Putnam Propulsion Super Dirt Series Championship to Kick Off at Fingerlakes

The WDRA Putnam Propulsion Super Dirt Series will head to Fingerlakes Raceway on Saturday May 17th. This will be the first event on the combined Championship Series. Fingerlakes Raceway has been on the Super Dirt Series schedule since the WDRA was founded in 2001, and has hosted the Summernationals 5 times.

In 2007, Pete D’Agnolo swept both Modified and Big Block Stock during the Summernationals at Fingerlakes, while it was eventual series champion Mike Jeffery taking the checkered flag in the Small Block Class.

This year classes running for points in the Championship Series will be Big Block Modified, Big Block 19-turn, Small Block and Brushless EDM. Also joining the action will be second leg of the JRC Sprint Car Challenge Series. Gates open at 9am. Racing starts at noon. Sunday will be used as a rain date. The track is located at 3865 Rts 5 & 20 Geneva Turnpike Canandaigua N.Y 14424.

Ok guys, here's the deal. Neither day this weekend looks real great, but I think we might actually be able to get it in tomorrow (Saturday).

If we don't...I will not make everyone come back Sunday, because its supposed to be pretty COLD...high around 50...and if its wet, that will feel really cold. If we don't get it in, I'll look for a date later on in the year that is open, or if there really isn't one, I may cancel all together.

If you have any questions, call me at 716-307-3902. I should be up by 7am.

it cleared up at around 3:00pm and when we left there at 5:30 or so the sun was out and very nice I think the gun was jumped today should have looked at the radar :(

Bulldog_Wally14

We were looking at radar, and it darn sure looked like it was going to rain for a while....

I hit plenty of rain on my way home as well.

Well it cleared up and was rather nice, when it all passed. With gass prices the way they are it is a shame that it was CALLED TO EARLY.

you guys gotta realize, wally is always looking out for the racers best interest and you need to give him the benefit of any doubt

...and if we would have kept waiting and it had kept raining every half hour, everyone would have bitched because I kept them sitting around for nothing.......

Someone had to make a decision, and we did based on the radar and the look of they sky... we did what we thought was right. Your local weather man gets paid to be wrong about the weather on a daily basis...I do it for free.

...and as for gas prices, I drove 2 hrs getting 15mpg...and only ran one battery pack all day, so don't preach to me about that.

the Legend

Called it too early???? You try to run the WDRA, and see how "easy" it is to make EVERYONE happy.
I find it funny that one of the closest racers would complain about gas prices, but the guy that drove the farthest doesn't.
BTW,I have driven to the track the last 2 Wednesdays,to watch it get rained out.

Wally,you are doing a great job.

wally you made the right call!!

your decision 110%. Like fred said you have our best interest in mind
when making any decision!

you were right on, Wally. As I recall, didn't you ask for a show of hands on who wanted to call the race? Maybe not..... I might have been dreaming. Anyhow, if you do decide to award "show points", I'd like to point out that I paid Baker's entry fee, and his car never touched the track. Therefore, I feel it is only proper that I be awarded his points as well as mine.

It amazes me that some people will sit on the forums and give Wally s*%t the next day and critisize him for a decision that was made by the majority of the racers. I know firsthand all to well what its like as a promotor to deal with weather conditions like yesterday. I raised my hand to call the show after I looked at the radar, and I drove farther than most did to come to this race despite the fact I knew there was a chance of it raining out. Based on the radar, it looked to keep tormenting us the rest of the afternoon with rain every half hour. Wally made the right call and you must really respect Greg for offering racers back some money even though most of the first round of heats had been run.Look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks at Little O.

Wally and Greg,

You did the right thing. By the time the track would have dried up, who's to say another storm wouldn't have hit to make us wait around for another few hours. I drove about 2 and a half hours one way and I was happy to make the trip to not only see everyone and get out of the house for a while, but to also support the WDRA and the job Wally's doing. Did everyone know that he didn't even run in his heat race in order to not slow up the show? He's not going to make everyone happy, we all know that, so he left left it up to the majority of the racers to stay and wait it out or call it. In additon to that, Greg was nice enough to give some entry fee money back, so he understands the racers gas hardships also. Great job again to Wally AND Greg for the strong attempt to get it in.

Are you going have a make up date for this race?

Wally caling it was the right thing to do. I wasn't their, but I was in Auburn NY. I thought it was nutz to race between rain drops. So even if I could have raced I wouldn't have come. I hate racing between rain drops! But if you have a make up race maybe I can make that one!

Bring your rain tires to little o as they dont cancel any races because of rain. They make everyone MUD IT IN. This is real racin country, A little mud never hurt anyone.

Ran there two weeks ago when everone else but 3 of us stayed and blasted around the track, until it was so wet, there was standing water from the bottom of the turns to the middle of the turns. Got a little messy for bystanders too!

At the time Wally I was extremely disappointed with the call to throw the towel in so easily. And being as I live to the west of Canandaigua and the weather usually goes from the west to the east....We drove home the whole way home in perfect sun and once home I watered in the Lil O and we raced the rest of the evening in perfect weather. So in hind sight you made the wrong call.

That being said.....You Did the RIGHT Thing. You put it to the racers and took a vote. The sissies wanted to go home so we did.

I dont Blame Wally one bit. Wally you're the man and I for one do respect the time and effort you put into the WDRA and Dirtoval racing. Thank You!

I blame the sissy ass racers. :D

I hope everyone enjoyed sitting on their butts all night....Dont Bother Me None I Still Got To Race:checkeredflag:

i too was disappointed.. i was the last to leave the track, the sun was out and i wanted to take the tarps off the track and do some laps.

the show of hands clearly was with the "lets go home racers" but unfortunately if we had waited we could have finished the racing. "majority rules" sometimes is not the best course to take, although is followed most of the time.

i do not blame Wally because he was the pivot man and no matter what he did was going to be wrong to somebody. i blame the guys i heard talking about "oh, i got something else to do" or "i want to go home and watch the nascar race" and were the first ones to say lets go home. personally i came to race and would have stayed till midnight if thats what it took.

PS: solly must of got tired of dancing around 3pm...LOL

I wish you would have made a announcement at the track that if you want to drive west about a 1 1/2 you can race at a track that does not mind a little mud. I know quite a few drivers would have been glad to drive a few miles to JUST Race. We saved that day to race, not to do other things. I did not see anyone acually counting hands and comparing it to the total racers at the drivers meeting. But I guess it did happen. Next time this happens lets just race. Bring those rain tires.
