Is it safe to use a peak charger on the pack that comes with the car?
What is the best battery to use for these things?

Sure you can peak charge the stock battery. Best battery depends on whether you want to go Li-Po or not. I have had good results from $25 SMC 1400 non-matched packs. Great for the money. If money is not an issue, as it is with me, Thunder Power makes a 2100 MAh LI-Po that will really turn the little car on. $50 - $60. But in the long run that is probably the way to go.

the stock packs are lacking compared to say an ib1400 or a elite 1500.those packs are cheap and way better then stock.
i charge at 2 amps and discharge at 6amps.

George, you ever try the 1400 Integy ($20), or the Venom ($25) packs?
If you have to run 1100ma. packs to race in your area, the Associated ($25) packs work as good as anything.

Whiplash 1400's work well.
I was charging them anywhere from 2-3 amps :D

never ran the integy but the venom cells are junk.the associated cells are ok but nothing beats a good ib 1400 or elite 1500.
and redneck sells the whiplash 1400's for dirt cheap.

Are those packs in the 6 short AA inline pack, or what size is the pack, and how are you mounting it?

seems where we race if you dont have a new motor you just run in the back of the pack,we run box stock,im thinkin we need to do something about dif batteries and motors they are fun but runnin in the back gets old,i ran last up until the main, then finished second in the main.i put mor tension on the the springs

I have been running my Duratrax 1400s against two guys who were running IB 1400s and Fast 1500s. They have both gone to Duratrax as I consistently beat them. Now we are on the same lap speed and all running strong at the end of the main. Others were running Losi 1100s with slower speeds. More racers are running the Duratrax all the time.

Short of having matched batteries in a pack, for the most part any 1400s or 1500s should be pretty comparable - unless you get lucky and run across a really good or bad pack - but any larger capacity pack is of course going to have better power at the end of a run than just the junky stock 1000s.

The big thing is dont let the packs get too hot. I started setting mine in front of a fan, charging at no more than 2 amps. So far the AE 1100's i have are doing pretty well. I discharge with 2 double filiment tail light bulbs in conjunction with a MPH cutoff device.

Blowing a little air over a pack does little to affect the temperature at the core of the battery.

Which packs?
People have been matching 2/3A cells for years and years and years.

If you charge a battery with a fan on it and use a quality peak charger, the fan can result in false peaks. I use a temp monitor on my Ice if I have a pack that I don't trust. For most packs, I don't use the temp monitor and allow the packs and charger to do their thing. Packs are Duratrax 1400, charged at 2 amps, with peak detection. At peak the packs are usually around 100 to 120 degrees. Packs have lasted a long time so far.

You should try the Ib 1200's. had great luck with them. In fact the fastest laps turned on my local track have been with them, racing against Ib 1400's & duratrax packs. I think (and this only a theory) that 1200's are just a tick lighter than the 1400 & above. Small differnces in weight is huge in these small cars.

I'm using a Novak millinium charger, charging the 1100's at 2 amps thier taking at least anywhere from 1100mah up to 1400mah from what my charger display tells me. One would assume that thier not false peaking? :D

The higher capacity NiMH cells of today do not seem to like the higher charge rates of days gone by. Nowadays guys, at least the ones that want their packs to last for more than a few months, generally charge at a rate we call 1C -- or thus 1 Amp for every 1000mAh of the pack (so 1.6A for a 1600mAh pack, or 4.2A for a 4200mAh pack, etc.).

What do you mean by "cycle readin" ??
What batteries are you talking about? If you're talking about any of the larger sub-C cell packs you might want to take your questions out of the Mini-Forum. ;)

im talkin about the mini ... u guys dont cylie ur packs??? its how u know ur packs r good or bad....and i was talkin about bout sub c and mini.i was wanting to know ...how u guys get match packs and all matching numbers on battiers .. if u dont cylce ur pack and battiers... u dont know f there good or not ..i keep sayin packs a battiers ..cause every few months u should break down ur packs and cyle them... to see if ur cells r still good..or is it im old school..a cylcle readin is a clycle from charge and discharge mode and it gives u the run down on ur packs and battiers..how many amps do u discharge at???and how many amps does a motor draw???

Most guys that I know run their packs and that's about it.
If the packs have been sitting, since many guys run larger scales during the summer months, it's (of course) adviseable to cycle one's packs every few weeks.
And whether it be mini's or larger scales, few if any of us have individual cell cycling equipment to check their numbers. Matter of fact, I only know of one guy amoungst the hundreds of guys I race against that does.
Guys that want matched packs buy 'em. But especially so in the mini's few have found any particular advantage of spending double the money for a matched pack play out on the track.
Amp draw of a motor? Depends on the motor, and something any supposed battery man should be able to figure out with an ordinary amp meter and/or their own little motor test machine.
Not trying to sound rude, but your questions seem terribly vague and rambling.
