WDRA Super Dirt Series to Kick Off At Radio Hill

The 2007 WDRA Super Dirt Series will kick off on Saturday March 24th at Radio Hill Raceway in Dundee, NY. The lightning fast track will host the WDRA season opener for the 3rd straight season, and has seen some great car counts and great racing during that time.

Radio Hill regular Bob Mott has to be the favorite going into the event whether he enters, stock, modified or both. His dominance of Radio Hill over the past several years has been well documented. 2006 series champion Matt Olmsted is coming off a big win at last month’s Trac Masters Open at RHR, and will be looking to reach victory lane again. Dylan Watier has been frequenting RHR this year and will be looking to take top Modified honors along with a host of other top drivers from throughout the northeast.

Over in the Big Block Stock ranks, defending WDRA champion Dan Gill will look to begin a title defense. 2006’s other top point men, Dale Hartzell, Jeff Hotaling & Jim Carr along with Mott and Watier will all surely be threats to win as well.

In the Small Block division, it looks like the field might be wide open as 2006 champion Sean Leonard has been running in the Big Block division in 2007. This should make EJ French one of the favorites. Mike Jeffery is expected to be a contender along with Jan Poyneer, Cliff Weeks and Joe Rodriguez.

Doors will open at 9:00am with the heats going off at noon. Radio Hill Raceway is located at 1219 Shannon Corners Rd. in Dundee, NY.

In other WDRA news, the raffle for the CDK car is still going on. Almost ½ of the tickets are sold, so they are going fast. Hopefully we can give this thing away at the second or third race. I appreciate everyone’s support so far!

I’ve updated the rules page here to reflect the 3 allowable drops for this year. If you can’t make it to one of the races, you can still get a good finish in the points!

Jeff, I would come up and run a sprinter. Are you thinking stock/19t or open?
What do you think Wally?

The only NY track I've been to is FingerLakes. What is the driveline at Radio Hill? What's the largest and smallest track on the tour?

redneck indoor isnt smaller?

I think that Redneck indoor is probably the smallest, but Little O is close. Pine Bowl is pretty small too.

To answer Anson's question, Radio Hill is about a 125' runline, where Fingerlakes is probably 190-200. I think Little O is about 110', and I guess Joe's is a little bigger. If I had to guess on Pine Bowl, I'd say 130ish.

Wally,
Do you think there would be enough interest in sprints to run them?

Honestly, I wouldn't go all the way there w/ out an EDM. Sprints are not really popular in NY. At the last big race at RHR (last month) there weren't any sprints. I would not expect more than 4 or 5, if any.

I am planning on putting together an EDM to run all the PA races, I do know that for the PA races you could easily get at least 2 mains worth of sprinters. If you offered sprinters up for the PA races I know the gang would do 19t. Most of us who run at bumps run stock, but I know of at least 6 or 7 that would probably go for it, if not more.

i will also be heading to NY for a couple of the races, like Redneck, and Finger Lakes. So I will post here ahead of time to see if I should bring my sprinter up ther w/ me

Redneck RC's track in the dungeon is 93.5ft run line, the outdoor track in Oswego is 240+

We also have 6-10 sprint cars weekly.

The Pine Bowl is just a tick under 120 feet, unless you run the Slammin Sammy Late Model Groove up against the cushion, then the 130 foot is right on Wally. LOL

The new track at Competition Hobbies is going to split the differnece between the old Short-Track and Long-Track to make just one tack again. That power pole in the old back stretch which used to cause the outside wall to kick in 2-3" will not be in play, as that is the start of the 3rd turn arc. The tack will wind up being a lot like Fonda Speedway, as turns 1&2 are 8 foot radius while turns 3 & 4 will be 9' 8" radius, with an overall run line estimated to be 135 feet

Here is some info that might help you out:

Radio Hill Raceway: http://radiohill.freeservers.com/pages/homepage.html
This is an old site that I think Rupert put together several years ago. It has not been updated for a long time, but it is good for a picture of the track and some directions.

Redneck R/C: http://www.redneckrc.com/

Bumps & Jumps: http://www.bumpsandjumpsrc.com/

Liberty Valley: http://www.libertyvalleyspeedway.com/

Newville: http://www.newvillercspeedway.com/

Competition Hobbies: http://cdrcracers.com/php2/index.php
There is also some info on Pine Bowl here.

Little O: http://www.wnyrcinfo.com/site/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=48
I believe the other Little O website was taken down some time ago. There is also a thread on Joe's here.

To my knowledge there are no websites for Chico's or Fingerlakes.

The race is THIS SATURDAY! Hope to see everyone there!

There is a chance that we could draw for the CDK car at Radio Hill. I only have about 80 tickets left. If they are all gone by the end of the day on Saturday, someone will go home with a new car thanks to CDK, Trac Masters R/C Tires & JRC!

If you were planning on buying a ticket, but can't make it on Saturday, get one now before they're gone!

Just to give everyone fair warning, there will be a "tool" for measuring bodies, and rules will be enforced. Lexan scissors will be available, for those of us who like to cut it close.

Body rules are posted elsewhere here, and I'll have a copy with me. Basic body dimensions are as follows:

Max 8" body width
Total Max car length is 22" (measured from the front bumper or nose piece)
Max height from the ground is 7-3/4".
