Hello everyone! It looks like the 1st round of the Tour at Bumps & Jumps was very competitive, and had a great turnout! I wanted to let everyone know that the Oval Track construction at McCullough's for Race #2 was delayed due to the cold weather of the first few weekends of April. The Off-Road Track was needed in the Indoor Facility a little longer than planned, but the Oval Track construction started today. The day finished with the track about 80% complete. Final grooming of the surface and installation of the retaining walls are all that remains to be done. Photos and final track specs. will be posted as soon is the track is complete. Check back to this post for announcemnts for the first dates, and times for practice sessions. Thanks everyone for your patience!

what days are on the weekend are you going to hold races or allow practice on the oval? A few of us are interested in making the trip to check everything out before the tour race.

First: I would like to also congratulate Jonny O, and Nick for winning their classes at Race #1 of the Tour! Second: The track is not yet entirely complete, and will be worked on tommorrow night. As soon as it is complete to drive on, official practice dates/times will be posted. Doug was tentatively thinking of all day practices the Sunday's of April 29th and May 6th before the Nitro Tour Race. Third: As for possible hotels to stay in, I'll check with Doug. There are hotels in the area, but there have been several new large developments in the area of the track I am unfamiliar with that may include newer hotels. Fourth: I know everyone is hesitant about the quality of the track surface, and I'm not sure what to tell you guy's. Doug McCullogh has been racing R/C Cars for over 20 years, and has owned/operated an Off-Road Track for close to 10 years. He has had several Losi and Associated Factory Team Off-Road Racers race at his indoor facility, and they have complimented him on his ability to build an Off-Road Track. Any of his local drivers that have placed in A-Mains racing in National Off-Road events at other tracks have felt that McCulloughs' Off-Road Layouts have equaled and sometimes surpassed the National Events Layouts. Every class of vehicle that races at Doug's indoor facility, including buggys, trucks, truggys, and eighth scales, have all at one time or another pulled a wheel stand or traction rolled. Doug McCullogh has never built a Dirt Oval, but I would put him along with his crew of track constructors up against anyone who has ever constructed an Off-Road Track for any of the IFMAR World Championships. I realize that this 2nd race is the farthest out of the way for most of the regular Nitro Tour Competitors, but PLEASE DO NOT use the question of whether the track surface is able to hold a National Event as the reason you do not attend!

CJ,
The phone number is 724-352-0116
it's at the lower left part of the front page.
BTW are you going out to run offroad the day before they have a good turnout for 1/8scale I believe.

Trust me, the fact that the track will be new and green is not going to deter me from coming, The fact that i enjoy racing in NC might, lol..
Also on the practice days you are planning on having are on sundays, why not a saturday, it is a long ride for just a practice, that way if someone wanted to spend the night and practice sunday, the option is there?

Nick,
Doug races offroad on Saturdays.
The outdoor offroad track is just at the bottom of the hill from the indoor track so their could be a freq conflict if your running on the oval when they are racing offroad.
Just my guess.
PS. I don't know what time the offroad racing is finished up but maybe you could call and find out that way if you wanted to practice saturday night and sunday.

Jeff, you know me, i will race anytime, anywhere, but i am thinking of the other racers, you know that some people are not happy with the 4 hr ride to begin with, so to make it 2 or 3 "sundays" in a row is asking alittle much for some racers, don't you agree? We are putting faith into this race and i am sure that he is putting faith in all of us to show up, not just have 20 or 30 racers, He is putting in a big effort and i would like to see it payoff on both sides,
Some guys would rather go on a saturday to practice, thats why i asked, Not all of us are local saturday night points racers, NO offense to anyone so do not get your panties in an uproar,

Thanx Jeff,I agree w/ nick about saturday practice. Many of us have DSM so that would not be a conflict. Also who wants to drive 4 hrs. race then drive another 4 hrs. Also do you have pit tables:confused:

Hello! Jeff Cisney has started a separate thread posting practice dates, and times. Other than the Saturday before the Tour Race, having practice on Saturday's would be difficult. The Indoor Facility has the shielding of the building, and is fairly far away from the Outdoor Facility, so I don't think there would be any radio conflicts. And as cj funk mentioned, just about everyone has some sort of DSM Radio now a days anyways. Doug is busy running the Saturday Off-Road Races Outdoors, and he just can't be two places at once. If everyone's REALLY against the Sunday Practices, I can talk with Doug about trying to figure something out. As for the hotel situations, I'm assuming most of the regulars from the Tour making the trek to McCullough's are going to be coming from the Central/Eastern part of PA. The main route would be the PA Turnpike, and at the exit for the track off of the Pike there are several hotels. Here is a list: Super 8 @ 412-828-8900, Days Inn @ 412-828-5400, Holiday Inn Express @ 412-828-9300, and a Comfort Inn @ 412-828-9400. The Indoor Track does have pit spaces with electric, and there are aprox. 60 spaces measuring 4ft wide by 3ft deep. Any new info will be posted ASAP! Thanks!

For those that are wanting to come out the Saturday before the race with their pit trailers, there is room for them. Depending on the total entries on Race Sunday, you may need to disconnect your tow vehicle to park it in the area of the outdoor track to make parking space available for others. I'm assuming tow vehicles will be disconnected anyways, and trailers left at the track when everyone heads back to the hotel Saturday night. I will talk to Doug, but I see no reason you would not be able to fly stuff from the track. The indoor track is located on a hillside of a fairly large valley, so there is plenty of open space to fly. There are some pesky power lines that run past the indoor track though, so it may be better to fly from the area of the outdoor track.

Any word or ideas of what kind of tires will hook up on the new oval? Foams, Rubber Treaded or Pin Spikes?
Thanks,

Since the rules call for rubber street tread type tires, I would hope the surface will be condusive to that. They have been to some of the other tracks on the tour, so I would say count on the street treads.

I was just wondering if you knew what the racing line was yet? So we could figure out gearing ahead of time. I had a blast at the first race. This next one should be great to. See you guys the 12th and 13th. Jim.

I would think there would be room for a 35 FOOT motor home, but I'll talk with Doug to make sure. I think the race line would be very similar to Bumps & Jumps, maybe slightly smaller. The area the track is in is 45 FT by 90 FT with approx. 15 FT lanes . My Dad, being a retired Math Teacher, calculated a track 50 FT X 90 FT with 15 FT lanes would have an estimated 190 FT race line. We will be rolling a measuring wheel around the track race line over the weekend for exact measurments.

I spoke to Doug about room for a 35 ft motorhome, and he said he would have room for it. His only request would be to see if you could get to the track as early as possible Saturday before the race to park in the back of the parking lot along the side area of the building. The outer retaining walls, and pit lane still need some finishing work for the track to be complete. We were going to wait until the track was complete to post some pics. There is an inside retaining wall, and outer straight-a-way retaining walls in place presently for anyone wanting to practice Sunday. Hope to see some Tour regulars out at the track tommorrow!
