2007 WDRA Series Wraps Up at Newville & Bumps ‘N Jumps in October
For the second straight year, the WDRA Super Dirt Series will head south to conclude the season. This year racers will get 2 races in for their trip to south central PA, as the series will make its first ever appearance at Newville R/C Speedway on Saturday October 20th, and then head over to Bumps ‘N Jumps R/C Speedway on Sunday the 21st.
For the past several seasons, Newville R/C Speedway has been a hub for nitro dirt oval racing in Pennsylvania, consistently drawing huge fields each and every week. While electric racing is somewhat of a rarity at Newville, several of the PA Posse members have an abundance of electric experience and could certainly be factors in the final rundowns. The track is big and spacious with an advertised 230 ft. centerline, which should allow the WDRA Big Block Modified drivers to push their cars to the limit on every lap.
The travelers of the WDRA Super Dirt Series are already familiar with the great indoor facility offered at Bumps ‘N Jumps as the series concluded there last year with Phil Cooper sweeping the Big Block classes and Roger Hill capturing the Small Block win. The WDRA series regulars will be looking to put their names in the win column this year.
Point battles will conclude, and titles will be decided. Factoring in the drops, Matt Olmsted holds a slim 10 point lead in the modified division over Jeff Hotaling. Dylan Watier is in third, just 2 points ahead of Dan Gill, while Jason Blum rounds out the top 5.
In the Big Block stock class, Olmsted holds a 35 point edge over Dan Gill after figuring in the 3 drops. Gill is red hot off a sweep of the Short Track Smackdown double header, but will need some bad luck on Olmsted’s part to contend for the title. Dylan Watier, Jeff Hotaling and Jason Blum round out the top 5 here as well.
One word can describe the 2007 Small Block class: domination. Mike Jeffery has 5 wins and has not finished worse than second in 8 starts. While the championship has already been decided, second place is still up for grabs. Henry Ketch, Jr. currently holds the position, but TJ Holt is within striking distance, just 22 markers back, with 2 races to go. Dave Harris is currently 4th, with Joe Rodriguez in 5th.
It all kicks off at Newville R/C Speedway in Newville, PA on Saturday October 20th, with the grounds opening around 10:00. Practice starts at 3:00, with the first heat going off at 5:30. Entry fee will be $12. On Sunday the 21st at Bumps & Jumps in Etters, PA doors will open at 8:00 am, with racing at 12:30. Entry fee will be $12. A full compliment of nitro classes will be on the cards for both days as well. At Newville the nitro classes will be running for $100 to win!
