with family time/church) will work. Unfortunately, the car count will never rival the winter offroad crowd since in the summer, there are many tracks racing + a host of other outdoor activities going on. The people who love to race oval need to come out & support the local track if they want to continue to have a place to race...PERIOD, (myself included!!!) My only other thought would be a once a month money/prize race to help stimulate the car count. For some weird reason, if I know there is possibility I could win $ or a Spektrum Micro reciever, or a set of tires, or even a t-shirt, I usually make that race,(as well as a race there before to get "tuned up") a prioroty to attend.

Yea I agree, moving to Saturday's would completely kill any chance of decent as entries as I think (at least at first) the majority of your entries will come from guys racing at Marryville.

I was hoping to make it down at least once when it got changed to loose dirt, but with all the big races up here over the last month or two it was tough. I'm actually looking forward to coming down on occassion to run off-road some.

The fact that the track started the year as a foam track didn't help. I think now that Scott as gotten into the loose dirt racing that will help draw some existing dirt oval guys next year. Some other things you can do to improve the oval turnout is to promote the more inexpensive classes for the weekly off-road guys to get into. Classes like the Losi Mini LM and the MDM class Marryville started are two of the cheapest classes, especially since the off-road guys can jump into the MDM class with minimal changes to their existing car. Hopefully next year the rules for the MDM can be tweaked to better accommodate both the off-road racers as well as existing oval racers to help build the class.

Having something like 100 - 150 entries a week on off-road will be nearly impossible to match with the oval, but if you can do things to make it relatively inexpensive for the off-road guy to jump into oval then it will help.
