Eugene....make sure you bring that 1/8th LM with you if you make the occasional trip to STL.
I'm planing on hitting Big Bill's several times this summer with my 1/8th LM. I also have a Putnam car....I guess 13.5 LM would be the class for that up there?

Hoo Boy! I'm ready.
CW Outlaw electric sprint
Havoc SC electric sprint
CW GBX Intimidator 13.5 late model
How about the Losi Late Models? My daughter Shandon has had a blast with them indoors this winter... I'm thinking spiky tires will make 'em good on the dirt.
question: is the 13.5 late model class running CW Tires again, or buggy tires.

I seriously hope that is just a rumor and not actually true, or I hope it is a completely separate class altogether. It sounds like the 4-track series 13.5 class is going to be pretty big this year, so I don't see why the same rules can't be enforced at the weekly shows at each track.
The 4 tracks in the series should use the series rules for the 4 main classes (Electric Sprint, Nitro Sprint, 13.5 LM, and Nitro Truck) to keep the uniformity that everyone was looking for when creating the series in the first place.

i can see that but what about the guys that dont plan on running in the series at all. are we to tell them they have to buy another 90$ battery because the ones they have arent allowed? i know right now i dont have a extra 90$ to spend on top of the $2-300 to get my sprintcar going also...
P.s. it was just something i had heard a couple months ago im sure Eugene or Bill will let it be known what all is legal this year soon.

Like I said, it should be a separate class. The track owners agreed on a set of rules for the 13.5 LM class which was CW tires and the 3200 Li-Po (similar to the DODC rules only not forcing use of the SPEC DODC 3200 li-po). I understand that there may be a few that don't have a 3200 or a set of CW tires, but what about the majority that bought the stuff to conform to the series rules? Now if they plan to run a weekly race at one of the tracks on the series, they either have to buy a new battery and probably a set of tires to keep up, or find somewhere else to race.
Again, I don't see why there needs to be different rules for these classes at each track. Local Option classes are one thing, but to completely change the rules on the standard series classes doesn't make sense. At least not for a track that is in the series.

You can find hardly used 3200 28c lipos on hobbytalk all the time for $40 to $60

Hot off the press.....yes. Yes what you ask? Yes Bill is allowing buggy tires and bigger li-po's int he WEEKLY 13.5 class. It has nothing to do with me, I'm not running this class. Bill said a lot of the guys interested in the class last year were asking if they could run the other tires. So, if you have a 13.5 motor and any li-po up to 5400 mAh and 40C or less, you can run that class.
Just remember, like Jenzo says, "let em, cause when they run the CW tires they will be out to lunch". It's true, the cars will not handle anything like they do with buggy tires. The 4 track series races will require everyone to run the CW street track tires and Novak DODC li-po/13.5 combo. But if you have an old 13.5 and some 18C li-po left over from last year or something and want to run another class.......come on out.
I doubt this will concern more than 2-3 people and as most remember from last year, the 13.5 class with street tracks went 35 laps @ Bill's. That is only 1-2 laps off the mod sprint class or the nitro sprints. Bill will encourage guys to try the CW tires so they are familiar with them come time for the 4 track series.
I do know Bill has a 13.5 car for this year and I believe he will be running the CW tires weekly........
Hope this helps......See you all soon

Heck, Jenzo prolly has more than one.....lol
And if I was looking into the class.....on a limited budget......I would consider that option for sure. Even the 3200 mAh 28C's that are DODC legal would work for most other classes like even the electric sprint. I hardly ever put more than 2500-2800 mAh back into my batteries after a race. Just something else to think about.

Granted I don't know how much of an advantage, if any, the buggy tires would have over the CW tires. Depends more in the condition of the track on that day. But I do know in a 13.5 class that the 40C batteries will blow away any other li-po. Its a disadvantage that would be hard to overcome. If 2 - 3 people don't care about running the series or getting the proper equipment to run under the series rules thats fine. But the series 13.5 LM class should be offerred by itself and not combined with a completely different class.
I would just like to see some standardization amongst the dirt oval tracks, particularly the ones sharing the 4-track series. If the tracks are going to agree on a set of rules for the series, they should use the same rules for the weekly racing. Again, a local option class is fine as it doesn't (shouldn't) conflict with the already established class.
And for whats its worth, I wish the LM class ran buggy tires and allowed rears to be mounted on truck fronts for the front. They would look more realistic and probably drive pretty good. My opinion is tracks across the country should strive to make ALL classes more realistic looking. But since this isn't the rules for the series, we should follow those rules and try and make it work.

Again.....I doubt we run into that problem. I'm sure the first night we have 6, 13.5LM's show up with buggy tires and 10 with the CW tires......we'd be happy to split em up.....but until that happens, lets not worry to much. I hope there are 50 of the 13.5 LM every week @ every track in Illinois. Realistic? prolly not.
And I am all for realistic.......I mean I pull more wheelies in my nitro sprint that most WoO cars do. lol. I vote for the 13.5LM class to run the 1/10th Slider REAR tires all the way around! I put 4 of them under my LM body and it was COOL!

same here locally the 40c has more initial punch but they cant sustain that all the way thru the qualifiers or mains.

Does anyone know how many times, in a 4 minute race, that a 13.5 motor will draw 128 amps?
3200, 40C would be 3.2 X 40 right? = 128.
Seems like a lot of amp draw........you would think they would get 300 degrees at that amp draw.
voodoo427
March 26th, 2009, 2:49 PM
yep jenzo.. ive heard a rumor though that the maxamps arent really 35 or 40 c and that the trinity isnt also. no clue how true those rumors are tho but i know my lil 22c smc has sustained its power all thru the qualifiers while the 40c trinity and 35c max amps lost all thier punch 2 minutes into the race.

March 26th, 2009, 7:04 PM
Yes a 20c battery should be a disadvantage to a 28c, but then again until the 40c batteries came out I didn't see much difference from one li-po to another. Reguardless, the fact that someone may own a 20C vs everyone else running 28C is irrelevant. We're talking about having standardized rules across all the tracks, particularly the ones sharing the same series. My point is the track owners agreed on a set of rules for the series, and for whatever reason those same rules can't be used for the weekly racing?
Now whether or not one manufacturer is different from another is an entirely different topic. You say a 3200 40c li-po isn't any faster, but the rule is up to 6000, not 3200. I've never seen a 3200 40C run, but I know what a 5000+ 40C can do, and it IS an advantage in stock (13.5) classes.
Yes 50+ Late models would be cool. The electric sprint class was getting close last year, so the potential for a class to reach that is there.
voodoo427
March 26th, 2009, 9:53 PM
where did you see the 5000mah 40c battery have a advantage cuz noone else has seen it around here. they have 0 advantage after the first couple laps because they pull more amperage and a couple laps in that punch is gone. if your that far down in a few laps that you cant catch back up then its not the batteries that need redone.:checkeredflag:

I'll have to agree with shearburn on the battery deal... I've ran smc 28c packs with a 13.5 and my TP 40c with a 17.5 and both cars are very close on power. If i had to say so the advantage goes to the 17.5 car. This is in offroad, But i can never tell a drop off in power until 10 minutes or so. Consistently clears all the jumps at the local track. 40c is a huge difference, if you can't tell a difference there is something wrong somewhere.
