Mouse,Cliff. What time will the track open Saturday for practice thanks.

From a post elsewhere on DODC

Looks like we are going to go with the same start time and format as we did at Allens. Racing starting at 5:00

Practice 3:00 to 4:30 then drivers meeting. 2 minute clock. Top 4 corner marshall. Drivers be ready for next race. Also Mark Daniels is coming down to help out. We know he does'nt mind pissing people off :D So be ready LOL. GL to all and hope to cyas there.

Any questions contact me or Cliff on here or call us. My cell# 618-779-5208 Cliffs is 618-977-1380 Thanks......Mouse

So it looks like there will be about 40 cars on the track at all times......90-100 entries with 1.5 hrs of practice.......should be killer.

Rain is letting up and they are uncovering the track at 3:45 should be a great night of racing!!!

Ben Giles

"should" be a great night.......Ben, however........

When you show up to a race you expect to be treated like everyone else......No favorites.....but in the 4 track series that don't seem to matter......

Stacked heat, better track prep, etc.....there is no way luck would put all the same "front runners" in the same heat all three races.........and right after the track was watered......

Race one.......it was ok to have Gyro's, 5 out of the 6 who qualified for the a-main were all in the first heat......track was watered before the race began, by race 4 (first qualifier of sprints) the track was as good as it could be......but, by race 11-12 the track was a desert.

Race 2 in the series, 3-4 of the same front runners were AGAIN in the first heat........best track conditions and stacked heats........

Race 3......guess what? Yep.......the same 3-4 guys are once AGAIN in the first heat of sprints, race 9.......(closest to the watered track) But guess what.....track was kinda looking dry for the 13.5 cars so we watered at race 7.......luck? I doubt it.......the chosen few were up in 2 races......perfect timing.......No one is that lucky.....right before race 13 someone decided that the track needed some loose dirt thrown right on top of the back stretch.......marbles all on top making the back stretch lose as heck.......and here was the reasoning........."oh, it'll will sling right off there" well it was on there the whole race.......nice. But the best thing was the 2 minutes of practice we received. I understand that it rained, but 2 minutes? We could have started 30 minutes later couldn't we?

I know I will be slammed for posting this and that is fine.......I guess the only thing that concerns me is the fairness, or lack thereof, in the series races so far this year......Tell me this.........is it fair for a guy to run a 6x6 wing against everyone else running 7x7's? He had a 1/2" spoiler on his 6x6 wing but was told he had to remove the added on spoiler cause the rules said no added spoiler? Serious? So, if it was all one piece, it would have been fine? Call it crybabying or whatever you want........but all I ask is for someone to look back on the series and ask yourself, "have we done the best we can do?" Well if that is the best we can do........I have about $8-10,000 worth of r/c stuff for sale........

P.S. If someone goes through tech and their car passes all the measuring devices and is deemed legal........how is it that when said truck set's first round TQ, all the sudden is rear spoiler is not legal? It says in the rules, "rear spoiler permitted" what does that mean? As long as you don't TQ with that said spoiler? Unreal.........

Let the hammering begin, but remember, how do you want to be treated? Fair or Unfair? Deal or No Deal.........

Sorry series track owners but if the truth hurts.......take a step back and look at it from someone else's point of view.......

Congrats to my friend John Faris. 2 minutes of practice on a track that was new to us, and raced every race without a crutch. Congrats to Andrew as well.

I was amazed how easy it is to tell if a car has a gyro if you try.

1. Watch for a car that is on track and is in the process of setting a fast time.
2. Look at said car and observe the following:
A: Front wheels shaking violently from right to left as car speeds flawlessly around.
B: Front wheels locked in one position for duration of turn.

A= gyro B=actually driving car

It was pretty obvious to anyone who took notice.

The unwritten rule states one must remove the gyro after securing a spot in a better main, as the severe steering servo glitching went away on every car later in the evening. I would never call anyone out over it, and I did not see it in any of the mains. I just found it amusing how odd it looked.

So who had the gyro in it this week? Every week people claim someone has a gyro in their car, but no one ever says who. If you are that sure someone had one then just say who so it can be stopped. This method for telling if someone had one or not is bull$hit. If your car is loose, you have to countersteer otherwise you will spin out. The only way to know for sure if someone has a gyro in their car is to look and find it. They looked for gyro's in the sprint top 3 at Allen's, I didn't see if they looked at the top 3 last night but I don't think any of them had one.

In any case... Some great racing in the sprint A main. Congrats Ed on his win! Solid car all night.

Let's see,,,Since I set fast time for the day,,,the "cheater must be me" NOT

I like ya Keith,,,,but those accusations are unfounded, don't be a puppet. If you want to know something come and ask me. My car does not sit with a towel over it to HIDE anything, 15 or 20 people came over and looked it over during the night,,,you could have also.
As far as Gyro's go,,,,I could not even afford one,,,nor would I have one.
I really love this series with great competition, and fun.

But I am the last person that would ever condone cheating...ask around, it has cost me some good friends. I just hate that crap,,,beat me heads up, and I will tell you good race.

I have the pleasure of pitting with some FAST COMPANY. Chris had a couple good ideas for my car and it loved it. Just wish the first round would have been cleaner.

Congrads to ED , long time coming. Minus the start of the race the A was great, even with me left broken and stuck watching.

How come its always someone cheating? Never, I had a bad run.... I have had some bad runs in the points race and the only person i can blame is me. The gyro thing? Get over it, nobody is using them, they are looking for them in tech, and not being found. They teched the top 3 cars after the race... guess what. 0 gyros.

Ed ran good all night, big congrats to him.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Kyle Busch errr.... Cliff, remember 2nd place points are better than 5th(i can't say i wouldnt' have done the same thing though, probably with the same turnout:D) Good run though

This stuff is supposed to be fun,if your leaving a race pissed off, then why do it? Its a hobby. Not the World of Outlaws. We don't make a living doing this.

I don't think this is pointed at me but just in case.......I never said ANYONE was cheating........I know my car sucked and told everyone so.......just couldn't get a hold on the track......I think I used vegetable oil on my tires instead of simple green.

It must be somewhat fun or I wouldn't have raced wed, thur, fri, and saturday this week. But on the other hand, No we don't make a living at this but if you are putting your hard earned money into something that is supposed to be fun........it's nice to think that everyone and everything will be equal between all involved. And I know I wasn't the one that was mad/upset when I left......quite the opposite.......I was very happy and ready to go........even the cops on the way home were fair......we didn't speed and they didn't pull us over......fair enough for me....

I read it last night. I do agree with a couple of things.

It did suck that I only had 2 minutes of practice, but everybody only had 2 minutes.

I wasn't quite sure about the way the wet back straight was dealt with at the time, but it wasn't that bad and they did the best they could considering the rain we had. The first round was the best I have ever seen the track.

Stacked heats.
Well nobody is ever happy with heat setups.

Track prep.
Well it seemed at Allen's race a couple of guys might have been a little upset about having to run through the wet spots after watering right before the first heat of sprints. I was in the last heat and thought I was going to have to run on a hard dry track. I think you and Corns got to run a really good track in the second heat, with a good group of racers for the first 2 rounds.

Gyros.
Well if they were used, it was nice that they were outlawed and tech checks for them instead of everybody having to get them.

The wing tech with the guy that had the 6 inch wing.
Well I personally think there are way too many rules with the wings on Sprint cars. I have to agree with you and Double D on that one.

Mr. Hennig.
I was watching from turn 2 and have no idea what you are talking about.
I had a great time racing with your son in the c-main.
I do agree with one part of your post though.

MiniT21
August 2nd, 2009, 4:28 PM
On the 6" wing thing, i was standing right there when Bill told him he could run his added spoiler, as long as it was not bent. I did not see the first one he had on it, but Bill said that it was not a flat piece of lexan, and as long as he straightened it out he could use it.

Eugene that wasn't pointed at you directly, it was pointed at anybody who keeps bringing up the gyros. I do agree though, If they are being used by people finishing out of the tech spots and its not being caught in the initial tech(whether its because they put it in afterwards or whatever else), that it sucks for the rest of us actually following the rules. All i know is i follow every rules to its limits, but never over. That way i feel better about myself when i go home. Whether i win or finish last in the Q main. I know my car was right.

I agree with Mike on the stacked heats thing, nobody is ever gonna be happy about the heats. But Shearburn has been almost a lap ahead of all of us in qualifying all year long. He would have TQ'd whether he was in the 9th heat or the 49th heat. The track was conistent for everything after the first round. But anybody who races maryville more than once knows that the first round is always the most important round. Never fails the top 5 cars always qualify that way in the first round. (with a few exceptions here and there)

2 minutes of practice? I didn't even get that, i ran 1 minute to make sure the new motor wasn't gonna over heat quickly, and coasted around the rest of the time. If we would have moved it back 30 minutes later to allow for more practice then people would have complained about being there all night. So as we all know, you can never please everybody.

Sonny B
August 2nd, 2009, 4:47 PM
Congrats to Ed on the win. Sounds like I missed a good one.

Thanks to the Maryville crew for getting the track in race-able condition after the rain.

My car was a little off but I still had a good time. I was not feeling well and getting tired so I took off before the mains. Wish the track was closer as I hate that 3hr ride.

Thanks Wolfie for the set-up help and the loaner tires.

On the gyro issue (which I really think is a non issue as it does not help) if you think someone is using one say something to the tech official. I'm sure they will be happy to check it out.

As for the Heat set-up it was pretty simple to figure out. The heats were setup by the way the names were entered into the computer. This is a default setting in the software. (Example: Chris signed up just before Rob. I asked Rob to sign me up as well becuase I was running late. The heats pretty much set up they way the are entered with the exception of Frqy. conflicts. This was not done intentionally it's just they way sign up happened. If that was the case they would of picked a few other cars to be in the super fast heat. (Heck they probably would have kicked me out..LOL). Having run a race or two on this software I was aware of this. That is why at BRL races I had racers draw a numbered chip to sort the qualifiers. If the series directors would like to do this I have the chips that I would be happy to donate.

See everyone at Bill's this week and on labor day weekend for the King of the Wings.

CShearburn
August 2nd, 2009, 5:18 PM
I like the idea of sorting the heats in reverse order of points after Race #1, or use a 2 minute practice session as a qualifying session and sort based on fastest lap. It may also be worth a try to total points for each heat to set the mains instead of just the fastest single run. Then again it will still benefit cars that are on a better track.

Unfortunately in dirt racing its tough to keep the track exactly the same all night. And if it was, it would be less challenging and (in my opinion) less fun.

I wish everyone would understand this is a site for everyone to see that has the internet. Do you think making negative posts and arguing over things is helping the hobby or the area? How about bringing positive attitudes towards having a good time, isnt that what its all about? Pull your skirts up and just race and have a good time. All the crying drives people away. It's entertaining to read about people crying though. This isnt a 40 hour a week gig.

Does the truth hurt anything? If you don't wanna read it, watch the History channel or something. It's called constructive criticism. It's not called arguing, it's called discussing what happened and how to improve. Don't we wanna improve this series over the years to come? Then what is wrong with asking questions about how and why things were handled the way they were?

If the truth hurts........keep hiding from your fears......ask the guys who showed up to race and then decided to go back home instead, why they left without unloading? Or just keep covering up for the slackers, like at your work, keep doing his work for him and things will never change......he will always have someone to cover for him and just "get by".

Having a positive attitude must be what I'm lacking I guess......or does that just make it easier for you to handle the truth? I hope you aren't the "slacker" at work.......hmmmmmm? I wonder.....

I think they was ALL cheatun last night. First they interupted my saturday night bath wantin money, said I had to sign up too. IMAGIN THAT. I thought they was punishn me by makin me start last. After all I was the first one there.I started working on the track friday morning,I got witneses. The reason I throwed dirt on the wet spots when I did was because it forms a crust the cars can run on but the corner marshals cant. When that happens sticky mud builds quickly on the car. I have burned up motors and batteries at this track running thru wet spots. Ron Roy was almost killed in our first heat race when I ran over one of those big clods and lost control and went everywhere. can you belive that cheater tried to pass and take advantage? The worst one of the night, Some northern sympathyser who we wil call ED kept driving right in front of me with his left blinker on and would not pull over and let me by. Then his buddy who we call Fog Horn moved the grass in turn 4 while I was lookin the other way. The only reason I put ANY water on the track was because those late model guys ALL brought the wrong tires.

And I wanna say good job to the R/C Shack's very own, John Cole.......TQ and win with the Losi nitro truck......not bad for only the 2nd time at the track and with 1-2 minutes of practice today......

Thanks for the comment Eugene.
I never even had the 1-2 minutes of practice some had .. so the base setup seemed to work pretty good.

I will also comment on the tech inspection. I'm not sure who was doing it and no offense to that person, however it did seem really odd that several cars in different classes were 're-examined' later in the night.

I'll be honest I don't know all the rules but I try and play by the book. The Sprint Justyne was running I bought used and no-one has ever complained about the wing size. Tech said the wing was basically 1/4 too long - it was cut, then later a comment was made that it was too low in the front. I felt bad since I didn't know there was a minimum, but I would've felt much better if it was all caught at once. I think it was 1/4 too low also.
The more I do this, the more I will learn what the standards are.

With that said, I would like to thank everyone who has tried to help me out this year.

i think they was all cheatun last night.

Prior commitments kept me from making it out to my "home track" for the points race last saturday. That being said, & objectively reading on here as well as talking to people that were there, on the phone, I can honestley say that "truth", or "constructive critisism" is neccasary part of "keeping things fair",for all of us that choose to race these cars at these tracks. Some lack of driver ettiquette during the main @ Allen's prevented me from finishing as well as I should. I told Allen, Mark Daniels, & Mouse about it, & the issue was addressed...problem solved. Make no mistake, I'm not posting this to be a "keyboard cowboy" or start a pissing match with anyone, there is more than one way to address some of these sometimes sensitive issues to get the results your after. I hope after the next points race @ Bill's, that "truth" or "constructive criticism" posted on their public forum/thread, is still considered just that.

Sometimes with the top wing, when you move it forward or angle it up more, it will then be to close to the chassis afterwards. So that could be why it was caught the second time the car was teched and not the first.

The reason that they re-examine cars is to keep people from cheating, Who is to say that anybody can't have their car teched and then go back to their pit and put illegal stuff on? That's why they do random spot checks. Also if something is brought to the attention of one of the track owners, or heirarchy, then they might pull a car aside and say hey, we missed this but it is illegal. Things do get missed, WE are all human. Also we do have a set of rules posted on Robertsrcraceway.com if you want to check those out

I already figured that out about the tilting of the wing. 'Afterward' lol

I'll take a look atthe rules there .. Thanks.

I'm not giving grief to whoever teched it .. I missed stuff setting it up so I have no problems with someone missing it when teching. It just seemed a lot of stuff was missed... and re-examined. Hopefully mine won't be an issue from now on

So is there an automatic 'tech' for the top 3 or 5 spots? I know I didn't get teched, but there should be a plan on it with everyone calling out cheaters all the time. Maybe this would 'quiet' some of the accusations? Pain in the arse for the tech and track guys though!!

Finally realized how the evening 'dew' makes the track slick as hell! Got that in the notebook now...

Had a good time for my second time there. It was kinda like dodgeball and Oval racing mixed togther ... talk about being on your toes!! lmao

I was having a miserable time racing and was mad at most of the world over it when a wise man (Cliff) told me "it's just too damn important to you". i quit immediately (again) without making hateful posts or giving "constructive criticsim". Hopefully I did that before my "approval rating" fell below 10%.

The point is, if it is THAT important to you that you get on here and argue and fight with other racers, it might be time to take a little time off. It turns out there are a ton of other fun things to do in this world other than play with toy cars (if you would like, i can start a new thread listing alternate things to do with your Saturday evenings). I'm certainly not saying that it is a bad hobby, but rc racing can become all consuming before we even realize it's happening.

Eugene, this is NOT directed at you, but hopefully you and others can find something to use in this post.

Scott

P.S. Congrats to the winners and everyone else that had a good time turning a few good laps.

Great job by the track crew. Cliff,Mouse and the others did a great job getting the track in shape. Great job by Mark, and the girls running the computer.

Thanks to Chris and Mouse for the help with the cars. Shelley and I really like our new Outlaws.

Good point Scott. The sprint car class is so competitive, and every second counts. It is very easy to get frustrated, or upset at times. We really like all of the tight racing.
We go to these races to have fun, and try to do well. Hope all issues get worked out here.

Congrats to the winners. Cliff, how do you come up with these things. That is some funny s@#%. Great run by Cliff also.

See everyone, or most of you at Bills next weekend.

Oh yeah, Matt I will never bring up the "R" word again. I learned my lesson.

Girls in the booth GREAT JOB. Cliff, Earl and others great job with the track budd. All the racers that came a big thanks. Track wasnt in the greatest shape but it wasnt all that bad either considering the weather. As for the practice time we discussed pushing the starting time back but didnt want to be getting out of there at 2 or 3 in the morning. Ill take the blame for that. Maybe i should of asked the racers what they wanted. But we did the best we could. Overall i think most had fun and seen some great races. Why aren't there extra points for TQ? From what I can tell TQ in the series doesnt help or hurt you rather than to start in front of pack of cars ready to T-Bone you in the first corner??

Thanks for the points update so fast....

Obviously you weren't at the first points series races. Both races started cleanly and the TQ lead wire to wire. Racing accidents happen, and it happened at the start of the race on saturday. That's racing. To answer your question about TQ, not sure why they don't give points for that. I thought they did last year, but maybe that changed.

edit: seen you were at one of the first races i believe. But still the statement stands about TQ making a difference.

That would be correct... first oval race this year (maybe 3rd race total with the truck) was Maryvilles July 4th race. Completely sucked!! had a ball though!!

I'd be curious what the reason is for no Tq if anyone has one...

As a side note... for the event promoters, send some flyers out to other hobby shops of points series races, special events etc. It's good to draw in new racers seeing shops and tracks work together and just letting people know there is something new planned. Maybe I could've made the first race too... :)
I know some shops just won't make the effort to send things out .. so maybe some traveling racers can distribute flyers more?

I'll display anything sent to me...

Does anyone have any ideas what body I can run on the Losi truck for Justyne to run it in the Bomber class? Thanks

Hey Maryville
I have to give it to you guys with all the weather you guys kept working on the track and made Round 3 happen that alone deserves credit .Cliff & Mouse and crew worked real hard before (Friday night) and after (the rains on Saturday)Me being a track owner I know what you guys went threw THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS. The program kept moving smooth thanks to Mark and the beautiful girls in the scoring booth and the racers doing there part as well. This was my first trip to Maryville and I was impressed nice track cool layout but the thing I loved the most was meeting some of the nicest people in the world they all worked together and had a lot of pride in what they were doing .Grats to the winners and a BIG thanks to Tony Mitchel and Jason Renard for helping me with my car .

See ya at the races

I know I had a good time despite a few adversities. A quote that almost got me fired once was, “ A bad day of competing is better than a good day at work!” This is still in my thoughts when things do not go perfectly. I accidentally shorted out the power outlet with rainwater and gained a pound of mud after the track was watered, but everything worked out.

A big thanks to Jenzo, Bob, and the young marshal from heat 6 for helping me.
