What an awesome event!
Beautiful weather and blue skies set the stage for the 64 entries to go head to head on the Master Hobbies banked oval.
With practice starting at 2:00, the concern for how the racing surface would hold up quickly passed as the track was able to be kept moist and smooth. This is the only R/C dirt oval track I have ever raced at that has a double drum vibratory roller to smooth and compact the track surface-impressive!!!
Thanks to all who traveled to make this event a success. It was great to see my R/C family and friends-
Special thanks to all of the Putnam Propulsion customers and team guys for their continued support. Your efforts resulted in TQ's in EDM Small Block, EDM Big Block and EDM Nitro, then sweeping all 3 of these classes with A-Main wins as well. :checkeredflag: :trophy:

Notes:
-Small Block:
Small Block was the largest class, with entries extending all the way down to an E-Main. It was "The Voice of the CDRC Racers" Kirt Coonradt taking down his first ever WDRA TQ-Honors with his 2008 Putnam Pro-Car ride. Congrats Driver!!!
Only Two EDM Small Blocks broke the 50 lap barrier, with Kirt Coonradt and Bob Godgart putting their Putnam Pro-Cars solidly on the front row. They swapped their quailifying positions in the A-Main with Godgart taking down his first WDRA Series win, Coonradt 2nd, and their fellow Putnam Propulsion teammate Romano Conti filling the podium with his 3rd place finish.
Dave Lareau won the B-Main, transferred to the A-Main and was in position for a solid 3rd-4th place finish until getting collected in a wreck, but still managed to come home in 6th.
Congrats to Kirt on his TQ and Bob on his victory!!! You guys were awesome! Since they both work together at Autotask, it will sure make for a great week of bragging rights at the water cooler...
-Big Block:
It was Putnam Propulsion's own Shilo Boyce grabbing his first ever WDRA TQ and A-Main win. All the effort Shilo has pout in since returning to R/C is paying off, and he is becoming a consistent front runner at both the weekly shows as well as the series races. Hotaling finished 2nd, Blum 4th, Brauer 5th and Moran 7th. Awesome team work guys!
EDM Mod:
Surprisingly, this class only had 6 entries. Jason Blum came home 3rd with Brauer in 4th. Good job guys.
EDM Nitro:
With $500 to win from Dave Loughead on the line, this class drew entries from PA,NY and NJ to compete for the cash!
The trips down the Thruway for Jeff Hotaling paid off in qualifying, as he took down TQ honors. The Top 3 cars all qualified within 1 second of each other, so it was sure to be an exciting main.
At the halfway mark of the 60 lap feature, yours truly had a 2 lap lead on the field, with 2nd place right in front of me. Then disaster struck, with Shilo Boyce clipping the berm in 3 and 4, causing him to spin right in front of me. I clipped him, popping the RF shock off the ball stud. I did all I could to keep my car out front for the remaining laps on 3 shocks, and almost pulled it off, but Terry Schmitt proved to be too strong passing me with 2 to go. Terry claimed the Dave Loughead Hunter Car Star $500 prize with me finishing in 2nd. Shilo Boyce was one lap back from the leaders in 3rd, with Hotaling and Moran finishing 6th and 7th.
Side Note: That makes Terry Schmitt undefeated in 2008 with his Pro-Nitro ride, winning the February Freeze as well. If the Yankees only had a closer as good as Schmitt...
Fun Facts:
-Fastest Lap turned of the event: 4.1 By Boyce, Hotaling, Watier and Blum in 19 turn Big Block, and by Todd Putnam in EDM Nitro- but no 4.1's were turned in EDM Mod. How strange is that?!?
-In the EDM Small Block Stock class, Connradt and Godgart turned 4.3's in the main, only 1 tenth off the Open Mods and 2 tenths off the fastest lap time turned- How strange is that?!?
-I have stated that even though the track has a 175' groove, it drives like a short track. I guess the lap times really supports that-but I had no idea to that degree...:o
A big thanks and applause to Mike Castelluccio and Todd Moran for an awesome facility, and Chrissy and Charles for the awesome concession stand that kept the tribes fed.
Special Thanks to Wally and Kirt for another well organized / well executed event.
