Dirtoval.com is very excited to announce the formation of the 2009 National Dirt Oval Points Championship. This points championship will encompass all of the major races in 2009 plus one race from each regional series and 1 race from each participationg DODC track. This system will award points to drivers in any DODC class at all of the races on the schedule. These will not be stand alone races, we are simply taking results from already scheduled events and applying the points to them. There will be 18-20 races on the schedule which will be completed sometime in Mid February. All drivers are competing against all other drivers regardless of class and you will be given points for all classes that you compete in, not just one. Your best 8 points events will be counted for your total points at the end of the season.
Tentative points races will include:
2009 Chili Bowl
2009 February Freeze
WDRA Summernats
1 race from Each DODC regional series
1 race from Each DODC participating track
A breakdown of the points format will be posted soon, the points are rated based on the number of entries in a particular event. Points series will conclude by end of October and prizes will be awarded at the 2009 US Open Wheel Championships. Prizes, complete schedule and more information will be coming next week.
Thanks and Good Luck!

Cool concept. Want me to send you some extra strength tylenol for the headache you're gonna get running this one- LOL! I thank you for everything you do for all us racers, Rob.

PS- The Chili Bowl Jr is the only one I'll get to race in so I expect to be close to last- LOL. Heck the classes I race there aren't even DODC so I gues I'll watch you all- LOL!

Just to clarify, you will recieve points for each class you race at each event. If you only attend 2 events but compete in 4 classes at each of those events you will have your 8 races in. The way the schedule will work most racers should be able to get to at least 2 or 3 events without too much trouble.

Sounds like this could be a very interesting year of racing. I believe this should generate some intrest in the hobby that is much needed, plus it sounds challenging & alot of fun. Good job Rob & whoever else was involved in the thought process. GO FAST TURN LEFT ! Keith S.

Got a question: Why wasn't this posted before the Chili Bowl race. I feel like I am in the hole by 900 plus points. If some of us would have known that this race was going to be a points race then I would have done more to try and attend it. I am not fussing or arguing. I am just wondering. I am sure that you will get asked this by many people and possibly in a stupid manner that will make some fly off of the handle a little prematurely.

im not sure but if they take your best 8 races you could miss the chili bowl and still win the points.

I wish it could have been announced sooner, but guys like Rob said there will be 18 to 20 events for everybody to compete at with them only taking your best 8 finishes. There is not anybody that doesnt have a chance at winning the national points race.

Basically there will be 18 to 20 events in which they will take your best 8 races from. If a racer is running multiple classes he should be able to get his 8 races by attending 4 or 5 of the events. It is quite possible that a racer running could get his 8 races by running locally at a couple of tracks and maybe just one tour date.
This could get really interesting and fun when a racer running locally ends up in a top 10 points battle with say a Billy Fisher or someone who is just running the national events and big races. The key word to that last sentence was FUN. This whole program was designed to be fun for the racers. There is no big multimillion dollar contract or large point fund payout at the end either; it’s all just done for fun. It’s an optional deal as well; no racers are required or asked to pay any extra to race at races that are point’s races.
I think Rob would have liked to have had this announced as early as when he bought the site but it just took time to get it all put to paper. If you take a look at the points table, it’s obvious he put a lot of thought into it as well as its weighting.

Simple answer, took time to get it sorted out and I've been very busy. Guys this isnt gonna pay 10 Grand to win. It is just something we thought would add some excitement to the racing. I will be spending my own time keeping track of this, please dont take the fun out it already!
Every class you run at every eligible race will count as one of your 8. As I stated you can run 4 classes at 2 races or 2 classes at 4 races or 1 class at 8 races, either way it all counts. We still have to estabilsh the rest of the scheduled races and as soon as we have it finalized it will be posted.
Thanks,
Rob

Races at the Dreamworld are worth quadruple points, and considering the Dreamworld's schedule, Solly has not only already won, but also finished second thru tenth! Believe it!
