I have 25 Kryptonite trannys ready to go, and more on the way. For those of you not familiar with this we have sold about 150 of our first run which were delrin cases. Tired of rebuilding ball diffs? This thing is indestructible, we stock all replacment parts, and probably within 4 months they will be available through the distributors so replacement parts shouldn't be a problem. Retail is $140
Please purchase through the online buyers club (or have your retailer contact us), you must sign up for pricing and purchasing. http://www.bumpsandjumpsrc.com/Store/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_90&products_id=243

Larry, if you use the Niftech flat swiveling dog bone pins outdrive wear is greatly reduced. Just guessing that is your worry, as it would be mine.

not familiar with those, will they hold up to nitro use? i know some of the creations i've seen in the past to prevent outdrive wear were no good on nitro.

Outdrives are $12 for the pair.
Yes the gears are hardened steel.
You can greatly reduce wear with a little grease.
There are about 75 out there running now, if anyone can give there opinions.
Thanks

I have been running this transmission in my Nitro Latemodel for the past 5 months and it is virtually bullet proof, just add black grease and and no more diff rebuilds, the only thing I have replaced is the outdrives and since I started putting grease in the outdrives wear is not a problem. This thing is awesome !
On a side note it was rumored that I dropped out of the "A" at the Freeze due to a trans failure, this was not the case, it was the mechanics fault for not tightening the front screws in the trans which led to a stripped spur gear..... oops!

i have them in my nitro truck with a 5 port rody and in our limited srint and late models, i couldnt keep an associated trans together in my truck til this tranny came along.

brian, do the outdrives last as long as the gt ones, assuming u dont run grease on either(not that the gt ones last long, but its at least acceptable)? i assume the diff and outdrives are from some on road car, and i know some of those outdrives can be super soft, and not a lot of life in them. the grease may help on a good clay or clean indoor track but our tracks are so sandy i dont see the grease helping here. i'm ready to pull the trigger i just want to make sure i'm not trading ball diff rebuilds for outdrive diff rebuilds.

They last just as long as associated outdrives maybe even longer......

I wonder if there is enough clearance on the side of this diff assy for the compound idler gear in the GT2 tranny? Is the diff gear itself same width as the stocker?
MRDmotorsports
May 12th, 2008, 9:54 AM
The diff gear seems to be the same, and the idler is the robinson idler gear. Problem I see is the reason there is a specific tranny case is because of how wide the middle part of the diff is, not sure if that would allow any use with the gt2....

Diff gear is almost twice as wide as the stock
It also uses 10x15 bearings on the outdrives.
I am working on a GT-2 case as we speak :D

You tha man! GT2 tranny is very sturdy, that gear diff would be sweet.

any chance of a plastic case being available later? i prefer plastic/nylon(whatever stock gt material is) over delrin or alum.

May 19th, 2008, 3:07 PM
I am not sure what material the stock GT case is - if I had to guess it is delrin - just molded delrin. There is not a chance for us to ever mold a part, the molds cost a fortune and the minimum order for an injected part is way over my head. Sorry. I don't know if we will go back to the delrin case - right now the aluminum case is both lighter and stronger at not much more money. Sorry I wish I had the answer you were looking for.

no problem, i was just checking. my main concern was how the alum cases i've had in the past had tight fit around the bearings but after some use end up very loose around the bearings, and end up being an expensive piece of garbage. where as i've never had a stock gt case loosen up around a bearing no matter how old it is. this may not be a problem w/ your alum case(i hope). but i may try some loctite bearing retainer on this one, to try and prevent the problem.

any suggestions on where to start w/ diff oil? i was guession 1k?
bumps and jumps rc
May 19th, 2008, 6:47 PM
I have seen that too in the past, I made the bearings a very tight fit. I think the bearing in some cases actually slips inside the case and then wallows itself a bigger hole. I made them tight so that should never happen. Most are using about 3k or 5k diff oil, also quite a few are leaving out the spring inside for a looser feeling diff.

You guys are really making some cool stuff!
I have a question about the tranny if you dont mind........
Are the outdrives on your gear diff the same distance apart as the ball diffs are? Basically, do you use the same length bone when this tranny is installed in a car/truck?
If this has already been covered, I appologize.
Thanks for any info.

The outdrives are slightly wider than the ball diff. It works in everything I have tried - except the terminator - but not due to the outdrive width, due to the arm mounts hitting the side of the tranny.

Hey thanks for the quick response. I appreciate that.
So are you talking maybe .100" wider or more? Just an approximate.
Also, how about the height? How much higher will the center of the outdrives be off the plate verses the GT tranny?
MRDmotorsports
May 20th, 2008, 12:52 PM
Jeff:
The height seems to be the same. I have it in a terminator right now, but I run all of my trannies with a spacer under them so I have no problems with the arm mounts hitting.....

Height is exactly the same just a little wider, I have never measured how much wider, I just kept trying it in every car I could find to make sure it works.

Chris,
once I can track down the link wire for my camera to the computer I will send you a picture of how it would work on a terminator. I made the parts myself, pretty simple. I am in the process of making a small part to attach so that you can use the brake system that Chad at dynotec uses....

This transmission is very cool! I've been flipping the diff assembly every week to balance outdrive wear. I haven't noticed any problems, but I'm wondering if there is any problems with doing this? Is there a right and wrong orientation for the diff assembly?

Can you still get one of the Kryptonite trannys with a delrin case? I figure that might shave an ounce or two maybe?

yeah i know what your talking about dale. the problem with a all metal tranny is the wear on the diff balls. use the the original stock gear and run the risk of melting the diff gear when the track is that high bite. didn't have any problems with my BMS diff.
