Let me see what I can find that will integrate with vBulletin, and we'll see if we can't get something set up in the next week. We'll try to get the once a week Chat Nights going again like we had when the site was first live. ;)

I have found a couple of different software packages that will integrate with vBulletin so far, but nothing that I'm really happy with yet. I'm actually torn on the idea of installing a chatroom at all, because it traditionally will reduce participation in the actual forums, which is far more important to DirtOval.com and myself. I don't want to hurt member interaction on the boards for the sake of a chat room, so I'm not 100% positive about installing one here yet.

I'll keep you posted on the status as I gather more information.

That IS the problem. If you help someone, you are only helping one person. If it is on the forum, you help everyone forever.

And yes, statistically speaking, it is widely known by forum administrators to lower post numbers if it is open 24 hours a day.

I agree.... with the combination of PM's and the board theres not much a chatroom will accompllish..... for those that use the SEARCH function old posts can be found invaluable.

Plus it keeps more eyes on the forum vendor sites. Good for everyone

on the other hand,it would also help those forum sponsors sell products faster and without filling up the server with pm's,which sometimes happens.1 thing about a chat,if they are not on the board to begin with, they cannot chat.so the number of people, constantly logged in would probably go up.people are still going to post questions to get a variety of answers from a spectrum of people.i just think a chat would make it easier to contact forum supporters with specific questions of your own or just to talk bs with a buddy of yours on the net across the country or even world.waiting for an answers to pm's sometimes takes a couple days to get.jmho sorry if im thinking wrong

True, but AOL, Yahoo, MSN and many others have Instant Messaging programs that are perfectly suited for BS and bench racing between friends. I have mine on all day and it works great for instant communications, and you can list your contacts into the forum User Information, and allow people to contact you that way, too.

PMs don't really flood the forums, or take up bandwidth, and forum advertisers and sponsors generally don't have time to spend on chat rooms, unfortunately. It's great in theory, but it doesn't work. Vendors are generally lucky to be able to return your e-mails in a timely manner. ;)

If we do set up a chat room on DirtOval.com, it will be open on a limited basis, a dew times during the week, so as to not dilute the forum traffic and participation, and give racers a chance to communicate in s live group setting.

I remember being told on numerous occasions that the forum was not a chatroom and shouldnt be used as such. I vote yes for a chatoom. :p:ha:

the only thing i see wrong with a timed chat is not everybody is in here at the same time but i would try it for 30 days and if you dont think its good for us to talk about lastnight race or other bs then close it down like i said im on nitroaddicts and the chat has helped me when i have something wrong with my buggie i dont have to wait on a pm just go into chat and somebody wil help and its time saven to IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME :trophy:

Here's another problem with a chatroom vs forums. You have to be witty and produce smart___ comments on the spot with chatrooms. In a forums, you can google or research the web to come up with some smart comment. Chatroom might destroy one's self esteem once their apparent lack of intellegence, smart___ism, etc is clearly displayed to all. :D

Oh, and yeah, I wouldn't be able to talk to you all anyways. When I usually do have free time to chat, it's with the wife. I'm on the other side of the world so I don't think any of you would want to stay up that late to talk to the likes of me.

I really could care less if we have a chatroom. However, I would like to see more activity in the forums. I REALLY have nothing to do in my downtime but turn to DO.com. And it's almost disappointing when there is no new topics to leave a smart___ comment in. The classified forums are about the most happening area of this site. Support a troop, POST SOME FRIGGIN' NEW TOPICS....:p

I wasn't considering talking to the wife as part of my downtime.:D You really have to keep military spouses happy when your deployed. They truly have the hardest job in the military. I'm just lucky I have a supportive and kickass wife! "Downtime" is when I'm sitting scratching my head or other body parts saying to myself "Ok, now what do I do?"
