I have had this rc10 since 1999 when a friend of mine passed away. I know very little about the conversion and was wanting to know if anyone knew what I have here. I did race this car this past summer at K-10 raceway in Marryville, Illinois. Any help would be great. Thanks Chad

It's a Terminator. It may be old enough to have been made by the original MFG.,R&D,[looks like it may be] it's still sold by Kranzel's RC,still a competative car...

thanks iron lou, it did do pretty good against the custom works cars for being nearly 20 years old.

You might want to look into getting a new set of front arms for it from Kranzel's..Once you break those Andy's arms, you'll never find another set,LOL!!

Now I have an interesting question..........

What does R&D stand for?

I ask because I have a hunch and know one of the people who designed the Terminator. Actually we all know him.

R&D stands for research and development

Hmmm... not in this case. If I recall correctly, the "R" was Rob Cutman (now of Custom Works) and "D" was Dave Kranzel of Kranzel's Hobbies. Rob designed that car originally. ;)

I might be wrong about that, and Rob can clear up the history of the Terminator a bit when he has a second, but it's definitely not research & development. LOL.

Yep..The "R" was definately Rob,not CERTAIN about Dave Kranzel being the "D",but you're probably right. How thick is the chassis? R&D made some really thin ones, like .060 graphite.

R&D stood for Rob and Dennis Cutman (my older brother). We started R&D hobbies in Hummelstown PA in 1987. Started selling the Terminator kits as the R&D Terminator in 1988. Actually just realized this is the Terminator's 20th Anniversary. Just dug up my original terminator this morning out of mom's basement and drug it over here to Bumps and Jumps for show and tell. Some guys were asking about the car yesterday and told me about this thread so I thought I would bring it out of the dungeon to see some new light. Incredibly the Kyosho Option House Gold shocks that are on it still feel great. Considering that car was not run since April of 1990 that is hard to believe. May post some pics on here when I get time since I am sure everyone will be asking. Thanks for the interest.

I remember a guy from upstate NY bought a car after a trip to PA around 1990. I asked what it was and why he bought it. He always liked cars that were different. It ran good his first time out.

It's funny how the cars that run around here now are just spin offs of the original terminator. The same style nose butt only a twenty degree kick up now. Pretty cool to have that lasting of an impact on RC racing. Way to go !!!

The terminator was and is still the most versital dirt car out their today. It runs on slick, tacky, dry, rough, tracks. The ability to run on rough tracks was the biggest thing I liked about the terminator. Some of the tracks I use to race on were not very smooth and the cars front end never had an issue with digging in on burms and rough surfaces like other oval cars.

Rob, did you run it at the 1990 ROAR Nats?

I have ne of those chassis plates somewhere that was never used........and some Andy's arms too.

I am thinking of putting the aluminum arms back on and the original shock mount to lay the shocks down so I can race the 2wd latemodel class, I made the buggy shock tower fit so I could stand the shocks up and run the car as a sprint last season. It actually was a pretty good sprint, lucky for me I have a few sets of Andy's arms. Might be willing to sell this car or trade it if anyone wants to go retro. Check out my other thread to see it in sprint car form.

Thanks, Chad

where are the pics of this car? I would like to see them. I have an old car that I thought was an RC10 of some sort but by the descriptions here I may actually have one of these terminators? Not sure though. I bought the car off a guy at a track called Vacaro's or something like 12-15 years ago or something.
