Just wanted to let everyone know what we have been doing to reduce wear
We have been using kasenit.
I use yellow map gas and a propane torch - regular gas won't get hot enough. hold one outdrive with a pair of pliers and heat until it glows a bright red then dip the outdrive in the kasenit and then reheat to bright red. Quench immediately in cold water using a back and forth motion to ensure maximum cooling. Be careful when dunking in cold water it will make a very loud popping noise, wear eye protection.
http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=505-0271 also available from msc A 1 pound container is a lifetime supply for what we are doing with it.
I have yet to see any wear after doing this. :D
Let me know if you need help.
Thanks
Chris

Thats good stuff!!! I have used it on my transmission top shaft and it makes the gear last 2 to 3 times longer.

People Just wanted me to update this
The Kasenit compared to just heat treating them is definitely harder
Most people told me last week at the Pa Nitro Tour race that they aren't wearing at all!

it would be great if you could have the new ones cut to be able to use the customworks blades for the outdrives just an idea

I actually grind my slots to fit the blades (recommended before you harden them). It's not an exact fit and you have to be careful you grind it to the point nothing is binding. I do need to replace the blades a little more often but the outdrives show no wear. It would be nice to have outdrives like that right out of the package for more precision.
