Hey guys... I had a chance to run some laps on the oval last weekend with my offroad car since we got rained out. The track is really nice. Very smooth and tons of bite. The lanes are big enough for an 1/8 scale. I know there was some concern on other threads about this track not being ready or being too green to hold a race, but I wouldn't let that stop anyone from coming because it simply isn't the case at all. It's in great shape and will only get better. The dirt is a clay/sifted topsoil mix... basically river bed dirt. So it packs very hard and has a lot of grip.

It's been many years since I raced dirt oval. (last time was at the old Mars Raceway if anyone even remembers that place). I might just try to put together a gas truck for the Nitro Tour.

My question is, are regular offroad tires like Losi taper pins or Panther Switches allowed or would I have to buy those street tire things? I don't really want to make the investment if I'm never going to use the things again. Thanks for any help...

hope this helps-

taken directly from the tour rules for 2007

- General Rules: All races will be 4 minutes in length. All qualifiers will be ifmar starts with a maximum of 7 cars per heat. All mains will qualify 8 cars and will have 2 additional bump ups from the previous main, max 10 cars. Nitro races will be single file rolling starts. Turn marshals may not work on or repair cars.If you miss the start of the race do not enter the race late. Once a car has left the track due to damage or flameout the car cannot be returned to the race once the race has started. Any cars damaged and placed in the infield will remain there until that race is over. All drivers must turn marshal the race immediately following their race, if you are unable to marshal for whatever the reason you MUST have a registered driver take your place and let race director know about the change, this includes back to back runs. All cars will be teched after race.
- TIRES:All cars must use rubber tires only; no foam, silicone or silicone impregnated tires are allowed. Sprints, EDM, and Late models will only be permitted to run the 2.0 wheel. Tires can not be altered in anyway. No manufactured slicks will be permitted ie: HPI, Panther. Custom Works street type tires (or similar to) will be permitted. Trucks can use Duratrax or Stryker type tires.

Cool... thanks for the help. Judging by that, regular Taper Pin tires should be legal as long as they are not altered.

We had heard a rumor that they were banning taper pin tires for this race. Since this is the tire we use on the offroad track, everybody here already has them. Not sure if they'd be any better than the Strykers, but I'd prefer to just use what I already have.

Al,
I have talked to Doug in depth about the tire rule and here is what are rules state. This was in addition (amendment) to the above rules posted by Robert.

Wheels and Tires:

Sprint, EDM, and Late Model:

You may use either a 2.0 or2.2 buggy wheel with street treaded style tires only No production slicks!

Truck:

Must be truck tires on truck wheels (no Buggy wheels permitted)

Street treaded tires only No production slicks!

Truck Class Amendments:

No home made body’s no altering of roof height on production body’s

All trucks must use long truck arms: example is a RC10 Gt arm (arms do not have to be “production arms” as long as they are production length.

So to follow up with the question at hand Pink Tapers would not be legal.

Sorry if this is a problem but if you need a set of tires let someone know Maybe a oval regular could help you out with a set. I know I would offer up a set if I run trucks.

Thanks
Jeff Cisney

Jeff -

thanks for the explanation. I didn't actually have a chance to talk to Doug regarding any of the rules, I had only heard that bit of info from another racer. I figured that I'd ask here to get the clarification from the horse's mouth.

I planned on using a Mugen truck that use an oddball hex wheel, so I doubt anyone has tires that I can borrow. I'll just sit this one out. Hope everyone has a good time!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Doug, everyone in the normal Off-Road Build Crew, and myself tried very hard to build a track worthy of being included in the Nitro Tour. I am very anxious to see everyones comments about the Event, after it is over, whether the comments are good or bad. THANKS!
