I read that you said no pin spikes. Are you gonna allow taper pins that aren't ground down? or does it need to be a slick tire? Also, i'm sure your gonna let the custom works street trac tires run correct?

Offroad tires will need to have the spikes/pins/bars/ribs etc. removed (front and rear). We have a maxmod machine at the track that makes this an easy job. I've never done it, personally, but there should be a few off-road guys around at all times that have.
On the downside, you have to 'ruin' a perfectly good set of tires. On the upside, I'm told you can expect to use that single set all year. Again...I'm just passing on what the off-road guys have reported...I didn't race this winter.
Personally, I expected that the MDM and Truck classes (because of the no foam rule) would be on 'slicked out' offroad tires. Of course the 1/18th class has it's own rubber tire. Aside from that, although still open to rubber, I presumed the rest of the classes would head toward foams.
What would you predict?

honestly, if one person is running foams, its probably gonna be the best way to go. Especially with running 1/8th scales. they will blow any and all the loose stuff to the top of the track. After seeing the drawing, i can't wait to get up there and run.
Brand new set of taper pins, and a dremel are looking to meet this week at some point in time.:D

MDM? What front tires or were you using tapers for that too? I think Scott was thinking that a 'slicked out' 4WD front tires on a wide buggy rim would be a good place to start for MDM.

yah that was my plan, tapers all the way around ground down. Also try the rounders up front just to see how it works. I might grind down a set of rounders for the front as well.

Cant go wrong with inside jobs....evil twins...double d's...... and on the front rounders or wide ribs.

At maryville, early night will be red ifmar pins. Later in the night is usually inside jobs, double dee's should work well as well.

Slicks were a bad choice in off road,Track had to be way to wet.Ghosted tires seem to work the best. The guys that won all the time never ran slicks.

I don't think track moisture is going to be an issue.....stay tuned.....
Also, since we aren't going to have full spike tires (some guys ran them in offroad) on the track, there will not be nearly as much 'fluff'. The 'ghosted' and 'slicked' tires should work really well.

You can see the tread but not feel it.

This is ONLY true of the MDM class. In the Open Mod EDM class, foam tires are legal. In the MDM class, most plan on starting with a 4WD front tire on a wide buggy rim, with the spikes/pins/bars etc removed.

I ran slicks all the way around on my 4wd until it started drying out and then had to go to a full or ghost pin. We will not be letting this track dry out, so the slicks should work well.

Scott said to get Jaco pinks all around on my 4wd.... are these what I need to start with?

it doesn't look like there's a lot of "tread" to start with. What if you need to true them, you'd be down to the rim!

Anyone have an old extra set of buggy tires lying around that they don't need ?

Tony,
I think Smac used those pink TC foams because he had them already. The new Jaco Prizim stuff comes trued down much smaller than the older Jaco TC stuff that Smac had. I'd still suggest BSR Silvers (rears all around).
What did you end up doing about a body?

I don't believe I will be able to race sunday, so I have a bit more time to rustle up a body. I was going to go with the pro comp camaro body as soon as I can order one.... what bodies do you have for sale (that would fit) Scott said to get a 190mm body but most seem to be 200mm
also as far as tires.... are all of the hexes the same size (universal) for all touring sedans?

I would suggest that you get the body that Steve Smith still has, which is the same body that I got from him. You will need to get a side dam that Checkered Flag carries.
As far as tires go, Steve is right. I am running touring car foams because that is the only tires that I have been able to fit on my X-Ray FK05. On your car, you should be able to get the BSR silver rear tires that are made for the Custom Works cars. Jerry did that with his TC3 and we cut them down in height and in width so that they would fit. You will need to take the hexes off and mount them directly on to the pins. If that is the route that you take, bring them out to the track and we will help you with them.
