This was under the National rules By Todd Putnam
-One or more of the sprint car manufacturers effected by this rule had prior knowledge for quite some time that a width rule was going to be implemented, and yet still decided to make changes and widen the cars they were currently producing after having this knowledge. Now that the rules have been released, I applaud them as they have stepped up and are working with their customers to rectify their problems.

Here is from Post#123 on the thread: "I also will give Dustin credit here, rather than getting on here and complaining he has already offered a solution that can get everybody on to the next page so we can move forward. That being said I will also tell you that Dustin and I have had several conversations over the last year in which he inquired as to whether or not we would have a width rule for sprints at the open wheel race this year. In every conversation I told him yes but I did not at the time know what it would be. He informed me that he wanted to make a hood mold but needed to know how wide to make it. I simply told him if you keep it inline with the majority of cars that are out there it should be fine. I knew the World of Outlaws were coming out with new rules that would allow for wider hoods and I wanted to account for that and use that for the dimension that we used. That way no one could cry foul! For whatever reason he made a car with a hood that is apparently over an inch wider than most of the sprint car hoods out there. I am not throwing stones at Dustin here. As I said I give him an atta boy for understanding our intentions here and quickly coming up with a solution so that we can all move forward. "
It looks like it had been discussed and appears that the decision was made without Dustin and Mike from JRC's input or a minimal amount of it at that. I would take from this statement that it was implied that if you keep the car looking like a sprint car you should be fine, but it appears that has changed now.
I guess i don't think Todd probably meant to say that in the way that its going to be perceived from us that have these outlaw cars as someone could easily look at it and think what they want. I have talked to Dustin quite a few times over the last couple years and in no way would he produce a car that he knew was going to be illegal. Both Dustin and Barry at Hyperdrive are class acts and will continue to produce some of the best oval cars in the country. I'm looking forward to this all being resolved so we can move forward with it and get the new cars out and running. I just hope that the cost for them to rectify the situation isn't too costly as i'm a bit concerned about that aspect being that GFRP is just side business for Dustin. I'm going to continue to race Hyperdrives for as long as i'm racing for sure. Later.

I too think Dustin did not intend to create an illegal car. If he did, then he knew he'd be taking a loss down the road, which, he obviously stated he wouldn't have made all the chassis plates giving him $2500-$3000 of useless graphite.
I am currently starting to build the new electric sprint and nitro sprint. The electric I'm going to put parts together and be ready for the chassis once a solution is determined. The nitro car is going to be built completely, just so I have something to finger F with Murphy to determine what a setup should be.
I have plenty of faith in Dustin to modify the chassis to a configuration which is still more than capable of kicking butt.

The truth:
A- I do make about 35-40% of my living off of the R/C industry. Not only thru GFRP but thru my machine shop. Barry does make 100% of his living off of R/C.
B- I had talked to Rob several times about this topic. He told me they weren't sure as to what the rule would be. At the Freeze he told me that they shouldn't be deemed illegal since they were already produced. But they didn't want the cars to get out of hand, so they were going to implement some rules for how wide they would be. I agreed that they probably should do that. I sure as hell didn't expect them to be illegal.
C- We will do everything in our power to make sure that our customers are taken care of.
