Raceplace 1985 celebrity race!

Below are some pics from the first celebrity race we ran at the Raceplace, Qmart in Quakertown, Pa. In the morning the celebrity drivers ran R/C cars on carpet with modified bodies painted like their real modified rides.
Then in the afternoon they would head up to the slot car track and race together, again with cars painted like the real deal. It was always a blast!

Gary Butler won the RC race and the slot car race that day. he was a regular with us in both classes for years.

WOW that brings back memories! i see bobby stahl in the top pic! it was my summer job to vacuum and wash down those slot car tracks! lol Tom gave me my first airbrush for christmas! i remember watching the indoor races on that tiny green indoor track in the bingo hall! if u remember Raceplace had Dennis thomas's modified on display in the store..back when Lee & Snowman worked there.. i remeber the RacePlace outdoor celebrity race when there was a shootout behind the mart with the state police...

Tom sure knew how to promote and put on a great show! he use to have celebrity races at Miller Motorsports to.. i had Richie Tobias,Pauch, and Mark Kenyon crash/race my rc car lol... in fact when pauch drove my car he cut through the infield for a better finish lol... Newt hartman almost started a fist fight over it... Steve Delong remembers! lol..... I think in the bottom pic in the yellow is Lee Toyers wife Joy, and I think Brian Prices wife stepping out on the track..and might be Beth and Freddy at the table??

Yup you are right Ross. Thats Lee's wife Joy. That Laura, Who is Brian Prices wife, at the time she was my girlfriend. Beth who is John Willmans wife now. Ross did you do the celeb race at the Flemmington mall? I had the privledge of having the late Ray Batemen drive my car there.

Beth is going to love it when I tell her she is on dirt oval. Hey Ross that awards picture with Lee is great. The tall kid on the end is Leo Ruffing who lived next to me back then, he just did all the HVAC in my house & garage. The kid in the middle is Jack Barnes Jr., I still see him up at Big Diamond a few times a year. He helps Brad Force on his Sporstsman.

Look at my 10 gallon Associated hat keeping my SUPER MULLET together!!:ha: And the early AMB transponder scoring system on the table just in front of Laura! WTF!! You had to push a button each time your colored flag went past the start/finish line!:ha: I'm sure you guys remember that stuff!

This is my Frank Cozze hot rod ready for the first celeb race. The body was painted by Randy "Jake" Fluerer the week before the race. Jake was/is a hellava sign painter!

I really liked that ride back then, good looking car. Frank's really twisting your car into the turn. Man Fred you make me feel old with these pictures. Did I ware that yellow Race Place shirt every week??:D

Hey Fred When are you going to start racing again ???? Give me till the middle of August and you can race one of my house cars. I'm getting married on the 4th of July, then once that is complete we can go racing. Nick Deangelis (rodger) do you hear me now. Can't wait to hook up with Nick again and enjoy his company and have a great time. GGR and P&H Motorsports ready to rumble. Lets go racing boys. Ross, the itch I have is turning into a rash. If the right nitro car comes across the classifieds it will be mine!
