Let's Race Some 13.5 Late Models!!!!

Hey guys....

We haven't had a chance to run any 13.5 Latemodels yet. I know Ed Gaines showed up with one the first week but had no company. I'm really looking forward to seeing some of these run.

I'm putting together a CW SE for Steve Kriete and he want's it set up as a 13.5 Latemodel. I think this could be a cool class for the folks that want to run something a little more 'realistic' looking than the 'fold-o-matic' EDMs that Smac and I are chasing. I'll probably have Steve's car ready for Wednesday next week.

I've heard of a 13.5 LM series that runs around here.....perhaps if we could get a few of these showing up regularly, it might draw some of those guys in.

T-mac has an intimidator living in various seperate corners of Smac's basement.....I may browbeat him into resurrecting that car for his Dad to run as a second class.

I have a TC3 that I was going to use for VTA, but if there is enough people doing it I may convert it a 13.5 LM.

The 13.5 LM class is a 2WD DODC class. Your TC3 can already run in our 'open 4WD' class. Hit me up at the track and I can clue you in on what body, tires, etc.

I am sooooo behind on my late model conversion. I hope to be out this Sunday, but will be lucky if I have my MDM ready. Apparently getting ready for a baby has taken precedence over my budding Dirt Oval career... :confused:

I've got Steve's SE Late Model roller finished. Hopefully I can get some eletronics installed and mount/paint a body tomorrow evening. I hope he likes GREEN!! :)

The big white bomber (Steve's LM) made it's debut last night. The car was a mess when I first ran it. Go figure....the body was dragging. I raised the front of the body again and again and finally decided I was just hearing the body rattling around the track (I fit them looooose on the body posts).

Turns out, the right side and rear of the body was getting into the track in the center of the corners....wonder why it was always loose off? Hmmmm? *smile*

When I fixed that (thanks Smac), it ran like it was on rails. I'll say this...it's strange seeing pinions that are almost as large as spur gears (13.5 gearing). :)

I can't say I got it perfect but the rollout was close at 2.1" or roughly 53.5mm for anyone planning on coming out.

Bring em out guys!!!

I got a chance to work on the 13.5 LM again today. I stamped it 'close' and handed it back over to Steve Kriete so he could start racing it.

I really had fun with this car. It was fairly stable and I was surprised how fast the 13.5 was. I think the racing could be MUCH closer in this class than any other as the cars aren't overpowered and the full bodies would prevent most of the open wheel, sprint car type aerobatics we normally see from that class.

When the dust settled, I was able to run 50 laps @4:01.718 with a fast lap of 4.69 and average lap of 4.83. The battery wasn't anything special and I didn't really push the motor so I think there's definately more left out there.

If anyone is interested, I can try to post a setup sheet....

Ya...I remember the 19T racing from 'back in the day'.....this sir, is NO 19T :) I would describe the power as 'entertainingly quick'. Not so fast as to be intimidating...not so slow as to be boring.

Doug, are you gonna convert your TC to a LM? I'm bringing some bodies to the track tomorrow.....I think there's one more available....TC width LM bodies from Macallister.

T-mac? I think Smac could 'marry' the DD rear end from your old sprinter with the chassis and front end from his intimidator. That might make a pretty mean 13.5 LM sled.

Randy? Might be worth considering as a 2nd class. Another SE kit should be a bit cheaper than the sprinter....but i have to admit that those silly things are growing on me *smile*

Guys...you ought to give this class some thought. Most folks like 'door handle to door handle' racing and I'm positive you could get away with more 'rubbing' in this class, without major incident, than any other.

I think Klyber is going to run his 13.5 LM this tomorrow down there. I think all it will take is having a few of them and for people to see how competitive they are. Cheap too..

FYI....

Ed Gaines has a really nice CW SE for sale (same chassis as Ted and Steve K)....and it's CHEAP.

I think he's only asking $250 for it.

Ed...do you still have the Concord body for the SE?
