anyone know where to get the arbor for cw wheels on a hudy style truer - i'm looking specifically for the one that indexes off the indentation on the front of the wheels. with this arbor you can true fronts and rears w/ the same arbor. only ones i seem to find now are from rc4less and there are seperate front and rear arbors.

I noticed that also on the rc4less site. I've got one of the ones your talking about. Why couldn't you get the front and use it on the rears just like the old arbor? :tire:

the front one they show now indexes off the 3/8 bearing hole not the larger indentation that is on all the wheels. the other one has a taper on it that fits snug into the indentation to center it, instead of just a 3/8 nub.

I got my arbor from Bruce—it works off the front side hole, and does both front & rear wheels.
Just looked on his site, and they are gone. I wonder why. Did you contact Bruce yet? He's pretty good with customer service. I'm sure he'd have an answer for you.

yeah, i did contact him, i got an email from him this am. he does still have the arbor i was looking for, but said if u didnt change the stud it would wobble, and alot of people that bought them complained so he removed them from the site. w/out having the arbor in front of me i didnt completely understand the problem, however he said if u chg to the short stud he would include w/ it that it works fine.

The threaded rod in the arbor isn't long enough or a good fit into the tapped side of the arbor. I found that threading the stud onto the knob first then Loctiting it on helped get the tire to run true on the arbor with few issues. It isn't a perfectly machined item, especially if you're used to Hudy/Integy part quality, but it works pretty well if you take your time putting everything together.

I have the RC4LESS arbor that works for both front and rear wheels and have never had any issue with it wobbling or cutting untrue. I use it on my Integy automatic truer which is pretty much a copy of the Hudy. I don't see how anybody else would have trouble. I clamped it on and haven't touched it since. Have done at least a dozen sets of tires with it so far. I like it better than fumbling with 2 different arbors like I have in the past with other types of truers.
It centers the wheel in the big opening on the face of the wheel. Not by the bearing holes.

Right, but the threaded rod in the main part of the arbor is threaded into a poorly tapped thread that allows the threaded rod to not stay in the center of the arbor. When you thread the outer clamping thumbscrew on to that threaded rod, the thumbscrew can sit out of center on the wheel and cause it to spin out of true. It's a badly machined part. You could find a more accurately tapped threaded hole in a high school shop class.
Not to mention that the threaded rod isn't long enough to allow for enough threads on each side when the wheel is bolted up in the arbor.
It's obviously something that one of our forum machinists could (should) produce and easliy sell. There is an obvious demand for a quality tool.
