Mini crowd, putting a feeler out there for a modified slider. Open to questions and comments. I have made a modified slider that I am currently testing and want to know if there is an interest for this. The car is completely CNC'd machined. It uses the front rear clip from the slider. Let me know what you think of it so far.

wheel base is the same as the slider. Front and rear clips used off of the slider or mini T. 2mm carbon fiber chassis plate and shock tower. 3/16 nylon roll cage. I used as much as I could from the body kit which includes tail tank, front nose and complete wings. I also have nylon arms going on it. The modified looks longer, but it is the same length as the slider. This car is lighter then the original even thou it looks bulky. I have designed the modified so one can take any mini-T based car and simply bolt on the front and rear clips and new shock tower. Tonight I will post some pics with the slider tonight for comparison.

I saw this chassis Saturday and it look's great. All of Mike's work is Top Notch. He has been making the Nylon arm's for the Slider for some time and they are much more durable than stock and retaining the same dimensions for a bolt in fit.Dangerous Dave :D davetech racing

depending on price this could be pretty cool for people who already have a mini-t and want to turn it into a mini sprint,

Which is why my local track made the rules for a box-stock class.
Mike,
Looks like a nice car. It looks like a good way to convert an old Mini-T into a mini sprint. So, what's the price going to be?

Yes this would be a mod class. We have already have people come out to test and tune thier mod slider. After the first of the year we might brake off into two classes.
We'll have to talk things over with Roy first.

first it looks cool but what the stock slider needs to improve on is the slop in the car...
now besides looking different what changes in geometry have you made .. ? does the car perform better then a mod based stock slider ?
if i already own a slider how would i benefit from by buying this ?
thanks Geo

Twisted,Until I get enough people competing with them and getting an unbiasised opinion on some of the questions then more can be answered. I can tell you that my cage is a hundred times stronger then any stock slider. To answer your front end slop question I have machined my nylon arms to fit the C hubs and suspension mounts to a closer tolerence and many of the after market companys like gpm, and trinity sell a mini carbon fiber cross brace for a couple bucks. I think the gpm has brass inserts in the ends on theres. I designed the car to handle the higher speeds of modified motors and the front end impacts it might encounter. As you can see from the pics the entire front end is protected by the roll cage and bumper. This design has been proven in my 1/8 scale sprint cars that I build. The geomerty has changed a little in the front but it currently works well so I do not want to fix what's not broken.Price is $150.00 which includes complete roll cage minus rear push bar, 2 mm carbon fiber chasis plate, shock tower, Nylon arms, complete body, all screws and washer and battery strap.I'll have more pictures tomorrow. If you could, hook me up with a roller minus the wheels (front clip, rear clip, chassis, push bar etc) I'll give you 200$ or some where in that range. I really like this car and I want one but I don't wanna buy an rtr slider I kinda want a roller without having to order from a bunch of different people.
Just pm on something if you plan on producing these.

The car looks really nice, but from the business standpoint you have to look at your target customer. This was intended to be a "cheap" class. Even though you have a high quality kit to convert a mini T, one can do that now with slider parts for $50 or less. You have apparrently done your homework on the suspension components making them more durable for the modified racer. However the transmission is still the same. I believe your suspension components will be in higher demand than the kit........even though it is a well done quality piece.
I say this based on cost alone. Add $150 to the cost of a base slider and now you are in the price range of some 1/10 and maybe some 1/8 RTR Nitro and Electric Cars.

the great thing about the slider is you can get into it for cheap but as racers we always modify things in the long run, the slider will be no exception.just because the car is cheap and is an easy class to get into does not mean that hard core racers wont want one.
im glad to see more parts for the car. it only helps the cars popularity grow and it already has a huge after market support thanks to the mini t.

Exactly, For instance I have bought an 18t rtr when they first came out like two years ago. I have spent close to 1000$ on it Brushless,Bodies,Lipo,Spektrum,Carbon oval chassis,Shocks,Drivtrain,Suspension. The only thing left that is stock is the gear cover. That car was originally bone stock and now it's all one off. I race with other 18th scale oval racers who put serious dollars in there cars. Just becuase the base price is cheap dosent mean that it has to be treated as a toy.

It's the nature of this hobby.Nothing stay's stock.Part of the fun is building, tinkering, reinforcing ,making the car's stronger, handle better and be quicker.Racing a Slider in stock form is an inexpensive way to get into the hobby but there is alway's some racer's who will want more.Look at 90 % of the car's in the pit's on a given raceday and they are modified to some extent.Everyone likes to try different thing's to get an edge on the next guy.

I see both sides..........that is why our proposed rules for 2008 keeps it basically stock with some room for modifications for durability and adjustability.

mod is finr as long as you have enough cars to continue the stock class there cheap and alot of fun stock if your gonna run mod throw a ball diff in it brushless and foams but only if you can keep the stock class alive and well if it becomes expensive new comers will lose interest

You can give LAZERMIKE a P.M. I believe he produces and sell's all his products himself. He's a great guy and everything he makes is flawless. Ive been racing one of his Nylon caged 1/8 scale SprintCar's for over a year and a half and it has held up to all the abuse I could give it.( including 2 runaways ). I'm sure the 1/18 Sprint will hold up and preform just as well. Dangerous Dave :D davetech racing

If it's stronger than stock I would get one. But considering the class at our track is just in the infant stages I would be out of regulation for the stock class. Damn. But I just saw this thread today, so maybe in a few month or so when people start getting their BL systems.

Is the front end stronger then the stock one. We have found that the front clip if VERY fragile on the original slider. To the point I have put on the CF brace and I am going to put on the Alum. kick plate. Also does this one use a different front shock tower? And could you post closer pictures of the front end geometery.
racer99
December 14th, 2007, 9:51 AM
sunfish you stated that the front of the slider is fragile-the reason guys are saying the front end is fragile is because their hitting the wall or other cars-real sprinters and midgets are purpoely made fragile for weight and 10 other reasons we don't have to get into-we've run 12 cars in some of our stock slider class features and the guys drive them like there real cars-if you hit the wall-or-another car yea they'll break but try running the middle of the track instead of the wall-what makes me so smart is i can move the walls back as good as anybody-since i got tired of those little screws i started slowing down and as a result am going faster and for some reason i'm getting stronger parts from losi or maybe-just maybe i am not hitting as much--rich
LASERMIKE
December 14th, 2007, 12:16 PM
The front end is allot stronger. I made it so it sits inside the roll cage and the carbon fiber bottom plate extends way beyond the kick up plate to absorb any impact. I will get some pics up soon.

You said earlier that "one can take any mini-T based car and simply bolt on the front and rear clips and new shock tower". Well, my parts came in last nite from Losi Parts House, so i can convert my Mini-T Pro over. Since the Mini-T Pro has Mod stuff already, iam thinkin about selling the Losi stuff, and buyin your stuff!
Could i get a price on how much the chassis, front/rear shock tower is???
Does yours use the same body (Losi)???
Also does the stock Losi parts (Bulkhead braces, etc.) are used in the conversion???
