Ned, Keith Watson and I rode out together last night for the club show, to get dialed in for the weekend. Harris was there tuning on his Nitro stuff, Robbie and some others getting their electric cars dialed in.

Todd worked on the track, with more finishing touches to take place between now and the race. :thumbsup:

Yes the forecast isn't the best; but if we've learned anything over the years its that the weather man is only right half of the time (and that's a good year !!).

We will take it hour by hour and not discuss moving the show until absolutely forced to.

IF required, the rain date will be Sunday, the start to be confirmed later, but i would propose we move it up 2 hours to get everyone home early in the evening.

Put in the books; WDRA Eastern Series Race #2 was completed on schedule!
With the final WDRA & CD R/C Racers 1 Mother Nature 0

She tried a few years ago to rain us out but to no avail, so this weekend, despite a forecast of 80% change of hard thunder storms, we were spared.

There was small shower around 10 am that delayed practice until 1:00pm and sprinkles for a minute around 5:00; but that was it.

It was a small field of 42 entries, about 37 drivers. I don’t blame anyone w\for not making the haul with the forecast, and there where obviously a few that apparently waited until the last minute as I set up the heats three times in the last 15 minute due to “just in time” arrivals.

Despite threatening weather, dark clouds all day long all around us; occasional high wind gust that threatened to topple a few easy ups and played havoc with the cars as they entered turn three the program went off without a hitch.

In the 13.5 Brushless class it was Jason Blum TQ and putting three laps on the field in his beautiful #20 Putnam Propulsion ride; followed by Marty B, Jeff W, and Mike W.

19T Big Block saw a hotly contested battle between two Putnam Propulsion drivers Jeff H and the boss himself Todd P. They started 1, 2 and finished the exact same way; but it was anything but easy. Several times Jeff would get a little bit of a lead, only to see Todd reel him and measure the youngster for just when to pounce. The opportunity appeared to present itself with about 15 to go when Jeff got loose in turn three, Todd made the move under, only to have Jeff’s car knife down, bounce off the #2 and take off down the front straight with enough of a lead to hang on to claim the victory. They were followed by Eric S (who didn’t have a full heat and started 7th), Rob Snyder (who missed TQ only due to the strong winds that made his side panels flap like a young bird trying to fly, and slowing him down); Jason Blum, Shilo B, and TJ Holt.

EDM Mod (Write up to be added as I don’t have the sheet now) Results were:
Jason Blum 55 laps
Jeff H 55 laps
Eric salvas 53 laps
Shilo boyce 53 laps
Pace gendron 38 laps

Trucks where a near full field and offered a great battle between the CD R/C Racers Dave Lareau (running a center batter T-4) and Jeff Winzens (and his offset chassis and Pro-Truck aero body). Dave squeaked out TQ and lead the first half of the race when Jeff had a little trouble in traffic, but in the end Jeff walked away followed by Dave, Rich Resue, Brian Tobey, and Jay Williams.

Small Blocks continue to be the most popular class in the series with 20 entries. This made for three full 8 car fields and the potential for disaster by unforeseen circumstances very high. The C main was lead early by Mitch Wing in that brand new Putnam Pro-Car he won at the Summer Nationals; but was collected on lap 6 and relegated to 5th. Then it was John Browns turn to lead. (Side story, the guy shows up with only a nitro car and no one to race against. But, we locate a CD R/C Racer that had a Putnam car for sale for him to borrow and Frenchie lends John some batteries and John get to race! You guys are the greatest). On lap 9 John bobbles and falls to 3rd, handing the lead to Ned Van (3rd week back on dirt after years of only carpet); who never looked back taking home the win. Justin Barber had no luck in his heats, not making his first heat, and no speed in the second. Starts 6th, finds himself 3rd by lap 10, and runs down Matt Wing taking the second transfer position. Mitch raced his way back to 3rd, but traffic never let him get any closer.

The B-Main repeated the pattern with pole sitter John Ellington finding trouble on lap 5, dropping him from first to 7th! Frenchie’s luck went from bad to worse on lap 5 when the 3J pulled off without power. Randy Dumas started 2nd and took the lead for a lap, but Jim Johnson was loaded for bear and charged through to lead the next 2 laps, but then bobbled. Randy re-took the and took home the checkers. Kyle Stangle sporting new lexan, and perhaps a new chassis (to be confirmed) started 4th, but had a bad start and crossed the stripe last. But the youngster was up to 3rd by lap 6 and wrestled the second position away from his stable mate Jim J on lap 8. They played cross-over for two laps before Kyle pulled away for good; taking the second transfer spot. John would get back to third, but when all the carving was done, he was 2 laps back.

The A-Main featured the same front row as the previous WDRA race at the Master Hobbies oval; team Autotask (yes I work for Bob). Bob in his Putnam Pro Car and me in the Putnam house ride. Only this time Bob had the TQ). The field was rounded out by Romano Conti, Dave Lareau, Dave Bryan, Tom Hargrave (second run on dirt EVER !) and the two bumps from the B; Randy and Kyle. At the horn Bob and I started to pull away a little and settle in for some fun. On lap six disaster struck me as I ran into the slow car on the back stretch and peeled the left body panel back past the center point of the car (aka parachute) in the mess most of the field was gathered up in classic big one style with only Bob and Romano have clean laps; and that’s the way they ran for the rest of the race, I was too busy trying to keep out of everyone’s way with the left turn signal taking up 2+ car widths. Tom used the incident to his favor to move from 6th to 3rd between laps 6 and 7 with thos three cars finishing on the lead lap. They were followed by Kyle, Dave , Randy, Dave, and the Peeled one.

I have learned never to bet against the CD R/C Racers when it comes to beating Mother Nature. When Team NEDVAN arrived @ 10:00, we sat in Ned's "Hauler" until it stopped raining. At noon, there was a puddle in the infield...by 3:00, we had to stop practice to water the track! What a turnaround...http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/smilies/thumbup.gif

Excellent day of racing, and an excellent turnout considering the forecast. 42 racers ran 2 heats and the mains, with bump ups and track watering breaks in just 4 hours...It was nice to be done racing by 9:00 PMhttp://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/smilies/woohoo.gif

Team Putnam had another excellent WDRA Series Race. The Putnam chassis and motor combination swept all 4 Open Wheel Classes once again, taking down the TQ and Win in EDM Small Block, EDM Big Block, EDM 13.5, and EDM Mod!
