The West Central IL points series needs help with there adaptation of the rules.

here is there take:

Center section and side panels must be made from at least 3 separate pieces of polycarbonate, carbon or aluminum material.
All corners and edges must be rounded and free of sharp edges.
Wing must be mounted so that they are centered on cage, no offset wings.
Wing center sections must have all 4 corners set at 90° angles, no canted or angled panels.
Wing must also be mounted level from side to side. Center section of wing may not extend beyond leading or trailing edge of side panels.
Side panel dimensions: Left = 8" long x 4.5" tall; Right = 8" long x 3.5" tall
Side panels must be mounted so that the bottom edge of left panel and top edge of right panel overlaps center section a minimum of .5"
Left side panel must be 90° on all 4 corners and on the same plane. Right side panel top two corners must be 90° and all four corners must be on the same plane.
Side panels must have braces that hold side panel rigid at 90° to center section during race conditions. Two braces are required from top of the center section to the left side panel and one brace is permitted below the center section to the right side panel.
Braces can be a maximum of .750" wide and front edge of front brace must be no more than 1.5” back from side panel leading edge.
Side panels may have front, back, top and bottom turnouts of no more than .375" and are included in max dimension.
Center sections maybe flat or dished/tri-fold with a maximum 7" long x 7" wide. The maximum center section dimensions (length and width) will be measured by the contour of the panel, and not just straight end to end.
Flat panel center sections will be allowed an additonal max. .250" turndown at the leading edge.
Flat panel center sections will be allowed an additional max. .500" straight wicker/spoiler at trailing edge.
Dished/tri-fold center sections are NOT allowed an additional front turndown or rear wicker/spoiler.
The additional rear wicker/spoiler may be attached separately.
Top Wing minimum height at leading edge of measured 7 x 7 surface: 5" from bottom of chassis

the main issue is that they want to penalize a dished wing with no spoiler.
Please help the series starts this weekend.

I think that's pretty good. I have been running the associated 6" wing for years and it has more downforce than a flat wing. Whoever made those rules did some thinking it looks like.

I am fairly new to sprints. But i do not understand the logic of penalizing the tri fold wing.I have made several of both types. It takes maybe 2 minutes longer to make tri fold wing.cut 2 vees on each side and 2 bends.and then it fits conveniately on custom works mounts which are available everywhere.flat wing mounts are not.i have spent much more time making flat mounts which are not available at many tracks.I guess i will have to have several of each till dust settles.and a note.I thought robs way of checking wings made common sense.common sense rules worked very well in brl.

I need Someone from the DODC to rule on this Please.

The current DODC wing rules allow wings to either be flat or dished. The clarification that needs to be made here is that the wing measurement is done from the leading edge to the trailing edge along the top SURFACE of the wing.

Also to clarify the LEADING EDGE is the point of the wing deck that splits the air and would be the part of the wing that contacts a vertical surface when moving forward (the same point where minimum height should be measured).

For the 7x7 wing rule the max. wing length is measrued from the leading edge along the top surface to a point 7" rearward of that. At that point there can be an additional 1/2" either added on or as part the main deck piece that can be flat or bent to act as a spoiler or wickerbill. In a nutshell the total length of the wing including front turndowns, folds spoilers and wickerbills can not exceed a linear measurement of 7 1/2".

I dont see any reason to not allow a turndown or spoiler on a wing that is dished of folded. It would be no different than any of the molded wings currently on the market. I would hope that the west central Il series would be able to use the current DODC wing rules as currently posted and clarified here. That would sure make things simpler which is the whole idea behind the DODC rules package.

Thanks,
Rob
