Mother nature played a dirty trick on Big Bills, but thanks to all that helped to finally get the track in shape for some really good racing.

Thanks to Bill and his wife, super hosts, food was great and the hobby shop was very well stocked with all the parts dirt oval racers might want.

Thanks to Eugene for getting this thing rolling.
Thanks to my pit buddies and to Dustin Malicoat, Sonny Brown and Rob Mulvaney for all their help.

I had a great time and really enjoyed all the company; Racers are a great group of people to hang out with and with all the rain delay and track prep there was a lot of time to hang, no one's fault, just takes time.

Can't wait till the King of the Wings.

Thanks again.

I was there...Awesome Job by the guys at Big Bills...putting it all together. Big Bill and his place are top notch!!! As for the Backlash cars being the ticket....Not The tickets was the guys that showed up with the foam tires. Any car out there had a distinct advantage...The car had nothing to do with it. I got into this because..It was a cheap no tire war kinda racing....I've been doing this r/c stuff for 26 years. I seen it happen to the 1/10th scale sedans. Tires are 60% of the set-up...You got the tires your gonna go fast. Congrates to the real winner....Mikey Dibb. He did it the way it was suppose to be done....on rubber tires. I can't wait to see where this goes.

I to would like to say thank you to Bill his family ,Eugene ,and the volunteers they had in the shop . Got home at around 8am this morning. with all that was encounted from the rain, pa system and the issues with the computer .A total of 59 heat races plus how ever many mains in 13.5 hour not bad. The with a car count of 225 was amazing. This is the biggest event I personally have been to to date. :checkeredflag:

Thanks A Bunch

Looks some people were prepared and some wasnt ....If I was running a big race I would run the tire that worked best also ......I dont guess I see the advantage/disadvantage of the tire deal ....Foams are readily available as well as the rubber tire ....

Great Race Weekend! Wow! What a great job of getting the show in. I was amazed at the crew and their get er done attitude! What a job to get that track ready in less than 24 hours from a swampy mess to a fun race track. Bill and Eugene deserve a Big Atta Boy along with everyone that pitched in to help. Great Job!

Also the crew in the Hobby Shack deserve some kudos! That HAD to have been a long day / night for everyone to keep food hot and good.

Special thanks out to the Custom Works crew. Arnie and everyone with Custom Works were a HUGE help to me. They spent a lot of time with me talking about setup and sprint cars while looking my car over. I even learned a little bit in the mean time. Matt "Murphdog" Murphy - Huge Thanks to you for giving your time to me during my heat and giving me a car that pretty much drove itself around the track. Matt coached me through my heat rather than spend time on his own car! Wow! I almost felt guilty for taking up that much of his time. I'm just sorry that I couldn't stick around for the Mains. It truly was a great car.

Wolfman - Big thanks out to you for the diff rebuild! Its smoooooooth. Gave me two tenths on the track! See me at the King for pics.

Scotchbrite - thanks for the posing for the pics. You'll know what I mean soon enough... lol

Bandit Trackside Photos had a great turn out and we thank all of you that came over and looked at our stuff. We'll be getting pics out this week. Watch the mail or email and let us know what you think. Satisfaction guaranteed! We'll be at the Custom Works King of the Wings at Allen's place coming up in a couple of weeks. Hope to see everyone there. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate for Allen and we'll have another night of Fast Racing in Central Illinois!

Shane, I think there was 4 backlash cars in the A main. As far as the tires and not the car...I'll leave that one alone for now. I've seen the Backlash cars first hand and yes, the car works and I've been at this sport since '86!!!

If it was a situation that somebody had something that noone could get then yes I would be upset also but this was not that situation. Mike Dibb came to my trailer during the mains and looked at my car and Mike Ottinger's car and told us plain as day that he was not going to run on foams, he was going to stay on rubber tires. That was his choice. I called Big Bill and asked if they run on foams and if they were legal and he said you can run on rubber or foam. I am sorry that you feel the way you do but it is over and done. Mike Dibb is a class act. He is a very good racer and a very fast one also. I enjoy racing with him each time we are at the same track.

Thanks to Big Bill's and al of the hard effort that was put into the event. Especially after the horendous rain we had and the track prep.

A big thumbs up to all of the Backlash customers that were there. I am very happy for all you do and thank you for your efforts on making this car a success.

Just wanted too say thanks to Big Bill for allowing me to sell motor's in his shop, and to Eugene for the great effort put out to give the racers a track to compete on after the down fall of rain, and thanks to everone else who worked on the track to get it going.

This was my first ONS race to compete in and it was awesome, special thanks to Hollywood Hoskins for the chilled pit space, Also thanks to Bryan Klamer, i did a EXTECH .21 for him a while back, and i was lucky he had that motor at the race, i was able to run it in the Amain and it was great, the motor i planed on running was just to fresh and tight lol. Tim, thanks for the fast car:thumbsup:

Thanks to everyone that showed up and stuck it out, it was fun talking with everyone and overall the weekend was well worth it.

I had a great time and learned more this weekend than I have in a long time. Big thanks to Bill for having this race along with Eugene and all supporting people to make the event a success.
Cant believe I did better in my sprint than my late model but Im driving a great sprint car. I know what I need to bring to make the late A next year though.

Pro Twister Mods/Brian Carey. This guys engines are amazing but more importantly he is a genuinely good person and I cannot thank him enough for what he did with my engine this weekend. My engine business will not be done anywhere but with Pro Twister.

Matt and Allen, thanks for helping me out with the ball cup.

Tim and Mike it was great to meet with and have a conversation with you. < These are guys innovating with intelligence and any time you can spend listening to them will only better you.

Brad thanks for the passing the door prize along, I will put them to good use, those springs were on my to buy really soon list lol!

Hope I didnt miss anyone, I got to meet a lot of people from the forum and am glad to have done so..

BadFast your right on target. I had the springs that came with my car and couldn't make it work very good. I know they had springs on the hobby shop wall but I don't like a spring war. I also couldn't make my car fast enough with the motor that I had OS .21VG I know they allowed motors up to .28 and they had them in the hobby shop but I don't like a motor war. I tuned my own motor instead of having an experienced motor man tune my motor, I don't like a motor tuner war. The body I chose for my car wansn't the best handling body and I know they had different ones on the wall in the hobby shop, but I don't like a body war. I left the steel bearings in my car and they slowed me down, I know I could have put ceramic bearings in my car but I don't like a bearing war. My OFNA came with spec rubber tires, I ran them even though they were burn up after 2 weekends of racing. Tim McNut offered me a used set of foams with 3 weekends of racing on them and they still looked new but I didn't take them because I don't like a tire war. I think I'm going back to the box stock Losi Slider class. You can't change a thing and everyone's car looks just alike. I wonder if I will have to make any adjustments on it though?

Nice Event Euguene!

I would like to thank all of the people that were involved in this event. When I left Friday night and returned Saturday morning Mike and I were all set to pack up and leave. I was very amazed at how well they got the track after it had looked like a freshly tilled garden. Thanks Eugene and Big Bill.

Thanks to all of the girls at the snack bar for the Porkchop sandwiches. I waited 2 yrs for those and I was not disappointed.

Thanks to Arnie Fie for the picture from Friday night. If you didn't see it then you missed out on a great laugh.

Special Thanks goes out to my sponsors: OHP-RC4Less-Futaba-Byrons Fuel-Hyperdrive-Sinister Mods-C&M Race Bodies by Ott's Speed Shop. That body is just the best balanced body and the most realistic body on the market.

I hope everyone made it back safely. We struggled getting back home. Staying up for 37.5 hours is very hard on a person. I slept 14hrs to try and catch up but that is not going to happen.

Thanks to Donie Victor for the ONS series. Hope to make it to the next one in PA.

where does the FAST GUY's line get cut 1st -2nd or 1st -5th or what, i ask because i ran the same tires that where on the wall, only they were used in the FIRST ONS Race at music city, then used at the Family ONS race, and i have used them 2 or 3 times at our reg club races, are you saying i would have gotton 3rd or second if i had the same foam's as the FAST guy's.

We had a blast at the ONS race in IL. Thanks to Donnie Victor for offering a competitive series of events. Also, thanks to Big Bill for providing an awesome facility, and Eugene for makin it all happen. The people who worked in and ran the concession stands provided some great food, and we really enjoyed the 70's and 80's music. Thanks to all the racers for supporting the sport.

Special thanks to Bruce at RC4Less for tires and springs to helps us have the best set-ups, Tim McNutt for the awesone Backlash car, Darrin Numbers at Sinister Mods for killer HP, Barry & Dustin at Hyperdrive-GFRP, and C & M Bodies by Otts Speed Shop.

I made the fastest lap times in the 8th scale class with RC4Less foam tires, which were available in the hobby shop. RC4Less tires, Sinister Mods and C&M Bodies took my Backlash car to the front.

Tim McNutt TQ'd, and broke the track record by 3 laps in the A-main with the C&M 'Atomic' body. Special thanks to Tim for choosing C&M Bodies. C&M Bodies are the most realistic bodies on the market, and had more bodies in the A-Main than any other Body. Thanks to all the racers who have chosen to run an win with C&M bodies .

This class was made for the cars to run on rubber tires. Yes mike is a class act. The foams they were running were available to me too....I wasn't going to run them either. That was my choice too. Still had fun... Big Bill and Eugene are a class act also..they bend over backards to please everyone,Even tho that is never possibleCongrats to Stan Willis for putting on a great show of driving skills... He won five mains with a Losi right front tire and foams on the other three. What ever it takes... Right? Stan... LOL

I would like to thank big bill and e for all their efforts to make this race better and better each year, and it has.It was great to see all my racer buds and gave me hope that even though things dont always go your way,any day of racing is better than work. Thanks Josh Howard for your help this weekend,I probably would have had to drop a few classes if you didnt.Wish I could have been a factor, but the racing gods cursed me with bad ju-ju all weekend, but I still had a great time.Congrats to all the winners, and the great showing from my local guys at their first big race.To the guy complaining about the WARS,get a clue dude,1/8 LM were not designed to be a spec class. They are supposed to be the biggest fastest slideways class out there.Better get you a slash!!!As for the guy complaining about the tires,I was there and had several sets I would have sold in different choices of compounds rc4less and bsr,I had my pits right next to the hobby shop and had many people inquire if I had some for sale and told them I would if the hobby shop didnt have any left.Everyone knows me and that I usually have extras over and above what I need.So tires were available.Hope to see everyone KOW weekend and look forward to better racing luck lol:thumbsup: Hope some of you will come to MUSIC CITY in october for the 2nd annual FAWL BRAWL in CASHVILLE:revs::trophy::checkeredflag:

i agree with badfast, atta boy Mike Dibb ! foam tires ??? thought this class was designed to resemble the real deal ?? rubber tires etc. guess not ?? my first time to a big event and it was a long weekend, but awesome. yes mother nature changed the ordeal. thanks to everyones help as i asked a lot of dumb questions lol. seems like there should be two 1/8 late model classes. the real class with rubber tires and no side dam, then the virtual class with fake foam tires or ? and the big left helper wing. just my opinion. thanks big bill

If this was the real deal then we would not be running 4 wheel drive cars either. Lets not start with the more class thing. The track was in a situation that you could run either foam or rubber. I made a choice and ran foams. I didn't tell everyone to run them. Mike had a choice and chose to run rubber. I ran on rubber tires all day on Friday because the track was not right for foams. Saturday was another story. I went out in practice twice. Once on rubber and once on foams. I chose foams because the car felt better. I do think that the 8 scale class was an OPEN class. And open rules has the sidedam at Bill's.

Matt Murphy
August 11th, 2009, 4:36 PM
From the announcement of this race, the posted rules have said 8th scales may run foam or rubber tires. Many people said foams do not work at Bills. Allan Webster and I brought Foams, Losi rubber, and OFNA rubber. We ran rubber tires all weekend until we looked at the track and decided to run foams during qualifying.

Mike Dibb was very fast on rubber tires. That being said, the rules gave every driver the option of tire selection. Had the race been rubber only, Mike may have won. However, Ottinger and McNutt were also ballistic when running rubber tires.

I believe that alot of people do not understand that this race allowed both types of tires. If they did know this, why are they crying about being beat by foam tires?

This is also a great example of why there may never be a national set of rules for 8th scales. They made a rules package, and if you showed up to race, that means you accepted them. Why now are you complaining after the fact?

Allan and I come from California to race with the best in the country. No matter what the race is, you make the rules, and we will make our cars legal by your rules.

We dont exactly like the route the class is heading. One-ways, Offset chassis, touring car shocks, super high dollar engines, etc. The fast guys run them, so everybody thinks you need them to go fast.

We ran Losi race roller L8 models. Finished 2nd and 5th respectively with Stock vehicles. Our aftermarket additions to the cars included using Losi's high rate spring set and different sway bars. Our goal was to see if you can compete without the exotic parts, and I believe we showed that you can.

I dont understand why people are complaining about tires, which were stated legal at the first announcement of the race, yet do not complain about the rising costs of exotic chassis and parts?

What sounds better for our hobby? $400 kits you can show up and compete with, or buy a $400 kit, then scrap half of it, buy an aftermarket $120 chassis, $150 one way, $60 for tc shocks and $40 for the towers, and whatever other mods people are doing?

Now here is the disclaimer. I consider Chad Smith and Tim McNutt friends. I am not trying to bash them. They make great products and fast cars. They are businessmen offering products to racers, and are successful at what they do. I know some of you will flame me for my statements here.

Heres what i dont understand... we wanna run rubber tires so they are realistic?!? OK when hoosier makes us tires with different stagger and we can adjust pressure, I will jump on the bandwagon. Also when full scale DLM's are 4wd with 4 wheel independent suspensions...And when they run single cylinder engines on Nitromethane... Lets just accept that our cars are not scale replicas of real DLM's. However they are about as close as we can get in looks, performance, and handling.

OMFG, calm down people , just gave my opinion as a new racer trying to run a late model class, without blowing tons of money on differ tires etc. to compete with sponsored guys. i bought a car kit in the understanding that the only tires to be run in the late class would be the losi or the ofna. so now i learned a big lesson. tmr22 lighten up lil buckaroo, just my opinon as a newbie

Rumor is he was blinded from the saliva in his eye from the night before. I'm pretty sure he won't look at another California woman the same ever again. lol

I too will thank everyone that were instrumental in getting the track ready on Saturday to be able to do any racing as early as we did. Thanks also Bill and Eugene for puttin gon the event. Despite the weather and extremely long day... the racing was still really good.

I also have to thank Arnie, Sonny, and Chad Smith for their help on my Nitro Sprinter. Especially Sonny for helping tuning the carb all day raceday on my Dynamite Platinum .12 motor. I would have never expected to qualify 2nd and finish 4th on the first time out with that car after not only finishing putting it together last week, but only being able to break it in mildly Thursday night and only getting two quick practice session with it during the weekend. That motor was not only easy to tune, but it never gave me issues trying to start it up plus it ran great on the track.

Was also nice to meet Nick, Matt, Max, Allan, and several other Custom Works drivers this weekend. Had a blast racing with you guys and can't wait til Labor Day weekend!

WOW!!! I really didn't want to comment on any of this BUT, This should not be a thread arguing foam and rubber, everyone fully knew the rules and I was even told of the BSR tires before I came down there and choose not to right then and there. Even right before the A main on Sun. my good friend Mr. Smith had his foams in his hand to let me use and still knowing they would be better I turned it down. That is not the tires fault. I personally chose not to go down that road. I am very happy with how I did and Tim and Mike were plain ole haulin congratulations to them.

This thread is about congrats to the winners and the guys getting the program done and the girls keeping us fat. Lets keep it that way.

Sure are.......I bought mine off ebay for $275 NIB.......installed 2 servos and my engine.......on the track and finished 5th in the B-main.......if I could get it to turn a lil more........I'd be fine.......and it has no short shocks, no trick chassis, no trick diffs, nothing.......

Of course CHEAP is a relative term anyway......my nitro sprint cost as much, or more, as my SLM (super late model) to get up and runnin on the track. I know this was a sarcastic comment but I believe you can get into SLM's for cheap.......compared to that $6,000,000 LearJet I am wanting to get into........

I did not see a post or hear anything in the drivers meeting, so I wanted to thank the Maryville track crew (Cliff & Mouse) for stepping up to help prep the track on Saturday. Even after the critism that they received on their forum for their hard work last week at Maryville, they did not even hesitate to help out a fellow track!
I had a great time despite all of the problems that I had and that the track had. I wish that I could have run on the track before it rained, 'cause it looked SMOOTH! I am gonna have to get back up to Bill's again soon, this track is amazing. Even with the bumps that we had after the track was quickly transformed from a swamp back into a track, the traction was great and it stayed consistant from daylight into the night and even back into the daylight again.
Congrats to all of the winners and to Bill for a great facility! This was one that we will never forget.

If there is any question as to the level and depth of talent that was at this race...look at the "fast lap" times in any of the lower mains compared to the A's. Impressive. :checkeredflag:

And....you might look at Mr. Dibbs lap times before giving too much credit to the foam tires. Awesome recovery after getting dumped at the start tone Mikey.

Congrats to all the winners and a huge thanks to everyone that had anything to do with the program. Now that I've had some sleep I can look back and say it was truely an enjoyable event, Sunday morning I wasn't so sure!

Special thanks to Steve and Cliff (Maryville) for helping get the track raceable again, as well as all the other guys that pitched in to help. A big thanks to Eugene for promoting this race - due to his hard work, it has grown every year. Special thanks to all our sponsors - without them the race would be much harder to put on. There were 25 sponsors that you posted that were going to support the race with door prizes and such. You stated only a small number that did...what happened to the others.

Many people go to races and look forward to these door prizes. I'm not faulting Big Bills, Eugene or any people that did do something for the racers, I'm faulting the people that say" Yeah I'll be a sponsor, post my name on the Web, and mention my generosity at the track, then I'll stiff you..he he"

Chad,

Some people may have been listed as a sponser but didn't sign up to give away door prizes.
Our part was making the plaques for 'the fast guys'. As luck would have it, I even got to take one home :D

I'm not sure who may not have fullfilled their obligation, but I would hope they did in some way and maybe just not mentioned 'again'.

Since there were no dashes run I was going to give out door prizes. I don't carry any packaged parts to the tracks 90% of the time. So that was even a tough one to try to do. So instead there were 4 different guys that came over that had HD cars that needed some parts that Bill didn't have in the shop. I hooked them all up with some free stuff. I don't think we are going to try to sponsor dashes anymore. Every time we do we get rain or there is a threat for rain and they get skipped.

Donnie Morgan was also running a stock Losi in the A main. I run a Losi Backlash with every conceivable option on it , and Donnie is just as fast or faster with his stock car?

I gave away a free wrap to person that finished dead last in the 8 scale class. I feel that if a person came to race and had enough problems to be last on the day then I feel he deserves a little something for his efforts. That prize went to Roger Moore. I have been in contact with him and I will get his prize done for him soon.

How much was the payout for the ONS racers? I know you only pay out 1st and 2nd place but how much did McNutt get for winning?

Just wondering, I know a few guys have asked what the pay out was........

Thanks

Eugene I got $200 for the win and $100 from Rob for the bumper bonus.

I had what some would call a less than steller weekend, I spent so much time getting my peep's gear going and help maintaining them i was not able to focus on my own stuff on top of getting my race motor broke in enough, Some how for my first heat i had a rock wedged inbetween the right front suspension arm and the car was horoble, couldn't turn in a 10 acre field, get everything cleaned up then Jamie has catostrphic front end explsion when his reciever pack comes loose, lol all he was thinking when the car did a reverse runaway was MY MOTOR, lol and all i thought was ogh man here comes alot of work lol but to my suprise the Backlash chassis held up and all we had to fix was the hing pin.

My second heat i went out on rubber and did pretty good and it put me in the B, i was stoked about that considering the events that transpired, on top of tosing in a .21 for the amain, the motor was awesome, the Backlash was awesome. Tim offers great support and set up help to his customers, the more i seem to free up the car the faster i get with it, the looser the car the faster i go with it, it suits my drving style much better than the oem chassis.

This was my set up that got me 4th in the A

Jamie, give the prize to someone in the lower mains. It would give them a little better feeling that they came back with something after a rough weekend.

Bandit Trackside Photos walked around looking at cars and gave our Photo Shoot to Tom Sagle. His sponsor BlueCat Cafe caught our eye and his wrap looked kewl! It looked like a late night and we wanted to get our prize to someone before it got too late. I'll post a copy later. Thanks again to everyone that stopped by to support us or to just look at our stuff. We appreciate the compliments. I had a couple of late nights getting everyones stuff done, but they are complete and out in the mail for those of you looking. The wraps and paint jobs keep getting better and better. Everyone is starting to pay attention to the look of their cars. We hope to make a photo that grabs everyone's attention when they walk into your living room and see it prominently displayed on the Mantle Piece. lol... Anyway, we are gearing up for Allen's King of the Wings race in a couple of weeks. This looks to be the last good chance to shine em up and get a shoot done. Come by and see us. If you have a special idea, let us know, we may be able to make it happen - just no Blues Hockey stuff - right Jason?

Again, Congrats to all of the winners, and a big thank you to Big Bill, Eugene, Debbie and everyone that made this happen. It was a weekend we'll all remember and talk about how we were there... :revs:

OMFG, calm down people , just gave my opinion as a new racer trying to run a late model class, without blowing tons of money on differ tires etc. to compete with sponsored guys. i bought a car kit in the understanding that the only tires to be run in the late class would be the losi or the ofna. so now i learned a big lesson. tmr22 lighten up lil buckaroo, just my opinon as a newbie

Bob, The car was setup at one time by me but it had some different shock towers and shocks on it and it will not drive like mine with those pieces on it.

Well I had fun and it really stinks to see the excuse bs posted as to why this person and that person didnt finish here or there. I read the rules, I didnt bring foams, I will next year. I brought a worn out engine, I wont next year lol. Just a learning experience for me, I have never ran a clay track nor a side dam. The rules were open and thats that, why complain, if you cant afford to run the open class leave it at the house, its that simple, OR, I know this sounds crazy but just bring what you have and ,OMG, have fun driving your RC car on a kick ass race track for Gods sake!
I cannot wait to run again at an ONS event and return to Big Bills track.
