ok i have no clue how or why i still have this.. i found it a month or so ago in the garage loft... this is the first EDM i ever had... its a Parma AMC Spirit modified.. i guess that tells you how old it is.. lol... its alteast 20 years old...still on the vintage chassis...with the CRP rear hoop bumper.. look at this size of those quarter panels compared to cars now!.... the second pic(1986) is when this body was new! before the rc10s took over... was on a hornet! straight axle rear...the hornet was all plastic but it was fast and only cost 78$ for a roller with a manual speed control...and yes a stick controller! pistol radios were for pro rich boys! lol ......pic at Raceplace, Quakertown,Pa

I need to get my hands on an old gold pan RC10 and get on this restore trip...Really my first DO car was a RC10 gold pan with the stock tranny...no stealth...Am I correct to believe it was a original or Champ...didn't the RC10's go like this
Original-gold pan w/6 gear stock tranny
Champ-gold pan w/stealth
Worlds-black pan
Team-graphite
then so on???

the first rc10 had the gold pan and shocks... and came with a wiper arm resistor speed control... you can still find them on ebay...i have a few but all are hacked up... thats what racers did was drill and cut those tubs into swiss cheese...

with any luck in a couple of months i will be posting an original rc10 w/ shocks minus the wiper sc (trashed a long time ago) it is a complete roller w/ original tranny and everything. will also include the esc that was in it (old red tekin that would take unlimited cells) and an 8 cell sanyo scr pack. (sorry Doug, but it is a sub-c pack, the short cells) plus the ol gold tub hasn't been swiss cheesed.
so start thinking, and planning, you will only have to wait until March. LOL!

i still have futaba speed controls... they were great just dont add to much voltage... then i had a Victor speed control... they sucked for service!smashed it with a hammer and sent it back to them....... i have a few old 6 gear trannys.. i have old thorp 48 pitch gear conversions... and a newer RPM stealth conversion... i have some old "VALVE-0-matic"shock pistons to.... a 2 piece shock piston...open on the up stroke and closes on the down stroke...

I think there was two versions of the Gold Pan cars...My dad was racing one with a Stealth...then when I wanted to move up to DO (was racing Blackfoots), he got me a Gold Pan RC10 with the stock 6 gear tranny....I was just looking on EBAY...I think I just found me a new calling! Restoring some of my old rides. As far as the SWISS CHEESE chassis...yes, I had one car that had some many holes in it, I'm surprised it didn't have crazy flex. Then another, I cut the slotted the left side then bent it flat to get my batteries offset to the left side. Those were the cars. Seeing plenty of them on Ebay, I wouldn't mind picking up a few and building them in different styles we did back then.

well they still made the gold tub when the stealh came out... infact the early kits came with a drill plate to mount the stealth tranny in a old chassis..then they made a black tub just before the graphite chassis rc10 stealth came out

for some reason i remember the champ edition w/ the stealth that had a black chassis as well, the reason is I raced w/ a guy who made his own tranny, cause he could and he was also playing w/ different gearing. I know mine is the 6 gear champ edition, first release (either 90 or 91) because they then released the same kit w/ the stealth, i think like 93????

ok..... had to look it up-
RC10 (1984)
RC10 Graphite (1989)- also called TQ10
RC10 Champ (1990) 6 gear
RC10 Champ (1992) Stealth
RC10 Team (1990)
RC10 Worlds
then the B2

the tq10 came out shortly before the 6 gear rc10 graphite. it was more or less an original gold tub with a graphite chassis. short front arms and all, distributed by horizon hobbies. then when associated came out with the rc10 graphite, it had the wide front end, so horizon then updated their kit to the longer arms also. but, everyone wanted the associated car, so the tq10 just died off.

Correct! The TQ10 was a completely different car than the graphite car, sold ONLY by Horizon. It pre-dated all of the Associated models that were anything different from the gold tub.

We ran ony the spirit body by parma in 1984 at Mod Stock Raceway in Rochester,NY and we had 2 classes of stock modifieds. Imported cars (Plastic) by Tamyia and Associated Gold Tub cars. all had to run the same body. The oldest living rc racer Dave Lawrence was the first driver to modify his body by adding a full interior and cutting out all the windows. This was the start of hand made bodies is this area. Spring of 1985 all drivers were hand cutting their own bodies and very little was offered by the manufactures. Mod Stock started therir track in the fall of 1982 and most or all cars were 1/12 using mud bus bodies with 1/10 wheels and tires. These cars worked well untill the RC-10 came out and everything else is history.Long live the good old days.

http://www.heartlandrc.com/photopost/data/500/medium/RC_10_1.jpgI've done a full restoration of the RC 10 from mostly new parts - the fun part was matching the body from the box art on the original BOX..... I owe a BIG thanks to Clint Seitz of Clint's Creations for the body paint - it was REALLY tough for him to get those thin lines masked....
The car is built as we ran them in '86 here in the Kansas City area - it has a Futaba 132 servo, a Novak receiver and a Tekin speed control. The motor is an ORIGINAL motor that came in the box. This chassis has a couple of scratches on it - but nothing major and was the best that I could find at the time. If my memory serves me correctly, I bought it from Rob Cutman on Ebay!
The car is fully functional - I have run it just enough to know that it works and NOT put any marks on it! I also have a set of the chrome wheels mounted with new tires along with a set of the 'KC HiLights' that came with the car - just never had the heart to make holes in the body!
Here's the final result!

Nice, that was just like the first one I got started in dirtoval with. Except I was running lowbuck with a Futaba ESC. Speaking of ESC's, I found an old Tekin and Novak from my early days of racing but I believe they are shot. Is there anyone that knows where they can be rebuilt? Or should I search night and day looking for a working replacement?

Nope, they went out a long time ago. Andy Jacobsen is still working in the R/C buz, though. I believe he is still at Pegasus Hobbies.
Nice collection, Kipp. Three TQ10s, no less. Sweet!
You guys interested in the old school stuff should check out www.rc10talk.com. Pretty cool little group of guys over there WAY deep into the old school collecting of RC10s and vintage cars.
