Putnam Propulsion Phantom Works has been hard at work on a sprint car based on the Putnam Pro Car. The Pro Sprint Car brings the Championship winning design of the Putnam Pro Car to the winged world of sprint car racing.
You will be able to have the best of all worlds, the geometry and performance of the Putnam front end, the efficient and adjustable Custom Works rear end AND a standard width sprint car cage and hood. No longer will you have to fabricate body panels and sacrifice the realistic look of a sprint car.
Testing and refinement are in work with more to follow. The pictures below show the car rear mounted, however, the production version will have mid mount capability.

Looks nice Scott. After I put a couple of laps on you what’s the E-bay auction number going to be? :D

Todd - The rain has finally stopped and the sun is shining so I have had a chance to do some testing on the prototype Putnam Pro Sprint Car. I am running on loose dirt with buggy tires (Losi IFMAR Pins early in the night and Inside Jobs late) the track is roughly a 240 drive line with high banked, tight turns.
Things I think I think after two nights with the prototype
The first night out the car was in the mid motor configuration. Early in the night the car was awesome everywhere; into the corner, mid corner and off of the corner. However, as the night progressed and the track slicked off, the car picked up a loose off of the turn condition. I was fast qualifier by nearly .4/lap (we run two laps on the clock like the World of Outlaws to seat the heats). I held TQ until the third qualifier when i was bumped to second by 1.2 seconds on the clock. Finished second in the a-main by 1.6 seconds with no drive off of the corner. I think I learned two things that night: 1.) In a situation where there is medium to high traction (i.e. a foam tire track) this car will be incredible with mid motor it turns everywhere with no bad habits. 2.) For loose dirt tracks the rear motor configuration may be favorable initially. There is no doubt a way to make the car mid motor on the buggy tire tracks, it will just take more setup work.
The second night out I switched to rear motor configuration. For loose dirt, this was a much better set up. With a rear toe and spring change, it turned every where like the mid motor, but had a ton of drive off of the corner. In qualifying, i took a tenth and a half off of the previous weeks fast lap, was fast qualifier, won three heat races, TQ'd and won the main.
To tell just how much I like this car, I took one of my old sprints that benefits from two years of set up experience on our track with me and gave it a try. Five laps latter it was sitting back on the pit table where it will stay until the production run of Pro Sprints hits the market and I can make it a Pro Sprint.
More to come as I work with the car.

Sounds good Scott. I take it there is no timeline as to when production would begin? I got 3 GBX's and would like to atleast convert one over.

I'll have to defer to T.P. on that one.

Are we going to get some "neckeed" pics of the chassis?? Also to convert a GBX over what parts would be used from the GBX?

looks like from the pics the whole rear end would go onto the sprint car chassis. todd may have some different bulkhead and or shock towers but i wouldnt see why u couldnt use the whole rear end. i dont think anything else would be interchangable.

Dave, Post some info about the track your running,And I`m sure we can help with your set-up. I personally built my Sprint 1 week before the Open Wheel and Qual.5th in the A and finished 4th.

we run a 185' run line with some banking. the dirt is a sandy loam that stays packed down pretty well. in the summer it gets pretty hard and a little dusty. i'll be running a cc sidewinder 5700 and lipo batteries. we run buggy tires. i'm not a great wheel man so i need a predictable easy to drive setup... i appreciate your help. Dave:thumbsup:

I ran one all summer on loose dirt. Start with this and it should be a good start for ya.
Wide arms all the way around, if the putnam ones aren't available yet dynotech makes them (just order the ones for the havoc). Also with this you'll need longer turnbuckles. This will be very much worth your money, makes the car a lot more stable and easier to drive.
Front- associated TC shock, 40 wt. oil, buggy silver spring. Adjust front droop to get more or less turn off (less droop means more turn off, more means less turn off)
Rear- 1* toe both sides, B4 buggy shock (TC shock will work too), 8 lb kipps spring (or something comparable), 40 wt. oil.
You'll want the rear turnbuckle lengths to be as long as you can get them and as high as you can get them. On the front, i ran them in the middle set of holes on the bulkhead. And you'll want to use a couple of 2 mm washers underneath the ball stud in the bulkhead.
This should be a very good starting point. I ran very well with this setup, and was always within a couple of turns on the shocks, or a small wing change of being spot on. If you have any other questions just send me a pm, or send Todd a pm, He is pretty helpful on setup.

thanks for the info, i haven't talked to todd lately but when i ordered it we discussed needing it built for buggy tires and a 7 x 7 wing so i'm sure it will be great right out of the box. i will keep this info and give it a try. thanks again and i'll let you know how my first race with it goes. Dave

Make sure when you build your 7x7 wing to build it to max dimensions. And always run a nose wing. To quote Arnie Fie, " running a 6" wing and no nose wing is like bringing a knife to a gun fight."
