View Full Version : Mini Late Model CASH CLASS!!!!

sps3172
June 1st, 2009, 3:22 PM
Per Smac:

Scott may have mentioned to some of you already but he's looking to inject a little life into this class....hopefully it spills over into more new racers in all classes. Heck...some of the new guys are already visiting other tracks (watch out for the Skoal Bandit!!!) so it seems to be a smart move for DO in the entire area. Enough of that....

He's got a 'rental/loaner' car to hopefully keep the class on the schedule each and every night. But on the long term, his plan is some sort of cash payback in this class. Of course, the payback would be contingent on a certain number of entries but 4 or 5 of them should be enough to get some green flowing.

He's got some ideas of his own but wanted to get any and all suggestions before the launch night of THIS WEDNESDAY. Repeat.....the mini-class will be a CASH PAYBACK class this coming WEDNESDAY.

The only real 'rule' he's trying to adhear to is avoiding a 'winner take all' scenario. That always ends up with only a couple guys actually having a shot....attendance dwindles...etc. Perhaps a payout for the top three and then a random 'Lucky Dog' drawing for other racers. He's looking for YOUR ideas...

SPEAK UP!!! Wednesday is sneaking up on us!!!!

Ok...now that I'm finished playing 'secretary' for Scott, I had an idea of my own...

I'm picturing a somewhat 'reduced' payout for qualifiying order (top 3), invert the starting order for the main and payout at a slightly higher rate (top 3 again).

Just an idea....

I don't know if cash racing is going to be a good thing for the class. It is suppose to be a fun class, which it has been. If you start putting money up it might scare off some of the people that have the cars but are already too intimidated to race.

I think we need to talk to the Hobby shops in town about telling the customers about the class. Maybe do a short video of some of the racing that Mark Twain could run at their place. Maybe just some nice pictures of the cars. I think you need to stress that it is a fun classs for everybody. If we start getting some of the "PRO" sprint guys interested, then maybe make a money class.

Thanks for the input, Kelm. I hear ya.

I think Smac was hoping that finding ways to 'spread the wealth' instead of only paying the fast guys, would help mitigate the intimidation factor. You think that's a no go, eh?

Money or no money, this story ends with me putting Kelm into the wall:D

On a more serious not, adding money to class seems look a good idea to get more people interested.....but as Mike says, I'd rather not see this turn into a "yell at the guy next to you" class. As long as everyone stays cool and the racing stays as fun and tight as it's been, I'm all for the cash class.

Mark Twain REALLY needs to get one or two in stock though. I've got a buddy who used a loaner at Maryville Saturday and he's wanting to buy one. Looks like he's going to just get one off an online store. Last week we had someone else at the track who wanting to pull the trigger on one too. As for pictures, I'll get a couple good ones this week.

This one is pretty cool from the other night (too blurry though). I'll make changes to the flyer and we can print them out to finally give out to the hobby shops.

Ok, Warren Wallace.

Checkered Flag keeps the Mini LMs in stock. I'd bet that Ken over at K-10 (Maryville) has them too.

MONEY RACE? This wed.? I like $$$, I like to race, sounds cool to me! I kinda agree with Kelm though. If you make it about money, people are more prone to be yelling at one another, getting their feelings & their car hurt. With that in mind, maybe make it a once a month deal for $$$ racing.

I think Smac was hoping for input on the format (i.e. how much to pay and to whom). The hope is that avoiding a winner take all (with some random drawings to spread the wealth) will make it pay to attend....and not make it all about throwing elbows in the first corner.

A little off the subject here, but I recently lost my job and I need to sell my latemodel. So, if you are looking for one that is RTR with a mamba 4200kv set-up, Stock DSM radio, Integy threaded shocks, 22/54 gears, ball diff, 4 Duratrax 1400 packs and the stock esc. I need $160 so I can pay some bills.

I'll take it Chad! Call me at 636-293-6759

I understand the concerns about rough driving and I like to think that we have racers that are better than that. With that in mind, I will keep an eye out and call for a "stop and go" in the pits if needed.

For the format, I am leaning toward one that rewards qualifying along with the finishing order.

I will go over some numbers and post back here some time tonight.

Bump for a good guy with a great car. This is exactlly what someone should buy if they wanna go race for minimal cash outlay. Chad, sorry to hear about your job, hopefully things will turn around & all of us could get in a better spot financially.

Steve, I hear ya about the format. If you aren't able to get sponsors to throw some $ at it, take $5-$10 out of each mini's entry fee X # of entries...wait, I had a whole thing figured out & I went blank! Time to shut off the computer & clock off. I'll get back to this! sorry....

I think a little cash would be ok, but keep it fun. At Allen's races last year they would draw a pill to invert the field for the main.

Hey Warren Wallace, just aim for my car, then I know you'll miss.:D:D:D

You could do like golf and build a handicap for the class. After 4 or 5 race days you can get a feel where everybody skill level is.

I think it is a good idea...but I must agree keep it fun! Thats what I like about this class so far is all of it is FUN racing...I see alot of the guys in other classes taking things too serious sometimes and I dont want any of that. This stuff is ment to be fun...None of us are out for blood...well except for Kelm n Warren Wallace! LOL here is a couple pics i took the other night Doug if they turned out better! I think it will help to if we get flyers and pictures of the cars out there we will draw more people in. It seems like more and more people are getting interested and coming around to the class. Its a blast! Hope we can get about 8-10 every week...that would b pretty cool!

don't mean to kill the idea, but what if we could rotate the class for the pay out. just an idea! this could give the people a chance who do not own a mini a chance to maybe win a little paper! it is all about the paper you know!!!!Ha!!!

Thanks for posting that Mike. On Weds I'm going to bring my camera. We need a shot of ALL the cars (every class of car) sitting on the track for a good picture. Once Scott gets the payout info I'll edit the flyer with the pics/info and then print out some and distribute them to the LHS's.

Sounds like on Weds we may have 6-8 minis, I can't wait:thumbsup:.

Congrats to "Big Rob" Fayant for the first cash win. Got his entry fee back. Now lets see how much for that battery rental. It was just a 3 car main but had lots of excitement, all 3 cars on the same lap and Doug led the first 5 laps or so. Rolling start was cool.

ThisDougsForU
June 4th, 2009, 1:02 AM
Inverted rolling start should be the usual main start for the minis now, it was a blast. Yep another weds night and another close main race for us. All kinds of bumping & close passes (in a good way). Nice job Rob:thumbsup:

Sorry I couldn't make it  I'll be there for the next one! Congrats Big Rob!

To anyone thinking about going racing for cheap, this class is a blast! Fast, fun , easy to work on, & CHEAP!!! Smac is a great track to race them at too. The stock tires work great on the hard packed clay, & no NEED for "trick" add on parts.

I will have to forfeit that win and give it to Kelm. We did give it back and forth to each other by waiting, but my car was illegal as I found out after the race. I borrowed a 40c lipo for the main. It was fun to be able to run them down at will, but it did seem pretty unfair so I asked them after the race and found out that it was illegal.

Can't wait to run it again after getting the shocks right after the races were over.

I can't make it this Wed. because it is my wifes B-Day. The track is not busy enough to afford child support, so I will be spending the day with her!!

Hopefully a few people can step up and help my Dad out running the races on Wed.

The SmacTrac car is now available to race. It is $20 for the entry and use of the car. It is a bone stock car with the exception of the pan car 10 and 8 pound springs and 2000cts diff oil in the shocks and it handles great!!

ThisDougsForU
June 18th, 2009, 12:32 AM

Last night was fun. 2 heats of Latemodels was cool too. Thanks to Jeremy for coming all the way from Illinoise. His car got better as the night went on. Now if we could get some of them Rebels froms Maryville to show up.

There was talk about getting a pool up to match 1st place money, if somebody from that state could win here.

I can't believe that he told you I was still wearing diapers at age 9.

Actually he bought me a Tamiya Hornet and my brother a Tamiya Falcon for our first cars. After he finished helping us put them together he went and bought himself a Tamiya Fox. We all started racing together 28 years ago over at Ace's track in Cahokia.
