EDM ROOF CLARIFICATION!

This info is to help clarify any rule questions concerning the roof and how the rules apply to flopper bodies. Floppers are still legal but may need to be altered to conform to the current rules. All that is required to make the most common flopper bodies legal is the following modification. Cut the side window/sail panel at the back edge of the window down to the top of the door. This in effect makes the sail panel and window to separate pieces from the top of the door line up. Bend the side windows in at top of door until the top of the side windows "touch" the roof. Shorten the front brace on both sides so that when attached to the side windows they are now against the edge of the roof for the entire length of the side window. No additional supports or braces are required when done properly and this will still allow the body to "flop" if that is what you desire. These rules were purposely written in a way that would not require current flopper bodies to be replaced. They only need to be slightly modified to still fit within the rules as they are written now.
Obviously we realize that some people may not be happy about this rule modification, but others will. There is no way to keep everyone happy in deciding what rules are required for these types of bodies but one thing needs to be remembered. Since the inception of this race there has been a rule that applies to this race and most all other races that reads as follows: All EDM bodies, sprint car bodies and cages must resemble real full scale cars running on dirt oval tracks. Obviously that rule is somewhat vague but there is no way to dispute the intention of the rule. We are racing r/c model cars; admit it or not the fact that these cars resemble full scale race cars to an extent is what has drawn all of us to be interested in this sport. Over the past year many people have complained to us in private about the need to eliminate the flopper body. The fact that a body flops is honestly not the main issue that we have with their design. The main issue is the fact that they look very much different from what we all know an edm looks like. I have been watching them race since I was 12 years old and I have never seen one with a T-Top. Certainly the "conspiracy theorists" will no doubt take to forums to criticize these changes and we fully expect that. It is the majority of the racers that you will not hear from that we are concerned about keeping interested in this great hobby/sport.
