View Full Version : my opinion on the new DODC rules for 09

WELL I HAVE BEEN QUITE SINCE THESE NEW RULES WERE PUT OUT IN EARLY OCT. I AM VERE DISAPOINTED IN HOW THE RULES WERE WRITTEN BY A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THE EAST COAST WITHOUT GETTING IMPUT FROM THE OTHER REGIONS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE RULES THAT COCERN ME THE MOST IS THE 13.5/17.5 SPEC LATE MODEL CLASS. THE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WROTE THESE RULES THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD BE A COST SAVINGS FOR ALL RACERS, BUT IN MY OPINION IT IS NOT. THE 13.5 LM THAT I RUN HAS A NOVAK 13.5 SS PRO BRUSHLESS MOTOR, A THREE YEAR OLD NOVAK GTB,A 90 DOLLAR TRINITY 45OO LIPO, STOCK CW STREET TRAC TIRES, AND A MCALLESTER WINCHESTER BODY. IF YOU TOTAL ALL THIS UP IT WOLD BE ABOUT 450 DOLLARS, NOW WAY THE NEW RULES STATE, I WILL HAVE TO SPEND ANOTHER 450 TO 500 DOLLARS TO BE LEGAL IN DODC RACES WHILE MY EQUIPMENT IS ROAR APPROVE AND READLY AVAILABLE TO THE ENTIRE RACING PUBLIC. I THINK THAT THE RULES THAT WERE PERSENTED TO THE PUBLIC SHOULD HAVE MORE IMPUT FROM THE OTHER REGIONS OF THE US, OTHER RACERS AND TRACK OWNERS , AND OF COURSE OTHER MANUFACTURES. tHIS IS MY OPINION ANDI KNOW THAT ROB CUTMAN WILL THINK THAT I AM SOME SORT OF A CRYBABY BUT i AM SPEAKING FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE. BECAUE I WON THE WEST CENTRAL IL DIRT OVAL SERIES IN THE 13.5 LATE MODEL CLASS.

The way I see it, from what you stated, it will take you approximately the same as all of us running the 13.5 LM class to run. Well, except you will have to buy a set of FOAMS to run in the USOW.
I cant say that all the rules make me "jump for joy". But considering all the time and effort from all the people that made the rules. I dont think it costed YOU a thing for all of Their time. And like ALL of use that want to race DO, just conform, and quit complaining about what it cost, and race.

Thank you, now I have vented with MY opinion!

he would'nt say that at all. but i will, stop you're crying and go racing. this is the best thing that has happened for dirt oval in the past 20 years. you guys have been crying for years, that there should be a national set of rules. now they're here and your still crying.
btw chad smith is from you're region. congrats on you're 13.5 lm championship.:checkeredflag:

90.00 BATTERY - 90.00 MOTOR -
i'm in the same boat - but i can understand where this is all coming from - the batteries and the motors will not change for 2 years and it kind of levels the playing field to driving and not what the hot selling item is - if someone had a blue battery and a green motor and they kept winning everyone would want a blue battery and a green motor - now a few weeks go by and some one is winning with a red battery and a purple motor everyone is going to want that too now sombody has to stock whats hot and whats not sits and collects dust and there is a bunch of money tied up for stuff thats not selling -
so to make it the way it is is for the most part fair - i'm not thrilled that i spent money on my brushless stuff only to have to get new - but i am in favor of being equal with everyone else - if you raced a big car and were running hoosiers and the track said no more hoosiers the track tire is good year - guess what if you wanted to race you would get the tires and not be happy but you would be happy racing - i know a lot of people arent happy about the rules but they are what they are and they arent going to change for 2 years - i'm not trying to argue or prove a point just kind of giving an outlook on things - any way i got 3 novak 13.5 brushless motors for sale - lol -

Are you kidding me? You waited this long to post your opinion and still got it wrong. You should have spent the last 40 days actually reading the rules if you were going to comment about them to this extent. And no I am not saying you are crying I am just saying that you got it way wrong.

First of all 1 of the 11 people you mention lives in Oklahoma and 2 are from Illinois, the same place you won the series, and congrats by the way. Pretty sure neither of those states are on the East Coast and thats more than 25% of the people involved. Your speed control, tires and winchester body are all still legal. Hate to think you would have to buy new tires or a body since we all know they last forever. That leaves a $90.00 battery and a $80.00 motor. You have to add those together and multiply by 3 to get to $500.00. If you dont like or agree with the rules that is fine. I certainly respect your opinion but I cant help but point out that what you are stating is very innacurate.

Respectfully,

His calculator needs new batteries Rob LOL This is going to be way better than any brushed/nimh spec class ever was. Batterys will be so much better and last much longer and I bet you wont have to buy 5 to get a good one like you do in nimh. Motors will be more equal out of the box and will last longer and you can pratice with the motor you will race and not have to remove it from the car. Now you can spend all that time where it counts, suspension setup and driving. No chasing the motor of the or battery of the month, costing us all less in the long run. You can so easily sell your brushless motor and lipo that you own now here in DODC, hobbytalk, ebay etc etc.

What the DODC has done is the best thing for us racers! Wake up and smell the coffee!
and think just a lil before you type/talk

Brian I think your getting upset over virtually nothing. This set of guidelines was developed to replace an outdated 20 year set of ROAR rules. The goal was to assist tracks with a consistent set of rules in the major classes which will hopefully encourage stability and stronger turnouts. It also provides a defined set of rules for Major National Events.

I don’t believe the intent was to say you must run under these rules at the local level. Much like the old ROAR rules I would expect the biggest strength of the DODC package will be a stable set of chassis, body, and wing rules that will likely be used as a baseline for most tracks. Some may also choose to adopt the motor and battery rules for the 13.5/17.5 classes and some may choose to open it up. It is really up to the local track and what works best for them. (Personally I think the 3200 DODC Lipo pack for the 13.5/17.5 is a good deal as it is reliable and will be stable for a couple of years maybe longer.) The open Lipo stuff will and is changing rapidly. For mod it does not matter but for the limited motor classes it could get real expensive in a short amount of time.

My guess is around this area not much will change regarding the Late Model class. The racing was good last year and the car counts seemed get larger as the season went on. I would suggest those who raced the class reallyhink about phasing in the DODC 3200 Lipo next year as it will save you money in the long run. Think about it this off seaon and talk with Allen, Bear, or Bill and let them know your thoughts.

For now get a LOSI 1/18 scale Late Model and come have some fun with us at Allen's this winter.

DirtOval.com Spec motors must be out of the box stock, with no modifications allowed. No parts of motors may be modified, altered or removed in any way. More specific Tech guidelines for motors will be available to all participating track owners and race organizers.

Mr Cutman,
was wondering how these motors were going to be teched?..can any of these top motor builders gain any advantage if they have the resources to do so?..its says no parts may be modified or removed..how will you be able to tell if this has or has not been done?

We will be working with the series and race organizers to educate them on how to tech the motors and various different things to look for. To answer your other question I dont feel any of the motor builders would be able to gain an advantage. The simple fact is that now there will be one motor to tech and a system for doing so. Under the current forms of 13.5 racing being done rarely is any one teching any motors because hardly anybody really even has a clue what to look for. This will make it much easier.

Thanks,
Rob

Since all his equipment that he presently owns is "ROAR" legal, whats the problem with him running at the oval tracks that are adopting "ROAR's" oval rules??!!

BTW OTR Speedway will allow you to run your current configuration.

Do you know for a fact your track is adopting these rules? Do you know for a fact they are not running a modified 13.5 class in addition to the DODC rules, if they adopt the DODC rules? Calm down, take a breath and wait to see what is going to happen where you race!

Look who holds and helps run the biggest events in the DO world these days. They run the show. They make the rules.

I've learned that if you don't like what "they" tell you to do... Then find another hobby or another segment of this hobby. Because it's "Their" way or the highway.
