Joe’s Hobbies Speedway Up Next to Host Putnam Propulsion Western SDS
The 4th and final leg of the WDRA Putnam Propulsion Super Dirt Series, Western Region will head to Joe’s Hobbies in Lockport, NY on Saturday July 5th. This will be the second year for the track at Joe’s on the WDRA circuit.
In the first ever WDRA race at Joe’s last year, Jason Blum captured his first WDRA A-Main win in the Big Block division, and then turned around and snagged the Modified class checkered flag as well. Dan Gill and Matt Olmsted chased Blum across the line both divisions, only swapping 2nd and 3rd between the classes.
In the Small Block division Mike Jeffery took one of his class leading 6 wins at Joe’s in 2007. Rob Hillman and Dave Harris took second and third. These 2 drivers would have to be considered the favorites for 2008, as Jeffery has moved up to the newly formed brushless division.
Western Series points will be finalized at Joe’s. With a driver’s worst finish being dropped from the final point standings, Jeff Hotaling, on the strength of 3 wins has locked up the Western Series Big Block 19t title. Matt Olmsted, with 3 top 5 finishes appears to have 2nd locked up, while Dylan Watier is currently in third. Watier will be looking for a good showing at his home track, as Jason Blum, Chris Taylor, Dan Gill and Shilo Boyce all have a mathematical shot at the third spot.
In the Small Block Ranks, Rob Hillman leads the pack with 2 wins, with Barry Wallace in second. Unofficially, if Wallace finds victory lane at Joe’s, Hillman will need to finish 7th or better to secure the Western Series crown. Joe Rodriguez is currently in third, and unofficially will need a win, Hillman to finish 13th or worse and Wallace to finish 5th or worse to take the crown.
The 13.5 Brushless standings are a bit clearer cut, as Bob Baker’s 2 wins and a second place finish lock him into the title. Tom Anderson is currently in second place, but 3rd place Mike Jeffery could overtake him. Anderson will need a 3rd place finish to secure second place, even if Jeffery were to take the win.
The track will open for practice at 2pm. The first heat will roll at 4:00. Joe’s Hobbies Speedway is located at 5659 Upper Mountain Road, Lockport, NY 14094.
