View Full Version : Spec Motor Update

Just wanted to let everyone know we are still actively working on the solution for the spec motor program. As mentioned previously there are a lot of factors involved and we know that the future of the program rests on the decisions we make in the next few days. The direction we are working towards will give us a reliable motor that we should be able to have in place within the next week or so. Please understand that no one is dragging their feet or putting this off, it just takes time and we know we only have one crack at making this right! Expect some further info in the next day or so as soon as we have firm info in place.

Before everyone gets on and gives their idea of what we should do I can assure you we have considered and explored several options. We feel the spec motor program we have in place is the right idea we just have to get the reliability issue solved which we beleive we have. This spec program was put in place for several reasons some of which the racers have not yet seen the benefits of but will in the coming months.

I again would like to apologize to the racers who have had issues with the motor at the USOWC and appreciate their support in the program we have put in place. I will post more info just as soon as it becomes available.

Thanks,
Rob Cutman

Rob,

A few things to consider, please.

This IS a good program

The majority of the racers understand the situation the committee is in

Their are a bunch of us who appreciate all the work you and Todd and others are doing to make this right

Lastly...Is being on the DODC rules committee similar to being pecked to death by a duck?

Please keep up the good work!

Frank

Rob, from my experience R/C racers can and will bitch about getting a free "BJ", The TG engine is the right engine for this class, it is inexpensive, parts are reasonable in cost and most any Hobby shop can get the engines and parts. I do feel that the rules committee stopped short of making the correct call on the total package. You should also call out a spec pipe (could care less which one) as well as a spec tire. I also feel that a major protest should be fired at OS for allowing Tower to gouge the racers with this price increase mess just because the demand picked up (GREED).

The limited clas is just that limited, if you don't like the engine rules run open.

I believe this post has to do with the 13.5 spec deal. Not the nitro limited engines.

Bill i think Rob is talking about the 13.5s we run at the USOW race not limited nitro

Bill - Undoubtedly Rob's post is intended for the 13.5 Spec Class...;)

rob i have a small suggestion, the novak motor can be tampered with they are doing it on oval to get the inductance down to the limit,i think the trinity motor(pulse)is the best motor for the dodc.1. timing can be adjusted legally thus making speedo's with out this feature as good as the lrp/tekin.2.the field coil cant be messed with like the novak. todd putnam can weight in on the benefits of the pulse motor over the novak,oh and there cheaper than a novak.:checkeredflag:

I tested the timing feature on the tekin ( sensors off and high timing) and it was slower with timing up than the motor being run with timing up and the sensors hooked up and set in the speedo to be on. So I dont agree on trinity being the way to go. Also Novak has a great history of relibility and customer service. I have the orignal novak 5800 that is 6 years old and still runs well. charlie charlie hes our man he can fix this like nobody can! LOL :-) Brian rob i have a small suggestion, the novak motor can be tampered with they are doing it on oval to get the inductance down to the limit,i think the trinity motor(pulse)is the best motor for the dodc.1. timing can be adjusted legally thus making speedo's with out this feature as good as the lrp/tekin.2.the field coil cant be messed with like the novak. todd putnam can weight in on the benefits of the pulse motor over the novak,oh and there cheaper than a novak.:checkeredflag:

i agree that novak has great service but the trinity is modular so you can replace any part that goes bad at the track.

Not that trinity isnt a good motor - but they never keep stock on stuff - i have ordered things and had them on back order for months - they hav a few good products but they arent very good at keeping whats needed in stock and when the next best thing comes out they drop what they had and move on leaving us going duhhhhh - not trying to stir the pot but this is from past experience with them over the last 4 years - at this point i dont even deal with them any more = just my input again not trying to start a war or insult anyone -
i think the novak is a good way to go - but we'll see what happens - who ever it is will have a nice contract for a year or 2

Any word on when the spec motors will be available? There's only 25 days (17 days excluding weekends) until I start out on my journey to Bumps & Jumps. I'm signed up for 2 of the spec classes, and I'm wondering what motor I need to order. Will they be available in time? Will Chris have enough on hand for those that need them? Or, do I need to buy the Novak that is allowed for this race?

Sorry for all of the questions, but the Freeze is less than a month away and we haven't heard an update for a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Curt

I would suspect that Chris should have motors if they are available. However I might want to make sure I had a couple of Novak 13.5's to make sure. At least they aren't hard to get rid of, although we use them here on a weekley basis.

They are working on the spec motor problem. I believe I read they are going to allow novak motors at bumps and jumps, double check their forum for latest info.

Novak owns! hi charlie ;)
