View Full Version : Allen's Wednesday Night Thunder

Allen is looking for some feedback on the idea of running the dirt track weekly on Wednesday nights this summer. Thinking this would free up the weekend for those who have other commitments.

Ball park time line would be to start the first round at 7:30pm, second round at 8:30, and mains at 9:30pm. This should get everybody out a decent time so they can make it to work the next morning.

Sprints and 1/18Late Models would probably be the big classes but he would also run 3 or more of any other class.

I'm game. I personally can't make it on the weekend for most of the summer so I would enjoy racing on Wed. nights like the good old days. I expect to race the 1/18 Latemodel class, but may go to sprint and race both.

Do you think they would run the same brushless motors? I would think the outdoor track might be more fun with a little hotter motor.

The Mini Late Models would probably be run on the smaller track on the frontstretch. I think Allen is planning on redoing the frontstretch bullring track so we can run the Mini LM's without having to buy all new stuff (other than maybe tires).

Chris, If i am following you righ, would that mean both classes use the same front straight? And if so, wouldn't that be require splitting up practice time? I'm not sure if that would be a problem or not.

Yes it uses the same frontstretch, and no you wouldn't be able to practice both at the same time very easily... even though some try to anyway.

It would depend on how many show up for what class to determine how practice is done.

At the KotW last year, there were as many as 20 - 30 cars on the track at the same time during practice, usually multiple classes even (elect sprint, nitro sprint, nitro truck, and 1/8 LM). A few Mini LM's running around the infield section while the 1/10 sprinters run the full track is not really a big deal :ha:

Not 100% sure. He mentioned that he may go with a limited Saturday night schedule this year, maybe only once or twice a month.

Nothing is set in stone as this point. He is just trying to get an idea of what would work best.

As for the Late Models I would think they would run use the same rules as the indoor trackr. Going to a faster motor on dirt (less traction) may not be a good thing… I'm sure a seperate practice schedule could be worked out.

Personally I say run it like the big tracks. You get about 2 minutes of practice per class and then we go racing.. :greenflag::greenflag::greenflag: (Don't worry it's not likely to happen that way.)

Sounds like J-Tec may stay on Saturday for oval with a few Friday night shows also. I don't think they have made a final decision yet.

I'm thinking Wednesday night will work for me. We used to do it and had a great time. We just gotta be sure to get out there and support Allen. He and his posse, (you know who you are) put a lot of effort into this for all of us. Tom Appelt had mentioned earlier that Wednesday would work for him... I'll have him get on and put in his two cents. Canham was liking the Wednesday night idea too. Guess that's 3 more to add to the list.

Remember, when you start behind cliff in a race, you go when he goes...not the sound of the tone

6:30 may be skinnin' the cat a little tight for me to get home, get the kid, get back, unload, hit the track, but somewhere between there and 7:30 should work. Remember Quartermouse, not everyone only has an hour and a half drive to get to the track, some of us have to drive 20 (sometimes 22) minutes to get there... LOL :checkeredflag:

Actually that rule applies more so if you start infront of him. :blueflag:

Hay I have an hour and half drive. Of course I'm not the same age as Quartermouse so I can stay out a little later.:D

I know we would have a couple of electric sprints coming from Champaign each week.
