Here are the remains of Ron's GTB after the fire in the Sprints main. It was crazy looking! The look on Rob's face was priceless as he marshalled the smoking car, only to have it light up in a huge fire ball! Luckily no one was hurt!

From the charred remains, it looks like some "blue" piece o' crap speedo? I heard the motor was an orange piece o' crap, powered by some 40c piece o' crap.

Since we're all taking a guess at the pic...
It looks more like an orange smolding pile with a purple heatsink to me. :)
I'll worry when I see a black and gold (KO) smoldering pile in a picture somewhere :)

Give it a go!!! I thought I read somewhere the KOs can rock the 2.5 motors & 40c packs, right?! ;)

It was a Novak that he had been running a 6.5 with all night. The problem occured when he tried a 3.5 in the main!!
In the 2+ years that SmacTrac has been running, Novaks have smelled the building up at least 10 times more than any other speedo!!

I'm not sure about a 2.5, but I've been runing the KO VFS-1 BMC with a 40C SMC lipo all season. My car still has the same 4.5 motor in it from when it was built....I've never even unsoldered the wires!! That being said, the motor (timing and gearing) has always been the limiting factor (temp limits)....never the speedo. I don't think they set a motor limit for this speedo when you use the fan and heatsink.

In all fairness, I'd bet that the Novak speedos have been used 10 times more than any other speedo so you would expect to see more failures, right?

I would have to say that it is about 50/50 now on the off road between Novak and LRP.. As the Novaks melted down, they were replaced with LRP's. That is what I did when my almost new Novak smoked in the first season. I have had great luck with their motors and it looks like their new ones are very good.
