Being new to nitro,I was wondering what tires I should consider at willow mill. Some friends of mine run pan cars there and said they run the hardest foam they can find.My question is,who makes the hardest foam truck tires,or would a rubber slick with a hard insert work as well or not.Any thoughts???

i will try my best to answer your question....
i have heard that rad "B" tires are the way to go for trucks...but there may be a small issue there, i have not heard from roger himself but its my understanding that he is not making tires right now. If you wanted to contact him to see if he still has truck tires available, his contact name on here is RAD tire (http://dirtoval.com/forums/member.php?u=3567).
As far as rubber tires go, i have never heard of anyone using them there so i cannot give you any feedback on them.
good luck

Some of us locals around this area get together and parking lot bash before the tracks open up here. So far we've Proline stykers and the duratrax street tracs to work quite well. Hope that helps some! :D

Yeah,
from our parkin' lot time I'd say Duratrax Street Tracs. They are cheap and should yield good traction. They have a pretty thick tread so tire balloning with them should be minimal if you use a good firm insert. Mike and I already have them so that's what we'd probably run. I don't think there will be a need for special foams for one race. I plan to run my Jato instead of my GT since it's heaver and should help w/ traction...

Thanks so much much for all the input.I've got some stryker tires with HARD inserts I think I'll try just for that race.If I find some hard foams before I'll bring 'em along and experiment. Thanks again!

I ran an asphalt track for 2 years, I tried stykers, street tracs, road hawgs, road rage,u name it for rubber street I tried them. And if u can run them, use Panther Burner Slicks.

Sean,
Who Says no production slicks? you need to look at this http://www.dirtoval.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27969
First off we the tour are not setting the rules for tires this season. So the best thing would be to contact the track owner and ask the question.
Hope this helps

Why no production slicks? Could I true the tread off my strykers and be legal??This sounds like a "grey" area, but I want to be legal!

I think ur best bet would be to contact willow mills and check about slicks, the panthers work good. And thank u JAC9 for clearing that up

Hey Jeff,
Yeah I knew that the Tour was following each tracks tire rules that's why I had made the statement. But I see the Mill doesn't even have rules for nitro trucks online so they will hopefully post them soon. (In the meantime I'll make the assumption that the rules will be the same as the rest of the PA tracks.)

Yeah Curt,
That's why I made the reasonable assumption that he would follow what the other Nitro Tour tracks on the PA tour were doing this year. (Which is no production slicks) Either way it's not that big of a deal.
I plan to run old street tracks because I don't want to spend $60 a set of rubber or foam tires for one race day(since it would be the only track that Rubber or hard foam would work). Plus I do think they will work pretty good. Althought there won't be much of any tread left on the rear!!! LOL.
I didn't get to the Mill last year for the exhibition race and it sounded like everyone really liked the track. It will be a lot of fun to get back on asphalt. It's been a decade since I raced on ashpalt other than parking lot racing.

I just got off the phone with George Verbonitz. He runs Willow Mill. He suggests that you run any foam tire, of coarse the firmer the better. Rubber tires will most likely not last more than maybe 1 heat, if that long. He suggests greens or harder. The track will be open May 1st and the track is open all day, every day for practice. For directions to the track check their website www.willowmill.com (http://www.willowmill.com). They have not set up the site for 08 but hopefully they should get to it soon.

Hopefully it won't burn off rubbers too bad...
I'd hate to buy 2 sets of tires for 2 classes just to use @ one race..

Are you running 13.5 as well as Truck? For the edm get a set of purples, they will run all day. Any set of truck foams will work. Even pinks will work, just won't last long. Rubber tires won't last through a good practice, I've run on the track and it will eat rubber tires off the car, right now. Plus the foams will be much faster.

ok thanks,
I didn't think rubber would dissapear that fast but I will have to take that into consideration. Maybe I will park the truck for that day and run the Sprint and 13.5 EDM instead. Do you think I'd be ok to run 1 set of Foams for both the Sprint and EDM??? I guess this is my first year running the full tour and have already spend over $200 on tires and hate to spend much more...:redflag:
Thanks again for the info. I've been writing down the little tid bits of setup info that have been posted.

The Mill has awsome bite. What kind of tires are you running? I'm running 13.5 which I'll run silvers or pinks depending. My Limited LM, I'll run pinks or 30's. Purples for The Mill and rf at some tracks.

Hey Curt,
is that for a set of mounted/trued truck foams? or just the foams?
I am running Silver's on my 13.5 EDM, and either Pinks or Silvers on my Sprint. Plus I have a few different makes of Silvers. (Coopers and BSR)For my GT& Jato I am planning to run Cooper's silvers.(plus i have a used set of greens that are REALLY cut down) I have old rubber tire rims... maybe I can cut them down to make rims for foams and just get some harder foamies to glue and true...??? thoughts?
Thanks for the help guys.

thats for mounted.
silvers arent even going to last 1 run on a nitro sprint car. Your going to want magenta's, purples, or C's.

ok,
I actually "clicked" the link... $17 a pair plus ship. not too bad. Do you think the greens would hold up to a day of racing @ the mill??? the description had them as a 32-34 duro tire compound. On a side note I see they have Silver's for like $22.50 a pair! That's a deal!
Thanks for the link Curt! :D

on a truck I would think they would last awhole day. Trucks doesnt seem to wear tires as bad as sprints, edms, etc.

1st..........TRUE Rubber Tires are a Joke @ the Mill and will burn up in 1 or 2 runs........
2nd........ UN-True Trucks are easier on tires..........(If you want to win that is)
3rd......... Green foams won't hold up either, although they will read 35 to 40 shores they are all synthetic with no natural rubber, that's why they cost less....... great for a kid in the street or parking lot....... that's about it..........
4th........Asphalt tires should be cut down to 3.00 and under, NO GROVES!!!!!
5th....... This Asphalt Truck race is going to be completely lopsided, due to this tire issue, (nobodies fault) never mind all the HP you got.............. even I don't have enough tires to run 4 trucks (Scooby, Brad, Wayne & I) so we are going to sit this one out.............
6th....... I have the following sets of tires that I will consider a fair offer for:
1) RAD "B"s 40 Shores 3.00 OD No Groves, Good Used Yellow GT Wheels, Tires MINT
2) COOPER's PINKS 40 Shores 2.85 OD No Groves Black Coopers Wheels Good Condition
3) RC4Less Silvers 38 Shores 3.175 With Groove, I can cut these down NEW w/Coopers wheels........... (Note about about Truck Foams the Shores Varies a LOT from batch to batch!)
4) Boosier 35 Shores 3.20 OD Grooved 1 run Like New, can cut down White GT Wheels
5) Boosier 35 Shores 3.20 OD Grooved couple of runs, very good condition, can cut down, Black GT wheels
6) If somebody really wants to win this race, I'm willing to consider an offer for my #1 Barts Truck, this is the truck Scooby TQ'd & won the 08 Feb Freeze with, I won the 06 & 07 PA Tour Championships with, it TQ'd with a NTR at The US Open @ Coopers in 06, plus won the Dash for Cash....... This Truck has won Newville, Stubs, B&J, Liberty Valley............Complete Race Ready with a 6 port 15 BB, only thing I'll take out is the AMB Transponder (you even get the Spectrum receiver & both Airtronics Servos) ............ I'm looking for about 50 cents on the dollar or it can sit with the trophies..........
PLEASE Don't tell me I'm in the wrong Forum!!! I'm really not trying to sell.........(I know it may look that way) this is just my opinion of the Trucks at the Mill & I'm trying to HELP...... Some of the petty BS that goes on here @ DIRTOVAL.com just trun me off.......
