There's been some significant interest in the 1/8 Nitro Late Model class at Smac Trac on Sundays. That being said, I thought this might be a good place to share info specific to Smac Trac on this class...who knows..maybe even get in a little 'bench racing'.
The track surface is expected to be smooth/high bite. I suspect that foams will be the tire of choice as none of the classes will be running 'spiked' tires and we shouldn't have much, if any, fluff or cushion to deal with.
Based on all the above, I selected the Ofna DO Pro chassis and set it up with Traxxas Revo shocks as there seems to be MANY more spring rates available for these shocks (Ofna, Traxxas, RC4Less, etc).
Although I've found lots of information about which body 'looks cool', there seems to be very little, if any, info about the handling characteristics of the popular choices. I have Losi, Ofna and C&M '09 bodies to start with. Does anyone have any input here?
Unless I missed my guess, beyond the ability to run reliably, I don't expect the power plant to be much of a factor. With 4 minute heats and features, runtime shouldn't be an issue and I've been led to believe that most 'descent' buggy engines make more than enough power. I went with a fairly standard RB buggy engine (WS7) and pipe (2045) with short header (192P).
Smac Trac will be more of a ‘paperclip’ style track with longer straights and tighter corners. I DO expect the clutch to be important because of this. Is there a ‘standard’ setup for these 3 shoe buggy clutches on a high bite track? I’m sure this varies with motor choice. As my RB is not super strong on low end, in the absence of any other advice, I plan to start with 3 carbon shoes and 1.1 springs. Suggestions?
That should get us started….I’d love to hear what the other 1/8 LM folks think might work at Smac Trac. I'm sure this thread will take on a whole new landscape once we have some actual laps on the track.
